| BRITNEY DOES IT AGAIN..
No.1 girl after four years
BRITNEY SPEARS showed the world she is back on form as she rocketed to a UKNo.1 for the first time in four years with her catchy single,Toxic.
The track is the star's first chart--topper since Oops!... I Did It Again in May 2000.
It is also exactly five years since Britney first burst on to the music scene with Hit Me Baby One More Time in 1999. And the Louisiana belle blazed ahead of the week's new releases, selling 25,000 copies on Monday alone.
She outsold original favourite, Kylie, by two to one and beat her into No.6, thanks to the catchy tune written by Cathy Dennis.
Of course, the raunchy video, where she dresses as a sexy air hostess and dominatrix, also did the single's sales no harm.
Britney sold more than100,000copies of the single to beat nearest contender, DJ Casper and his gimmick song, ChaCha Slide Her In The Zone album has also moved up the charts from 18 to 15.
The saucy star now says she can't wait for her first Scottish performances in Glasgow next month.
She told the Razz:'I am absolutely thrilled to get to No.1. I can't wait to come to Scotland.'
Britney has added a second date to her gig at the SECC. She perform on April 29 and 30.
The star shocked America when she kicked off the tour clad in rubber last week.
AS she sang her new single, giant video screens beamed steamy romps out to the crowd. Later, she stripped to her underwear and writhed around with a troupe of male dancers in tight briefs.
Britney told fans: 'The past six months have been a roller-coaster ride. But I think that's made me who I am right now.'
The once Princess of Pop lost her crown in recent years, with her private life becoming more interesting than her music.
Her career started to nosedive after 2000 when she lost her girl-next door image. But she has managed to pull it back with her latest irresistible hit.
Scots songwriter, Jon McLaughlin, says Brit's success is wholly down to the song.
He said: 'It comes down to the fact that it's a great song. It is her best song for a long, long time.
'The clothes, video and so on all help, but it is the song that makes people go out and buy it. It is brilliantly written with the music picking up a good hook.
'The video has helped, as it has received so much coverage. The whole package has made the connection with the public.' | |
