| This was from my local paper - so I felt the urge to post it:
Pair of ‘American Idol’ finalists county residents
It would be big news if just one of the 32 young singers left in the running for the next "American Idol" were from Santa Cruz County.
But what do you call it if there’s two?
Yes, the odds are improbable, but Santa Cruz County is home to two of the finalists of the popular Fox show, which is setting ratings records.
Katie Webber, 22, of Santa Cruz and Lisa Leuschner, 21, of Aptos have each made the final 32. Both auditioned for the show in San Francisco last fall, among more than 70,000 who auditioned nationwide. Both made the cut of 117 who were flown to Hollywood.
Now, viewers can have a say in their fate. Beginning next week, the judging on "American Idol" will be done by the television audience in phone polling to take place right after the broadcast.
The final 32 are divided into four groups of eight performers each. On Tuesday, Katie Webber will perform, attempting to be one of two singers chosen from her group of eight. On Wednesday, the results of the phone-in polls will be made public.
Fox’s broadcasts of "American Idol" earlier this week attracted an enormous audience — 30.1 million viewers for last Tuesday’s broadcast. That makes it the highest rating non-Super Bowl-related show this season.
"American Idol," featuring Webber’s performance, will air 8 p.m. Tuesday on Fox. Leuschner’s performance will be broadcast later this month.
