Has anyone else noticed that Simon never tells the guys to loose weight? It is always the women. Thoughts?

Very true, leave it to Simon to pick on a U.S. Marine. Umm, I don't recall him ever telling Reuben to drop some pounds.

That's what really pisses me off. This girl, Lisa, was NOT fat. Sure, a little curvy, but hell.. Ruben is OBESE!!!

I think that since Randy was pretty fat and lost a lot of weight, they are going to be less strict about the whole weight thing. People shouldn’t be judged on their outside appearance.

Ps: when I first saw the title of this thread I thought you were talking about fat people who idle

How about the fact that there are some GREAT preformers and actors out there who are over weight? Why do they have to say that it shouldn't be allowed... that they want a model type person?

Look at Aretha Franklin, Cameron Manheim, John Candy, Meatloaf, Dom Deluise and Luciano Pavarotti, Chris Farley, Rosanne Barr, Opera, Dr Phil, (those last two were over weight), Missy Elliot, and the list can go on and on.

Just curvey and wearing clothes that make her look bigger than she is. She is a real talent.

I agree... it's the talent that should matter.
What about that HUGE guy from Hawaii that got put through?
They didn't say a thing to him about that.

You know, I can understand that you tell someone that the way society is today, people look at those who even look the slightest amount over weight in a negative way. That they look at people who show a fit and healthy body in a better, more postive way. While that's true... it's too bad that they keep pushing that. We need to have people focus more on a person than their outside image. If we never looked past the outside, many of us would be lonely.

It is Simon and his view on women. What about him telling Kim Locke last season that she was fat, Vanessa the same thing, but not a word to gigantic Frenchie.

You're right, Sherry. He was all over Kimberly Locke, who I think should have been number 2, next to Clay. She was AMAZING!!! I really hoped that SOME music label would have snatched her up... because she has some pipes.

Oh yeah... not one damn word to Frenchie. I just don't understand.

Well sometimes the voice makes up for the weight, as in Reubens case!

That's what I'm trying to say... weight should NOT be an issue. It should be about talent, and in this case, a voice.

LMAO! You wrote "Opera" instead of "Oprah". Haha! Sounds like something I would do!!

Damn, my mind is really out there!! I can't believe that I did that. Dang... and I'm a fan of Oprah. OOPS! My bad.

We had a big deal in Australian Idol when one of our judges told a female contestant she needed to shed some pounds. Most of our contestants were skinny stick people, but Paulini was a "chubby" girl, she had the most AMAZING voice and was the 2nd last girl standing at the end (kind of the last girl standing coz the actual last girl dropped out on her own for voice problems).

But her being told off for being fat was excellent for her career, she got so much sympathy and hat voting week she got the most votes to stay on the show in all polls and the least votes for being voted off the show.

Sometimes I wish that I could see the "ultimate" reality show.

That would be a show made up of clips of people in their homes, sitting on their couches in their underwear, stuffing their jowls with junk food and swilling beer, farting and belching; all the while giving out their ignorant. rude. hypocritical comments about the contestants they were watching on the tube.

Sorry about the rant. I feel much better now. I'm going to go eat some ice cream and watch Springer.

I watched an episode this season (3) where Rubin performed and he could barely breathe he was so exhausted. It was absolutely painful to watch the man sing and breathe at the same time and I almost expected him to have a heart attack on stage. I just can't fathom how a morbidly obese man could be named an "Idol"...I never watched any other season of Idol, and I'm not passing judgement because he's heavy...I could lose a few pounds myself, but it was absolutely excruciating watching the man perform. For the sake of his health and future, I hope he does something about his weight. He's a heart attack waiting to happen!!!

Ok, I ended that before I finished...it is indeed nice to see some healthy bodies on the show...it's nice to see that the criteria for being an idol isn't about being stick thin or drop dead beautiful. I personally wanted to kick Simon in the shin when he told Lisa Leuschner that she needed to lose weight...she's a healthy curvy girl and she has one heck of a beautiful voice....it's nice to see "real" sized people on the show...hell if I could sing without all the dogs in the county howling, I'd go on it...LOL
