maybe in the next books they might show that ron might do anything for money even though hes not like that but because he really hates being poor.
he said to harry in GOF that "it must be really nice to have so much money to never even notice when some disappears from your pocket".

CHAPTER 20 HAGRID'S TALE
*At the end of the quidditch match, the kids notice that Hagrid has returned. Ron, Harry, and Hermione get under the invisibility cloak and go to see him. They are shocked to see a very injured Hagrid.
*Hagrid and Madame Maxime had been off looking for giants, but the had to ditch the Ministry people tailing them.
* the found the giants, but Dumbledore had warned them to be careful of the death eaters trying to make contact with the giants as well. Macnair was one of the death eaters there.
*Their meetings with the Gurg (head giant) go well, but the Gurg is murdered and replaced by a giant who is friendly to the death eaters. Madame Maxime is able to save them when the giants try to attack her and Hagrid.
*Hagrid and Maxime tried to get the giants who did not want a new Gurg to come fight against Voldemort, but the new Gurg sent giants to the caves and killed off the oposition.
*Hagrid revealed that his mother had died years ago.
*The story is interrupted by Umbridge's arrival at the hut. She wants to know where Hagrid has been and what he has been doing.
*After Umbridge leaves, Hermione warns Hagrid about Umbridge's inspections and her hatred of non-humans.
End of Summary

I found this part to be a little boring. Not that it didn't need to be told, so that we knew where Hagrid went, and to give us a glimse at the giants, but it still bored me.

I think this chapter is basically background information for something that may happen in the next two books. Yeah it is kind of boring. I really love Hagrid, but he's starting to wear on me too.

Oh Grant, it has to be there for a reason. At least, it had better be there for a reason. I will post the next chapter either tonight or tomorrow. It is going to hit 100 here today, so it depends if I can stand the heat or not.

CHAPTER 21 THE EYE OF THE SNAKE
*Hagrid has his first class after his trip. He brings out thestrals and only Harry, Neville, and an unknown Slytherin boy can see them. Umbridge shows up and ruins the class. Her prejudice is obvious.
*Christmas is coming. The prefects are busy with their duties. Harry has surprise when he enters the Room of Requirement. Dobby has decorated the place with Christmas baubles of gold with Harry's face on them. He takes them down. At the end of the DA meeting Cho cries and talks to Harry about Cedric. She then kisses him.
*Ginny becomes the new seeker. Andrew Kirke and Jack Sloper are the new beaters.
*Harry tells Ron and Hermione about the kiss and Hermione explains girl's complex emotions to the boys.
*Hermione writes a letter to Krum and Ron is mad that she has contact with him.
*Harry falls asleep and has a dream about Cho. The dream is interrupted by a dream of a snake. Harry was the snake in the dream and the snake attacked attacked a sleeping man. Harry woke up screaming and in terrible pain. He was sick and in pain and told his dorm mates that Mr. Weasley had been attacked.
Neville got McGonagall and she listened to his story. They set off to see the Headmaster.

I think that the snake that Harry saw was Nagini. She is a giant snake, she is Voldie-poos, so why not use his beloved?

Did Voldemort realize his connection with Harry at this time or was it after Mr. Weasley was discovered that he figured it out?

I don't know if Voldie-poo knew right away... but, I think that he knew before Harry did.

Just a question....Do you think that maybe Neville, Seamus, and Dean may have gotten a memory charm from McGonagall so that they wouldn't blab to anybody about Harry's vision?

How was their absence explained? What did they do to keep Umbridge away from the kids until the news of Arthur's attack became public knowledge?

Hermione said that Umbridge was furious that they slipped out. McGonagall was sent to deal with her. I think she is probably a better witch that Umbridge and was able to deal with her.

do u think mcgonagall put a memory charm on her too.

I will post the next chapter later this week. The next 2 weeks will be very busy for me. My son is going to start kindergarten and I have a ton of stuff to do. I may not post as much during that time, but I will be back to my old self before long.

Things the clues book thinks we should look into for this chapter

1. Mad Eye Moody -there are a bunch of running bits about him, yet we do not see much of him.
2. The ornaments in the Room of Requirement. They were orbs with Harry's face on them. Who would have done that and why?THINK!
3. Look at who got Professor McGonagall when Harry got sick.

Are you going to be posting the next chapter soon? I have my clues book too, but it doesn't help me much. It just makes everything much more complicated.

CHAPTER 22 ST. MUNGO'S HOSPITAL FOR MAGICAL MALADIES AND INJURIES
*Harry , Ron, and Professor McGonagall go to see the Headmaster. Harry tells Dumbledore the tale of his vision and Dumbledore asks how he saw what he did. Dumbledore believes him, and sends two of the portraits to their other frames to sound the alarm.
*Dumbledore pulls out a strange instrument that uses puffs of smoke. They grow into a serpents head, then divide.
*Fawkes will contact Mrs. Weasley about Arthur's attack. Fawkes also sounds as a watcher for Umbridge.
*Phineas Nigellus is introduced as the portrait that pretends to sleep. He goes to tell Sirius the kids are coming to headquarters soon.
*Dumbldore makes a portkey, illegally, and sends the kids to Grimmauld Place. THe last second before they are transported, Harry feels like a snake as his scar burns and he wants to strike and attack Dumbledore.
*Sirius greets the Weasley kids and Harry at GP. Kreacher does not come whem Sirius called him.
*Moody and Tonks show up to take the kids to St. Mungo's to see Arthur. There is a werewolf who is in the ward with Arthur.
*Arthur was injured working for the order, he was in the Ministry. Mrs. Weasley says that "Dumbledore seems almost to have been waiting for Harry to see something like this..."
Moody lets it slip that Voldemort may be posessing Harry.

I love this chapter, and I think it is so important to the book, along with the next two chapters after it...

At the beginning of the chapter, when McGonagall took Harry and Ron to Dumbledore's office, they heard voices---Who was Dumbledore talking to and what about? The portraits? Did he already know what happened?

"Though it was now well past midnight, there were voices coming from inside the room, a positive babble of them. It sounded as though Dumbledore was entertaining at least a dozen people."

Did anyone else notice that Fred, George and Ginny reacted to Arthur's attack muh differently than Ron? This shows a lot about Ron's character.

I think the portraits go visit their other frames, then come back and discuss what they saw. They were all headmasters, so they are smart. I would think that they discuss things and give Dumbledore their ideas about what to do.

"And he and Sirius looked at each other every so often, intruders upon the family grief, waiting...waiting..."

This tells you a little about Harry's emotional state. Usually he feels so much like a part of the Weasley family, and now he feels like an outsider.

Where did Kreature go when Sirius said "OUT!" The possibilities frighten me.

I notices something about the different floors of St. Mungos. Did anyone else notice that the third floor is for Potion and Plant Poisonings--and one of the symptoms treated on that floor is uncontrollable giggling...reminds me of Ron in a later chapter.

What does everyone think about Dumbledore's silver instrument?

Harry felt like an outsider because he saw the attack and felt some responsibility because he "was the snake".

Kreacher was devious enough to take advantage of Sirius' order to get "out". Says a lot about the room for interpretation in the code of house elves.

I think pity for the house elves is Hermione's weakness. It could lead her into trouble.

Dumbledore was expecting something like that to happen to Harry? Isn't it odd that he expected Harry to have a vision or some connection, but did not warn Harry about it.

Very odd, and a little disturbing.

We have to wonder how Dumbledore always seems to know what is going on with Harry.

He should have been studying Occlumency much earlier.

The thing is that Dumbledore did not know Voldemort would return when he did. Harry may not have been a strong enough wizard earlier to be able to learn Occlumency. I do wonder about Snape. Lupin calls him a master Occlumens. He is accomplished enough to fool Voldemort, so how do we know that he is not fooling Dumbledore?

Dumbledore has the power to defend Harry, but if he does, then he puts Harry at a serious disadvantage. Harry has to be the one to fight Voldemort, and Dumbledore knows this. He is giving Harry the confidence to stand up and become the wizard he was destined to become.

The werewolf. Gilderoy Lockhart in one of his books claims to have cured a werewolf. Now we know that he erased the memories of people who did great feats, so it is possible that there was a wizard who cured a werewolf and Gilderoy destroyed the memory of the only person able to cure werewolves.

Didn't the Healer at St. Mungo's say the GL was getting some of his memory back?

I believe so, but we have to wonder if the people that he tampered with will get theirs back.

That is an interesting question. What if he gets most of his memory back, will he want to go around erasing memories again?

CHAPTER 23 CHRISTMAS ON THE CLOSED WARD
Harry returns from St Mungos convinced that he must be the weapon Voldemort is after. He believes that he is being posessed by the Dark Lord. Harry prepares to leave Grimmauld place, and Phineas Nigellus shows up in his picture frame and tells him that Dumbledore says to stay where he is. Harry avoids the others, then Hermione shows up and makes him talk. Ginny points out that she is the only one who knows what it feels like to be posessed, and Harry should have talked to her right away. Since Harry had no memory gaps, he was not posessed.

The gang spends Christmas at Grimmauld place. Ron buys Hermione perfume for a present. Hermione trys to give Kreacher a quilt for his den, but he is missing. Harry is concerned that when Sirius told Kreacher to "get out" that he left the house. Sirius says that he could not have done it, but Harry points out that Dobby had left his masters home without permission.

The kids go to see Mr. Weasley at St. Mungos on Christmas. They decide to go look for the tea room, since Mr. Weasley is in trouble with Mrs. Weasley for letting a healer try a muggle remedy on his wound. They get off on the wrong floor and find themselves face to face with Gilderoy Lockhart. He is out of the closed ward. The nurse puts him back, but the kids are shamed into visiting with him. He still has no memory of his deeds, but he has regained enough to like signing autographs again. Ginny, Hermione, and Ron are shocked to see Neville on the ward with his grandmother. They learn that his parents are there and that they were tortured into insanity by Voldemort's supporters. Alice, Nevilles mother, comes up to him and gives him a Droobles gum wrapper. He pockets it, but his gran said that he should throw it away as his mother had given him enough of them to paper his room. Harry admits to the others that he knew about Neville, but promised Dumbledore not to tell. Bellatrix Lestrange was the death eater responsible for the Longbottoms condition.

This chapter can tell us even though neville's parents dont remember anything thing they still remember neville and his grandmother.
Do u guys think the care in ST. Mungos is reviving them and that they are getting better.

the healer in the chapter mentions that they can see some improvement in their conditions. I don't know if the Longbottoms will ever be whole again, but I do believe that the gum wrappers are a clue Alice is trying to give Neville. She is trying to communicate with her son.

It could be that they will recover fully in book 6 or 7 and maybe they will be the one to kill bellatrix lestrange.

Could be..but i don't think so.I dont think that Bellatrix will die in the hands of any of the ootp members.Maybe by someone like harry himself or someone else...

The homework planners that Hermione gave the boys really bother me. Wasn't it Mr. Weasley who once said to never trust something that talks if you can't see where it keeps its brain. I can't remember the exact quote, but I think he said something like that to Ginny after everyone found out about Tom Riddle's Diary. I don't like those planners, and I really wish Harry would throw his in the fire.

I loved how Phineas Nigellus put Harry in his place. Cocky teenagers!

Ginny did a good job of putting him in his place too. Stupid boy!

Notice that Hermione doesn't spend too much time with her parents anymore. She hasn't spent Christmas with them for the 4th Christmas in a row, and she decided not to go skiing with them this year. She couldn't have spent much time with them over the summer either because it seems like she spent most of her time with the Weasleys. She seems to be pulling away from the muggle world.

I would bet that Harry does not use his planner very often. Also, I think Hermione is spending more time away from her parents for protection. She is Harry's close friend, so they don't want her to be kidnapped and used to lure Harry away.

i think dumbledore keeps hermoine safe cause he knows hermoine is the only who can keep them from doing stupid and crazy things that might get them into trouble and also beacuse shes his student

Being best friends with Harry puts Ron and Hermione at great risk.

hey why isnt anyone saying something. Its been a long time since we've discussed about anything.

Everyone has been very busy. Some with work, others with school, and I am in physical therapy, so that is why it is so quiet in this thread. I will post the next chapter late tomorrow.

CHAPTER 24 OCCLUMENCY
*Kreacher turns up in the attic. Harry is still suspicious of where he really was, but does not mention it to Sirius.
*Harry learns that Snape is to teach him Occlumency.
*Snape stores memories in Dumbledores pensieve before each lesson.
*Harry asks out Cho on a date.
*Harry realizes that the corridor he is dreaming about is the department of mysteries. He asks Snape about it, and Snape gets upset. He does not want Harry to say Voldemort's name.
*Harry has a connection that tells him that Voldemort is very happy. Hermione says it is because his defenses are low after Occlumency lessons.

I read this chapter a few days back, so let's see what I can remember.........

..... hm... well, one thing I noticed, is in this Chapter Snape is probably nicer to Harry than he has ever been... For one thing, he says Harry's first lesson wasn't as bad as he'd expected... Pretty darn friendly, by Snape's standards...

Yeah, he is giving Harry a little respect, although quite grudgingly.

well not only dumbledore but i think also, i mean well think about it snape used to be a death eater... and he's teaching harry occlumency, which could be dangerous for him. I mean harry is also seeing things going on inside snapes head and memories, as well as in the office and stuff. God only knows what voldmort could find out about snape through harry.

Yeah!Thats a great theory but if dumbledore thought what you are thinking,then why would he assign the job of teaching Harry occlumency to Snape??

He knows Snape would remove the memories that would give him away.

Chapter 25 The Beetle At Bay
*The Daily Prophet reports that 10 death eaters have escaped from Azkaban. The Ministry believes that the death eaters are being led by Sirius. The other article of interest in the paper is that Broderick Bode was killed by a plant on the closed ward.
*Hagrid is put on probation by Umbridge.
*Educational Decree #24 bans teachers from giving students any information not realted to the subject they teach.
*Neville is making progress in DA meetings, but Harry is not at Occlumency.
*Harry has his first date with Cho on Valentines day, but he had to leave to meet Hermione and it caused a fight with Cho.
*Hermione blackmails Rita Skeeter to tell Harry's story of Voldemorts return. It is published in the Quibbler.

I like this chapter, because harry goes on his first date, and last with cho. i stopped liking cho after this chapter she obviously dosnt understand harry just as much as harry dosnt understand her.

i have read all the posts in this thread, and just had to join in, you lot are very observational

Neville's inprovement is because of the escaped death eaters which inculdes Bellatrix Lestrange that turned his parents mad......i think we discussed about this already.....and he improves also because he wanted revenge...I really recall discussing this a long time ago..

All probations made by Umbridge are all because she hates them or because they're too close to Dumbledore......later in the chapters Mcgonagall's attacked and sent away and Hagrid fled and before that Trelawney was sacked..........(I think we discussed this also)

If she does (*cross my fingers and hope not*), he won't take her. The only reason she dates anyone is because she wants to be seen with someone popular. (Cedric- pride of the Hufflepuffs, good looks, Harry- the boy who lived, and Roger Davies- Ravenclaw's Quidditch Captain).

I think Davies asked her out and she rejected him. Then she wanted Harry, but ended up with Michael Corner (it is Michael, I'm not too sure about Corner, but that sounds right). Yes, that's the guy Ginny was dating, but apparently he acted weird about losing the quiddich cup and Ginny decided to comfort Cho instead. I believe that's the way it went.

I also remember Harry being surprised he didn't care that Cho was dating someone else. I don't know if it's because he was too upset about Sirius and the prophesy, or because he really just didn't care, but I have a feeling that ship sailed for him...


I think Cho's reaction to Harry and Hermione is pretty typical for someone her age, however so is Harry's reaction to Cho's reaction... at the end of the day, they're both just too young to handle the emotions that they may be feeling. I think that's what JKR was trying to show, at least.

Chapter 26 SEEN AND UNFORSEEN
*Gryffindors new quiddich team is not doing well.
*Harry is still dreaming of the DOM
*Harry's interview with Rita Skeeter is published in the Quibbler. Harry gets many owls about the article. Many believe his story now.
*Educational Decree is passed saying that any student found with the Quibbler will be expelled. It has the opposite effect, and the entire school reads the article.
*Seamus comes around and tells Harry that he believes him and he even sends a copy of the article to his mom.
*Harry witnesses Voldemort talking to the death eater Rookwood in a dream. He is telling Voldie that Avery messed up. Harry learns that Malfoy put Bode under the Imperius Curse. Harry awakens screaming when he sees Voldemorts eyes in a mirror.
*The trio discuss why Bode was killed. They decided it was because he tried to take the weapon in the Ministry. They also suspect that Malfoy put the Imperius curse on Sturgis Podmore as well.
*At Harry's Occlumency lesson, Harry hits Snape with the shield charm and he gets a glimpse into Snapes memories. He sees a crying boy in a corner while a man shouts at a cowereing woman. He also sees a girl laughing at a scrawny snape trying to mount a bucking broom. The lesson is interrupted.
*Umbridge has fired Professor Trelawney. She is rather tipsy and making a scene. Hogwarts is her home, and she does not want to leave. Dumbledore comes in and stops Umbridge from evicting Trelawney from the castle. He also appoints a new Divination teacher-Firenze the Centaur!

Points to Ponder

Did Voldemort become aware of the shared mind link with Harry when Harry screamed?

Why did Umbridge want Professor Trewalney out of the castle? Could it be that she knew that she could remove the prophecy?

If Snape is reporting on what the Death Eaters do, how is he doing this? Is he using legillimency on them or is he showing up when called?

if my memory serves me right didnt harry make noises or scream at other occations when he and voldemort were connected.

perhapes umbridge wanted her out because it would give voldemort another way for him to get the prophercy,

OR

she wanted her out because it would be a follower of dumbledore out of the castle.

snape would have to be a VERY good legillimency to be able to do it at such a long distance, but maybe he travels to that town near hogwarts (its been a while since i read the book I ) and apparate to where voldemort is. which brings me to two of chapter issues,

can u aparate to hogsmead i think it is, and if u can use portkeys to get into hogwarts why doesnt voldemort just make one to go into harrys room at night and kill him while he sleeps

I don't think Voldemort can take a portkey in unless he goes to Dumbledores office. there must be spells to protect the office, not to mention all the portraits would raise a ruckus.

and of course dumbledore is the only one voldemort is afraid of so he probly wouldnt risk it, but what about the port key in book 4, one was used to make cedric and harry out, maybe you can only make them to go out, unless your a all powerful headmaster

Harry and Cedric were on the grounds. Hogwarts a History says that you can not aparate inside the castle.

but hermione keeps saying you cant apparate inside hogwats not inside the building i think that may be including the grounds. and HP & CD were portkeyed in and out not apparating

The portkeys were all illegal. It makes you wonder if they is a way that the Ministry can know if you use an illegal port key.

probably the same way they can spot if underaged magic is detected i wonder if they have a special gadet that detects that sort of thing, i mean -like the things in dumbledores office

Probably. I would bet that Dumbledores office is the one place that the Ministry can not spy.

umbridge dosnt really suit being a teacher or know much about how to stop children from doing things does she, i mean tell a child not to do something will only encourage them to do it its like saying "dont think of a pink elephant"

CHAPTER 27 THE CENTAUR AND THE SNEAK
*Firenze takes over as the Divinations teacher. His classroom is on the ground floor, and it is some type of strange holodeck for lack of a better word. Firenze looks to the stars and says that wizardkind is in a calm between two wars, but war must break out soon again.

*Firenze sends a cryptic message to Hagrid using Harry to deliver the message.

*Dobby shows up at the DA meeting to warn Harry that Umbridge is coming.

*Harry is caught and is brought to Dumbledores office. Fudge, Umbridge, McGonagall, Dumbledore, some aurors, and Cho's friend Marietta are there. Marietta is the sneak. Hermione put a jinx on the letter the club signed. Marietta now has sneak across her forehead in pimples, purple ones.

*When the sheet that says Dumbledore's Army is brought into evidence, Dumbledore clears Harry of any wrong doing. Fudge tries to take Dumbledore in, but Dumbledore refuses to go. He also says that he could simply break out of Azkaban. McGonagall pushes Harry to the floor just as all hell breaks loose. Dumbledore has stunned/hexed everyone but McGonagall, and Harry. He explains that he will not go into hiding, but make trouble for Fudge. He tells Harry to study Occlumency and grabs his wrist. Harry felt a pain in his scar and the snakelike feeling again during the touch. Dumbledore left, and everyone woke up.

1. Can Dumbledore break out of Azkaban that easily? If so, is he an unregistered animagus?

2. Is a patronus an extension of your personality?

3. Where did Dumbledore go when he left?

4. What type of mirror did Umbridge have in her office?
