They totally set this up... |
| Posted by: Lawless | | Okay, so I'm listening to the radio, and our dj's have talked to a bunch of people over the past week that have "SUCKED" on the auditions. Some people were told "off camera" after they had been told no, that they wanted them to 'act' upset, etc... and that they should make a scene outside, on the camera.
Also, they aren't auditioning before they get to the judges. If you suck, they pick the song that you sound the worst doing, and tell you that you have to sing that song.
So... 'Reality TV' isn't as REAL as it should be, it seems!!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | I know... it took away from the show knowing that they do this.
But, you had to know that something was going on...
Oh well...
I think that the ones who really get upset and cry aren't faking it though. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | I don't think they are either. How can they not hear that they suck? They really need to watch the tape and see and hear that they are so off. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Okay... let me try this, and let me know if you understand:
Before they get to the judges for their audition, they have a little "pre-audition"
If the contestant SUCKS, these pre judges pick the song that they sounded worse on, and tell them that is the one they are to sing. | | Reply To this Message

KJ ... that confused me a little too ...
What confused me is:
this
they aren't auditioning before they get to the judges.
and this
Before they get to the judges for their audition, they have a little "pre-audition"
That seems like opposites but forgive me please ... I'm dizzy w/a sinus infection and not assimilating well today.
Do you mean
that there IS a pre-audition before they get to RSP, but if they are really bad the pre-auds tell them they have to sing their worst song for RS&P ?
Incidentally ... could those people the DJ's interviewed be sucking sour grapes ?

| Posted by: Lawless | | Sorry guys, I'm at work, and I'm swamped, and have people that keep coming to my desk for questions, etc... so, I'm not paying the best attention.
They all "pre audition" before ever reaching the judges, Simon, Randy and Paula.
The people who pre audition them have them sing more than one song... and if they aren't very good singers, they pick the song that was sung the worst, and send them off to the judges.
It's just all one big set up.
Does this make sense to you? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Yes, and that sucks! I want to see talent, not crappy singers. I want to know who the idol is, or at least remember their audition. | | Reply To this Message

Yes it does and that's what I thought you meant, but I as said I feel woozy/yucky ... but even with this sinus thing I still sing better through my nose than that Chick w/trainer.
Sorry to bother you when you're so busy KJ but you are right it does suck !

| Posted by: Lawless | | No, you're not bugging me. Heck, I was online while at work, when I should have been contrating on taking care of my account and their needs. But, I was dickering around online instead.
I came home early... I just felt like crap. I laid down, and now I'm awake, three hours later! I love a nap. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: maxwell55 | | That sucks! I suspected they did as much though! In one of the shows, they showed people in the arena and there were three lines, all of whom were singing at teh same time so I realized they mush pre-audition.
As for those who truly suck and truly don't know it (Are there any???), I feel bad because they then realize they "made it" to the next audition for everyone to laugh at them.
Oh Well! They should have know it coming in to it!
KJ~ I hope you feel better! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Thanks, Mindy... I do feel better now. Hope this headache is finally gone. Twenty four hours is enough to drive anyone insane.
Yes, that's what I'm talking about... they were in lines, singing to a panel of people sitting at tables. | | Reply To this Message

I feel bad for some of them too like that Huang She-Bangs boy, who really seemed sincere.
You'd think some of them might have asked someone ... like maybe a music teacher ... wouldn't you ?
As for the set-up ... the producers HAVE to know that some of the rejected are out there telling tales and slinging slop about them.
So they must not care ... or just figure publicity good or bad is still publicity. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | I hate knowing that they turn away good people, with great voices, and yet, they let 'crap' through to Hollywood! I know that it's their show... but I would so much rather see 100 GREAT singers, with real, raw talent, trying to compete, than have mediocre singers. It's just a waste of time.
So, OSUSooners, did you audition? | | Reply To this Message

I'm with you, KJ, but if they just showed us great singers, I guess it would be a Variety Show and not a Game Show. The contest/competition angle introduces audience participation and a bit of tension into the equation.
I'm sure that RPS knew who they would want to see in the Final 8, perhaps even the Final 4, before they ever started cutting down from the 117 in the Hollywood pool. I believe that they deliberately slipped some "cannon fodder" into the Final 32 so that the audience won't have any trouble voting them out as we go along.
We're going to see 4 groups of 8 performers each week and you can bet that RPS didn't put all the best performers into the same group on any given week. They'll be spread out so that the audience won't have any trouble separating the wheat from the chaff in each group of 8.
That way, when we get down near the end, only the ones that RPS wanted right from the start will be left and the audience will think that it was their (the audience's) choice that made it happen that way. A "democratic delusion", sorta like politics.
Or, am I way off base here?

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But the same thing happens in every type of competition.
The process of "pre-auditioning" and then auditioning for American Idol is not unlike the way that magazines handle article submissions from unknown writers.
The fact that thousands of people with absolutely no talent and who have absolutely no idea of the magazine's format, target audience, editorial policies, etc still type up some crap and send it in over and over again is frustrating and depressing. It is a huge waste of time and manpower and money just to read and then send rejection notices back to those jerks.
So, I have no sympathy for the thousands of hopeless rejects that got turned away from the AI auditions. Didn't they watch any of the shows last season, or the season before? Didn't they even try to figure out what it would take to get into the Final 32?
If they did that and yet still presented themselves, with neither talent nor personality, to the judges for ridicule and derision, they deserved just what they got!
