| Hello all,
I thought I would share an email I recieved recently from my mother. She is 57 years old and lives in Seattle, WA. She used to work for the FBI as an office person then eventually Boeing where she has worked for the last 20 years or so.
She is a sweet kind pretty and petite lady, the kind that everyone naturally likes instantly. Very charming, good listener, etcetera.
I emailed her a picture the other day that I found here in the forum. An explicit and gross one.
After sending her the picture I soon came to regret it by thinking it may be cruel and she would cry in shock or something like that.
I was wrong. The response I got was far from it.
I'd like to share the email here because from what I have read lately there seems to be a real lack of understanding of what Americans are thinking and feeling about this war.
Please bear in mind that the email itself isn't open for response from her because she doesn't even know I'm doing this and also because there is obviously much spur of the moment emotion (and anger) in it that was never intended to be seen from her angle beyond me. Keep that in mind when reading it.
A peek into what a middle class american is thinking and feeling:

Brian dear.
I realize you were sharing something that alarmed you, but think about it.....
Not one, again not one Iraqi, child or adult, is worth the life of an American--not you, not Danielle, not Isaac, not Monte, not Tanya, not Ken, not me, let alone our soldiers. More than 1500 bombs have been dropped, yet "we have a long way to go." Pretty weak stuff. Let's nuke them and get it over with. Not a ****ed one of them is worthy of the lost lives of POW soldiers who died unspeakable deaths.
Too bad we don't have a picture of the young mother holding her 2-month old baby, who must have been screaming in terror, as their plane flew into World Trade Tower 2. Too bad we don't have pictures of the pilots with slit throats, stewardesses with hands cut off. Too bad we don't have a picture of the hero on the Philadelphia flight who, the one who said, "Let's roll" as signal the fight was to begin to save the airplane. No pictures are available because these people were blown to bits. The Iraqi kids will survive, their injuries are not life threatening. As terrible as it is, the girl's loss of a leg does not end her life. Shame on Saddam! Our troops are doing everything in their power to protect citizens. The Iraqi military are purposely planted in well-populated areas for this very reason and to make the U.S. look bad. Please think for yourself!
Iraqi's have only their dictator to blame--and so does the rest of the world. Saddam had 17 resolution chances and our government gave him several months to comply with inspections or leave the country. It is he who does not care about his people. Regrettably, the U.S. is so concerned about regular Iraqi citizens, that our own are and will be killed beyond any expectations. How many dictators are warned in advance about a possible attack!!! Our manners were impeccable. But war is no time for manners.
Brian, you were a baby when the Vietnam war was going on. The only, I stress "only" reason the U.S. did not categorically win that war is because the socialist peaceniks (college students who were members of the Socialist Workers Party and Students for a Democratic Society) were successful at ravaging this country. (Ask me about the origins of these two organizations sometime.) It was the ultimate goal to of SWP and SDS to destroy the U.S. Don't believe me? Remember where I worked in the mid-60s. If you looked at SWP and SDS membership, you would find out they were pot-smoking, LSD tripping, free-sex practitioners bent on their temper tantrums rather than getting an education. This is public knowledge, not my opinion. Look at some pictures from that period.
Again, these same types are wrecking havoc on our nation. Many will hail this a great victory! I suggest an education in "intelligence" to open your eyes.
Remember the recent hostage situation in Moscow? What do you think the Russian police handled the problem? They killed the hostage takers!!! Good for them...but the world is a hypocrite to deny America's right to do the same. (Oh, its not the same, eh? No, guess not. Hostages at a Moscow theatre does not compare to flying into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and downing a third plane in Pennsylvania on its way to the White House.
I am sick to death about the peaceniks and U.S. haters. Why do they hate us? Because they are so goddamed jealous of us that the only way they can ever compete is to destroy.
As to the recent executions, why is President Bush, Secretary Rumsfeld, General Franks, et al, not expressing outrage and vowing to render retribution the likes we have not seen? I'm completely disgusted.
Bomb the Iraqis to death! Do you think Russia or Germany, for one second, would hesitate to go after the "axis of evil" had they been attacked as we were on 11 September? Do you think world opinion would be against either of these two countries? Not on your life. Not one Russian or German would protest their country's action. People forget that we have been at war since that infamous day. Hypocrisy reigns.
Brian, get used to living in a 3rd world country.
Mom
