'Prisoner' reported to be less than 2-1/2 hours

If you were hoping for a cinematic version of epic proportions for this year's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, you may be out of luck. According to Canadian television website CTV, the movie may be the shortest of the series so far.

Harry Potter fans who want to see every detail from the books translated into the screen versions might be uneasy over the projected length of Prisoner of Azkaban: less than 2½ hours, the shortest of the series so far.

This time, Rowling's story lent itself to a tighter script than the first two movies, said director Alfonso Cuaron, whose previous movie was the racy hit Y Tu Mama Tambien.

Keep in mind that the running time of Prisoner of Azkaban hasn't been officially confirmed by Warner Bros yet.

I don't know. I think the previous two movies could have been better because during the adaptation process, alot of the better material was cut. I'm not bothered if this film is a bit shorter as long as the final edit includes the more important plot points and themes from the book. If it works, it'll show that it took Cuaron and his editors less time to do a better job than Chris Columbus.

I agree with Mike. I hope that he tells the story and does not skip any important facts.

Ok, now I've changed it to a quote from Pinky and the Brain (quality cartoon). Anyhoo, back to the topic in question, I disagree with what that article implies (that a film can not be epic if its running time is under 2 1/2 hours). Gladiator ran for less than that and its one of the most epic films in modern cinema (of course it doesn't hold a candle to The Lord of the Rings). (Wow, I used four sets of brackets in this post).

I liked the idea of having a 4 hour movie with intermission too bad eh?

I guess it'll work out okay though.

Grant that is Goblet of Fire that will be 4 hours with an intermission.

Just thought you guys might like to know that the internet movie database (www.imdb.com) has up on its POA page that the film's running time will be 135 minutes (2 1/4 hours). Let's hope they squeeze in all the necessary stuff without making it look like a squeeze.

Well, at least it will be out soon. I wish it was going to be 3 hours though.

IMDB.com says the run time is 136 minutes. Just over two hours.
