Not one nomination for LotR for Lead OR supporting actor/actress.

I don't think it bodes well for LOTR that they did not get a single acting nomination. There were superb performances in Return of the King.

You are worrying about LOTR? I am more than pissed about 'The Matrix'. No nominations AT ALL, not even for the special effects category. They were much better than 'Master and Commander: The far side of the World' and 'Pirates of the Carribean'. Its a conspiracy, I tell you.

Nope, and I won't. I absolutely HATE Russell Crowe. I have heard that I've missed many a good movie, but I can't support him and his career. That man makes my skin crawl.

He's not my FAVORITE actor but he was AWESOME in Gladiator and LA Confidential.

Master and Lameander just looks like puke. It looks like a nap at the movie theatre. It seems like epic movies are just secured a nomination. Big Fish was WAYYY better than master and snoooooore...zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz

Why do I detest Russell Crowe? Because he's a man in his 40's who's tried dating girls, in Hollywood (actresses) under the age of 18. Because he was a HUGE part in breaking up Meg Ryan's marriage. I just don't like the man... he gross, and I just don't like looking at him.

cate blanchett (lord of the rings, the missing, veronica guerin) and ian mckellen (x2, lord of the rings) are the best actors on the planet! If return of the king doesnt win the best picture and best director oscars i will never watch the oscars again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Return of the Kings was a great movie, but was there a single actor/actress that really stood out during the during the duration of the film?
IMHO, there were just too many characters that were critical to the film that it was impossible to focus on any one of them that would have earned them a nomination.

I actually saw Master and Commander, looked pretty good to me, but the movie almost put me to sleep, there was hardly any action in the movie besides the beginning and the end of the movie...I dont see what was so great about it..Then again everyone has their opinions...

You are all just a bunch of Lord of the Rings fanatincs who don't appreciate good movies and good performances...
Of course The Matrix didnt get any nomination... it sucked...

I am a LOTR fan, but I DO appreciate good movies and good acting. And I still don't think the nominations are very acurate this year, especially the best actor/actress/supporting actor/supporting actress...who decides who gets nominated anyway...a bunch of stuck up movie "experts" in suits behind desks at the Academy?

We watched Pirates of the Carabbean last night, again... and I was really watching Johnny Depps preformance. I just don't think that he's in the best actor catagory, in my opinion. Sure, he did a good job, but there were movies with an actor that belongs up for nomination.

Anyway... Sean Penn is going to win that award. If you haven't seen Mystic River... go see it. That movie is incredible... and the cast were amazing. Sean gave one of the best preformances that I've ever seen.

It really pisses me off that KILL BILL was totally overlooked. It should have been nominated for its performances, direction, photography and alot more.
As well Big Fish was only nomitated for it's score? The directing in Big Fish was alot better than the directing in Lost In Translation (though LIT's directing was very good.)
Still I was happy to see Keisha Castle-Hughes from Whale Rider was nominated. She was fantastic.

JOHNNY! He's nominated!! First time EVER! yay. He's not gonna win, though. Not that he doesn't deserve it, I just know how these things work. All that matters is that he's nominated. We all know that who actually wins doesn't mean anything ;D Still, I would love to see his acceptance speech....oh well. There's still time in his career for him to play a paralyzed, ex-communist leader who's going crazy and has a daughter who's just come out of the closet. You know, one of those OSCAR-WORTHY roles! For a pirate-role to win, well, that's just completely against the RULES, isn't it? And for Johnny Depp to win, well, that's just out of the question! *NOT bitterness otward the Academy...hah*

Side Note If ROTK doesn't win best picture, I hope the Academy knows it's gonna have a LOT of angry fans to reckon with...it's been said before, but it's so true.

I think that Sean Penn should definitely win the oscar for best actor... although I wouldn't complain if Bill Murray gets it...

I don't think the nominations of this year weren't good, in fact, I think it was one of the best in years...

I did like the Lord of the Rings but I don't think it was the best of the year.. I would put Mystic River and Lost in Translation as priorities...

Did anyone see the Cooler? It was actually pretty decent. I don't usually like Alec Baldwin and he was great.
And, i actually like cold mountain too. Renee was good. JUDE (hot) was good.

I am a Lotr fanatic, but even I have to admit none of the actors or actresses stuck out. They were all awesome, but it's an ensemble cast. It's impossible to pick just one lead actor out of 12 awesome ones.

I agree...Matrix did suck...LOTR deserves most of it's nominations....i also cant believe that it didnt get any best actor/actress nominations

LOTR:ROTK was an awesome movie, all of them have been and i think its wrong that they all havn't won Best Picture or other awards, just because there are three of them. They should each have been judged and awarded on their own merits as they are all individual (and fantastic) movies!!!

LOTR:ROTK should have gotten some acting nominations for individuals, such as for Sean Astin but because there are so many of them it would be hard. They have been nominated for Best Ensemble Cast though havnt they???

i thought Russel Crowe was brilliant in A Beautiful Mind and Gladiator and he is so past trying to sleep with young actresses. He's a married man with a new son!! Although i do agree that he can be a bit of an arrogant prick!!

What a disgrace! I expected LOTR will really RULE the oscars! As for a King-- RULE! REIGN! ikssssss no acting awards? The movie's full of 'em! Even golum deserves it! Matrix does'nt have any? What the heck? And Kill Bill!!! What happened to the oscar people??? Cate Blanchette was'nt even nominated? I think Golden Globe's did well then...

Sean Penn deserves to win. He was absolutely fantastic in Mystic River!!!!
Although I think LOTR should have gotten some acting nomination Sean Penn was amazing this year, the others did a gerat job but he was perfect!!

I am myself quite surprised that neither The Matrix Reloaded, nor Revolutions, received a single nomination. For those of you who believed that The Matrix 'sucked', you must at least be intelligent enough to recognise that the special effects were quite fantastic. Regardless of the fact that you are not film fans, there is a lot of maturity in being able to give credit where credit is due. I believe that Reloaded certainly deserved a nomination for Best Special Effects.

I do not feel that Johnny Depp deserved a nomination for Pirates of the Carribean. I am a huge Johnny Depp fan, and I sincerely enjoyed POTC, however I do believe that Viggo Mortensen in Return of the King did an extremely good job of his role as Aragorn. He should have received a nomination.

Also, why didn't ROTK receive a nomination for Best Cinematography? I think that it was quite magnificent. I do believe that ROTK will dominate the Awards night, and will most likely clean up Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, among others. It certainly deserves to be honoured with a number of awards.

Both of the matrix movies did have great special effects, but there wasn't anything new in either of them... same tricks used in the first one...

The chances of LOTR winning best picture seem pretty high, however, I don't think it should win best adapted screenplay because of the book it was adapted from.. it would be impossible to make perfect adaptations of J.R.R. Tolken books... I think Mystic River should win best adapted screenplay...

Are you saying that the flying scenes, the multiple Smiths, the Burly Brawl, the Superbrawl, the attack on Zion, the resistance by APUs was not new to these two sequels? I think they were great and should have been nominated.

I think it should have been nominated for the best screenplay too, but I am sure people disagree with me.

I'm pissed off that Lord of the Rings got no nomination for best actor. Every single one in it was SUPERB! However:

- Master and Commander was not intended to be an action movie! It is a film about character development, about the clash (and union) of tradition and science. Personally, I loved the Crowe and Bettany performances.

- Matrix Revolutions fell short of my expectations. Not a tad as good as the first film in the trilogy.

Oh yeah... there was no one but Sean that deserved that award tonight. He was amazing.
And Charlize Theron... she deserved her Oscar too.

And LotR... clean sweep tonight! That was awesome. Didn't lose one category they were in.
