Think it's time for a new question Pip! No one seems to know the answer to this one...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I agree, Misty. We can't let these threads die because of impossible questions. I think that if no one answers your question correctly within 48 hours you should ask another one.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Yea, well don't worry Pip will ask another question! I hate to see the Lord of the Rings forum die We need to get it active again!!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Somebody ask another question!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

ok I nominate Shadow! (Sorry Pip, if I get one right, you can take it for me! )

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Allright, what does Sauron's name literally mean?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Ummm...I have no idea the lord of the rings? just kidding I have no idea....and were not allowed to use any referances?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

no references, though just to let you know, i got this one from the Arda encyclopedia, but know cheating now!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

ok...just checking, and don't worry I won't cheat!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I'm not exactly sure, It isn't one of the thing I normally look into, but I suppose I could just guess...how about Deceiver (I really have no Idea)

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Oh oh oh oh oh!!!!!! I was looking at this yesterday! The Abhorred?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Oh! And the answer to my question was:

Pippin: Oh yes, its a quality establishment. I hear the staff are very good!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Pip almost had it. Sauron means "Lord of Abomination" not exactly a title i'd want to be stuck with...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

Couldn't he choose something better? No wonder he lost the war. Stupid Sauron.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Alright then, at least I learned something new Pip why don't you ask the next question

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Alrighty then!

Um...What are the words above the door in the Dimholt?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

oh lets see...something about the way being shut and the dead keeping the path...something disturbing like that...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

The words from the movie, its not that hard, i can hear Legolas saying them in my head!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Because you saw it like 10 times, Pip!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Because you saw it like 10 times, Pip!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

oooo let's see something like "The way is shut, it was made by those who are dead, and the dead keep it, the way is shut..." Is that it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Yep! Your go!!!!!

Following Pip's theme, what did Gimli say after Aragorn and Legolas entered the Door to the Paths of the Dead?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Well this is a thing unheard of! An elf will go underground, when a dwarf dare not! Oh, i'll never hear the end of it!

that it?

Reply To this Message

Affirmative

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

My go for a question....ummm.....
What is the first thing you hear Gandalf say as 'the white'?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I believe he says something in referance to Merry and Pippin, like "You are looking for two Hobbits" or something My memory is terible for that part.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Almost! Anyone want to have another guess?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I only want the first sentence

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sorry that all I can think of

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

thats ok! Anyone else?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

"You are tracking the footsteps of two young hobbits."

I know he says some other lines after this. But are those his first ones?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

yeah mahesh, i'm pretty sure thats it.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

I have most of the first two movies memorised. The third one would also be done if I watch it one or two more times.

Same is true for all of my other favorite movies.

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

OKay, ask a question, Adi!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Just to confirm....that was right! Well done Adi!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

Okay, time for me to ask something.

What are the only lines Gandalf says to Wormtongue in The Two Towers?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Be silent! Keep your forked tongue behind your teeth. I have not passed through fire and death to bandy crooked words with a witless worm.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sorry don't know that

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

Excellent. I think we share similar arts of being able to memorise whole movies Pip.

Ask a question.

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Woohoo!!!!!

What is the first word you hear Pippin say in the FOTR movie?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

Okay, done!!! (When he lights the firework.) I think Merry does all the talking when Pippin is trying to find the biggest one.

Am I right?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I'll give you that! It was without the 'Okay' but close enough!!! Your go Adi!!!!!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

I am glad I was so close.

Okay, my question is:

What does the tomb of Balin read?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

Excellent Pip. Your turn.

M.

Reply To this Message

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Yep! Your go!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

What is the name of Kind Brand of Dales son?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I don't have the faintest idea! I don't even know who that is!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I'll clue you in,

King Brand of Dale is the son of King Bain of Dale who in turn is the Son of King Bard of dale (more commonly known as Bard the Bowman).

King Brand fell with Dain Ironfoot at Erebors Gates in the Battle of Dale.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Ahhhhh. Still no clue about the answer, but that did give me insight into the question!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sorry I cant give you any more but if I tell you more it would give the answer away.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

I suppose we need Shadow Stalker or Neodammerung now.

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Yep!! Shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadoooooooooooow! Neeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooo!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Is it that Hard?!

I thought it was an easy question, but then I am a fanatic.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

I think only Shadow Stalker and Neo can match you there.

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Yep!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Do you want me to tell you or would you prefer to wait for someone to answer it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I dont mind, whatever you want to do.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Ok I'll answer my own question to get off of it.

The son of Brand of Dale was named after his Great-grandfather, Bard the Bowman. Brands son was King Bard II of Dale

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Do you want to ask another question?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I think I can think of one but the question is, could you answer it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I dont know, ask and i'll see if i can!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I'll do an easy one this time, asked an easy and hard way.

Hard first:

What was the name of Mariner who went to Valinor asking for aid against Morgoth?

Easy:

What is the name of the Elves most beloved Star?

(You should know this if you know the movie dialog well)

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I know the easy one! Earendil! And i would know the harder one but i have lost my copy of the Silmarillion and havnt finished it!!!!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Correct and just for general knowledge Earendil now wares a Silmaril upon his brow.

Your turn Pip.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Ok.....ok ok ok ok ok ok....ummmm....

Tom Bombadil gave Merry's ponies new names. There were 5 ponies, what were 2 of them renamed?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sorry, only Ponies I know the names of are Fatty Lumpkin and Bill and I know that Both were not 'given' to the hobbits. They had to pay for Bill and Fatty Lumpkin was Tom Bombadils

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

That's ok! The answer is in one of Toms little rhymes.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I know it now but the problem is I cant put it up, Thanks for the info Pip.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

I have no idea I should know...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Do you want me to post the answer???

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I know Bumpkin is one of them, but I don't remember the rest. They were names that described the ponies.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Yep, Bumpkin is right...i just need one more!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Swish-tail, Bumpkin
*looks in book* the others are: White-Socks, Sharp-ears, and Wise-knows

the poem is this:
Hey! now! Come hoy now! Whither do you wander?
Up, down, near or far, here, there or yonder?
Sharp-ears, Wise-nose, Swish-tail and Bumpkin,
White-socks my little lad, and old Fatty Lumpkin!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Yep! Your go!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

all right then...lets see now..
ah yes. why does Gandalf call the Balrog in Moria "Flame of Udun"?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

That is where the Balrogs were created by Morgoth.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

I thought balrogs were maia. Am I wrong?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Wernt they made in mockery of the Maiar?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

They were Maiar. So Morgoth didn't really "make" them. Bad choice of words. He corrupted them.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

and no, thats not the right answer. i'm almost 100% certain that the only one who could get this is White Tiger.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Udun is where Morgoth lived, isn't it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Udun is where Morgoth lived, isn't it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

no
Utumno is where Morgoth's first fortress was. His second one, and the one most mentioned in the Quenta Silmarillion, is Angband.
Udun is also the name of the basic right behind the Black Gate of Mordor

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I am not 100% certain on this shadow but I'll give it a shot.

Udun is what the area around the gates of Mordor (which I can't remember the name of) is found, unless I am mistaken. So it is quite probable that once Morgoth was captured by the Valar the Balrog of Moria served, in some way or other, Sauron.

Anyway the only Udun that I know of is the area around the Gates of Mordor so that is my only guess.

(p.s. Angband was in Thangorodrim wasn't it?)

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

thats not right either, excellent guess though. to be honest the answer is from the Arda encyclopedia, and even they say its based mostly on speculation, so Tiger your answer could be right.
what the encyclopedia says is that Udun, is the root of the word Utummno. The Balrogs, servants of Morgoth, lived in Utummno, so essentially what Gandalf called the Balrog was servant of Morgoth. if that doesn't make any sense, check the encyclopedia..its under balrogs i believe.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

and Thangorodrim was part of Angband. I think Tiger should ask the next question.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Go ahead, Tiger!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

What are the names of the three men who led the houses of the elf-friends into Beleriand?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Erm, not to interrupt, but isn't this supposed to be just LOTR trivia, not overall Tolkien?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

sorry only one I could think of at the time.

Right, scrap my last question and I'll ask a different one.

What is the Dwarven name for the Mine of Moria?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Khazad-dûm?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Correct. I thought that was an easy one and I am happy to be proved right, oh the answer to me question that I scrapped was, Beor, Marach, Haldad.

Your question pip

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

This question would be very hard if it wasn't coming from me, but as it is, it is pretty obvious!!
What is the first word of the first chapter of the Return of the King??

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

i dunno...i'll guess Pippin

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

Your go!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

hmmm...what does Minas Morgul mean?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Tower of dark...something I can't remember what Gul means in Elven

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Tower of Dark Sorcery.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Right Heather, your go!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

What item from the movies was a birthday gift to Elijah Wood?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

i believe it was The One Ring, or one of about 3 they made for the movies

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Nice try Shadow, but no. He didn't get the Ring for his birthday. He got that at the end of the shoot. I'm looking for the prop that he recieved for one of his birthdays.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Was it a LOTR book with everyone's signature?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sandy_Murray

Sting?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

No. I'll give you a hint. It was a Bag End prop.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Okay, the answer is a map of Middle Earth. Somebody else ask a question.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I can't remember the translation for "gil"

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Fortress of starlight?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

close enough. its citadel of the stars.
I'm impressed that most of you seem to know enough elven to be able to translate these. impressive! I think I'll have to start learning some Elven then.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I'll ask a question then,

which Durin ruled Moria when Durins Bane was found?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sandy_Murray

Durin V?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Right someone else go.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

In the movie what is the first thing said at the council of Elrond? Doesnt have to be prefect...just close

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Strangers from distant lands. Friends of old. You have been called here to answer the call of Mordor.

I can hear Hugo Weaving in my head saying it.

I've watched FOTR wayyyy too many times.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

And actually it isn't the call of Mordor, it's the threat of Mordor.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Yes, that's right heather Your turn

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Name two LOTR co-stars that have worked on the same movie other than LOTR.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean. they are both involved in the movie Troy I think (though come to think of it, Bean hasn't been mentioned in any of the trailers)

Reply To this Message

Posted by: twisted_wizard

Orlando Bloom and Elijah? I heard that Pirates of the Carribean 2 will feature both of tem.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Pirates of the Caribbean 2, with Elijah Wood? Now thats something that I havent heard...that would be interesting though

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Yes, Shadow is correct, Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom will both be in Troy (Bean has a much smaller part, that is why he is not mentioned. I haven't heard anything about Elijah Wood in POTC though. I'll have to check on that. Billy Boyd and Brad Dourif will be working on the next Child's Play movie.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Allright then

name the locations of 4 of the 7 Palantir

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Mordor, Isengard, Minas Tirith, and um....................

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sandy_Murray

Minas Ithil, Osgiliath, Orthanc...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

It is not known where the palantiri are because it was not said (I think). We know that Sauron, Saruman and Denethor had one each. so that is Ortanc, Barad-dur and Minas Tirith. We also know that Osgilliath had one of the master stones of the Palantiri. Amon Sul, supposedly, had a master stone.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

allright tiger! your go!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Who are the Statues at the Argonath suppose to be?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Now thats a question I would like to know the answer to! I have no idea though...My first thought was kings...Wild guess though

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

An easy one for once tiger! Elendil and Isildur

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Wel I thought I would do a general knowledge question for once Shadow. Your go.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sorry I dont know what got into me, my brain doesn't work that time of night.

It is still shadows go because it wouldn't be fair for me to give someone else a go and one of the answers shadow gave was right.

The answer is Isldur and Anarion because they landed in the south and made Gondor and Elendil landed in the north and made Arnor.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

seriously?! aww man...i could've sworn Aragorn or somebody had said it was Elendil and Isildur. oh well anyway

Why did Saruman desolate Isengard?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I'm not sure about this but was it to create his war machines. You know explosives and the ladders used to climb up Helms Deeps walls.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Yeah. Also it had to with Sauron's influence. Deep down Saruman was trying to rival Sauron. He failed utterly, but he gave it the old college try though.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Interesting...

I'll ask two questions this time you choose what one to answer, the answer will not be the same.

1. What is the name of the lutenant of the Nazgul?

2. What does Gandalf say when he reads the inscription on the doors to Moria?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

1. Gothmog. (The spelling might not be correct).

Am I right?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

You are correct. your go if you want to

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

I will ask a super-easy one:

Which ring does Gandalf wear?

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Narya isn't it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: adityamahesh

That is correct. Your go Tiger.

M.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sting- correct
Glamdring- correct
Narsil- no wrong.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

It is your go Shadow, whenever you're ready.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

Oh right

What is the name of the Sauron's Door (in elven) into Mount Doom?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

some one else go

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Ok then..Easy one

How and where did Saruman get killed?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

He was killed in hobbiton by wormtounge. Anyway since it is now officially my birthday I feeling generous, so if I am right someone else can go.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: MistyRainWater6

Course you are right Tiger...Hey and Happy Birthday!!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sandy_Murray

No kidding Tiger, it's my birthday today too! Have you noticed the bar up-top changing yet? 'INReview wishes you a Happy Birthday.'

Okay, I'll ask a question then, a nice easy one... What's are the two most common names for the building on Weather Hills?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Weathertop and Amon Sul.

I have notice the top changing actually, nice to know that they put the effort into that kind of thing isn't it?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sandy_Murray

Ah well, it has for me, perhaps you haven't entered your DOB in the 'My INReview' section.

Anyways, thats right, your turn.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Sorry must have come out wrong, yes the top has changed, I was saying that I had noticed it and that it was nice for the effort to be put in.

What is the elven name for Rivendell?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sandy_Murray

Nope, it's me being the idiot Tiger, I must've read it in a hurry. Sorry

Anyway, Rivendell is Imladris, I think.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Close enought it's Imaldris but there you go.
