| Posted by: Shadow Stalker | | i intend to start rereading it again this weekend (hopefully) that would make it my 5th time all the way through, and my 6th time to read about half of it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: peregr!n | | im on my 5th at the moment....but its taking me a looooooong time to get through the two towers! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | I have read it 5 times all the way through. I have done 7 with skipping the chapter with Tom. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | I skipped a lot of parts too. Everytime I read it I skipped some part of it. That's why even after 4 reads I still don't know everything about the book. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: MistyRainWater6 | | I am on my second time through, which is good because I was beginning to forget how good the books were...I'm going to have to get some more Tolkien books, or perhaps maybe I will try reading the Silmarillion, I keep hearing how hard it is to get through though.... | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Sandy_Murray | | I'm on my third time reading TTT and ROTK, but only my second time on FOTR. I read them first when I was about 10 or so, because my Mum forced them upon me, and then i read TTT and ROTK after watching FOTR in the cinema.
I am also hoping to move onto the Silmarillion after this, and I hope I can get through it too | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: peregr!n | | Its quite hard reading...so many naaaaaames! But, i have lost my copy...again...so its going to take me even longer to finish!
The only reason the Two Towers is taking me so long to read, is that i try to read a chapter a night...and then you get to a chapter like Treebeard...and that completely throws you off... | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Sandy_Murray | | I read my LOTR when I am in the bath every night. And the only time I put it down is when I've just finished a chapter, so it leads to very wrinkled fingers...
I have got through it really fast this time, I'll try and find the post where I said I'll start reading it again... I should be onto the Silmarillion quite soon | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | Misty, the story itself isn't hard to understand. It's the excessive amount of characters, with difficult names that throws you off. Keeping it all straight is what is hard. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: MistyRainWater6 | | Yea I've heard about all the names, thats what I am worried about, but I'm going to try it anyway, once I finished reading return of the king again thanks for your advice though | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: White Tiger | | How many times have I read the book?!
This may suprise you due to the amount of knowledge I have on the works of Tolkien but so far I have only read all three Lord of the rings books once,
the hobbit 3 times,
the silmarillion 1,
the Unfinished tale I am still on the first time,
Tales from the perilus realm first time still
and I only recently got the Lost tales volume one. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: White Tiger | | Well I have a selective memory as well, I remember what I need to and forget what I don't need. I mean who actually uses Algebra in their normal lives after they leave school? | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: White Tiger | | True...but that is work not a normal life.
Lets reiterate shall we, when do you walk up to a till in a supermarjet and they ask you for 2ab as a payment, never. They should teach you something important in school, there should be a leson "How to get rich" not all this algebra crap.
I agree with Billy Conolley who said "Why do I need to learn about algebra I don't intend on going to the place." (Obviously with more swaring in for Billy Conolley) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: MistyRainWater6 | | Hey everybody does it!!! But anyways back to reading the book. I've read FOTR and TTT twice. But only read ROTK once...I've never gotten around to it I guess | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Pippin | | I've only read the Hobbit one and a half times, the Fellowship once and the Two Towers once. I'm about halfway through the Return of the King, and I've never read the Silmarilian. I've read certain chapters many times, but I've never read the books as a whole more than once. I've got most of my knowledge from snippits I remember from the books or, mostly, from the internet. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Oliphaunt | | I have read it twice, but I somtimes just pick it up and read chapters that I like.

I feel sorry for you. Teachers have, in my opinion, one of the worst jobs in the world. Dealing with either annoying kids or obnocious teenagers.
good luck if you become a teacher, you would need it.
The problem I face is that because of my secondary school being utterly usless I did noy enjoy my year in College. So I am refusing to go back to do another course for a while and come September I'm looking for a job.
I may only go back to college to do a history course.
anyway back on subject now. I recently re-read the Silmarillion and the Hobbit | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Oliphaunt | | I'm off topic again, sorry! But White Tiger, I want to be a primary school teacher, probably infants, which while being very challenging, is also rewarding, because if kids love you it's really nice. It's either that or a forensic scientist.
I've decided that I'll read Lord of the Rings once a year, or I'll forget it. | | Reply To this Message

Even the youngest kids can be anoying. My friend three year old niece comes to mind. She runs around the house, throws things and screams instead of talks. I'm not only talking about her however because my other friend four year old brother does basically the same thing. However the most annoying thing I can think of is when one of them constantly asks 'Why' after every sentance you say.
You can't generalise it but thats the experiance I've had with kids.
Back on topic, I am planning on reading Lord of the Ring after I get through with 'After the king' | | Reply To this Message

My sister is twelve, and to annoy me she asks "why" after every sentence sometimes. But she's nothing compared to Rachel! "Becky, why is the sky there? "Becky, Why is the grass green?" "Becky, why am I here?". My favourite answer is "Because it feels like it." I feel sorry for you Tiger, if you think that most kids have tantrums and scream all the time. I don't know what kids you've met, but you need to meet some different ones.
I've never heard of After the King. What's it about?

After the King is not a book written by Tolkien, nor is it a Lord of the Rings book. It is a selection of short stories written by authors inspired by Tolkien. The main two are Terry Pratchet and Stephan Donaldson.
And Oliphaunt that isn't the only experiances I have had with kid. My second cousins on my fathers side of the family were fine when they were younger, and same with my cousin on my Mother side. I was not talking about them having tantrems but my friend niece screams anytime whether shes having a tantrem or not. I have tended to steer clear of them when I can.
The most annoying thing I can remember a kid doing was when I was up one of my friends house and his brother was about five. He took my shoes (because their mother has a thing about keep the house clean and noe shoes are allowed in the house) and buried them in the garden. I was looking for them for about an hour.
But that is just the way my life has gone. Current that friends brother is about 13 or 14 and current has a thing about swearing, and he still throws about 30 minute tantrems when he doesn't get his own way.
But I digress. | | Reply To this Message

I love Terry Pratchett. Is After the King good? | | Reply To this Message
