Imagery! I love the Hobbit holes. Bag End is fabulous.

doesn't this also belong in the J.R.R. forum?

imagery... oh yes...he thoroughly mastered the art...who ever thought words could paint such beautiful, or in some cases down right disturbing, images?

Since there are only 4 of us in there, I will leave it here for now.

Because when we're reading about Middle Earth we're forgetting it's not our world. It's described so convincingly I sometimes feel like a Gondorian or a Hobbit... The fantasy world too makes it even more convincing - we're all descendants of some barbarians that really believed in beings and things like those we read about in the books, and it's all in our sub-consciousness...
Blah, blah.
That, and the Tolkien's talent. Which I will not comment. Isn't necesarry.

Because it gives us a chance to see creatures and people which we have only dreamed of. And I meant "see" because with the way Tolkien wrote it is possible to really see these characters as well as the magnificent world in which they lived..................

It is a beautiful world with no tv. Breathtaking scenery, interesting "folk" wandering the land. No place like it.

It is just so beautiful - especially Hobbiton and Rivendell. Peregr!n and I are going to build little hobbit-holes to live in when we're older! :P

Yay!
For me, its that its soooooo different from this world! There arent any power lines or plastic bags littering the landscape. Its perfect. And you can always escape to Middle Earth, no matter where you are.

It stretches your imagination as far as it can go... There is so much there, Tolkein left out no detail, no matter how small; From word derivation's to the effects of Ent Draught.

When I am reading the book or watching the film, I feel like I am there. I am part of middle earth. It is so real to me. I actually believe that hobbits, elves, and trolls exist. I feel like the 10th member of the fellowship, and all these guys are my friends. I know them as well as I know my family and close friends.

Tolkien didn't just write a timeless story. He created a whole world. It has it's own geography, maps, history, culture, language, music, etc. There's an answer to almost every question you may possible have about the world. I understand the history of Middle Earth almost as well as I know American history.

I feel sad too Shadow. You just never want a Tolkien story to end. He really was a genius.

We all love Middle-Earth because we want to be there. Tolkien created a beuatiful and timeless place and we all want to live there and take part in his tales. Just to escape the hustle and bustle of our lives, dawn the armour of the Rohirrim or Gondorian men and take part in Helms Deep or the battle of Pellinor fields. We love Middle-Earth because it is completely diufferent to modern day and it is something we can never experiance.

Well said Tiger! And we do all want to be there, reading the books makes you feel like you are there and the movies finally brought to life your imagination of Middle Earth

Exaclty Tiger. Everytime I finish those books, I expect to look up and see the Fellowship standing around reading with me. Its enchanting.

The friendships were also so stong and touching. Middle Earth had wonderful faithful people who also knew how to laugh.

Tolkien did a great job of getting you attached to certain characters And I always thought it was incredible how he created his own language just for a race he created that he obviously loved dearly

I think it is a bit of jelousy invovle as well. Everytime I watch the Fellowship of the ring and see the shire or Rivendell or Lothlorien I get this felling inside myself, and I think to myself 'why couldn't our world be like that?'

Your right I have wondered that. But Middle earth has it's downfalls, think of all the evil places as well...It does have it's downfalls. But I would give anything to live in Lothlorien

Everyplace has its bad points, you just have to learn to live with it and overcome it. That is one of the main issues of Tolkiens Middle-Earth. I espeically love the early scenes in the shire where Gandalf comes to Bag End an the cameras panthe area and show field upon fields of green plants. It would be great to live there.

I've noticed that before... every place in Middle Earth has its own colour, like the Shire is lush green, Fangorn is dark green, Minas Tirith is white, Edoras is a sandy, beige colour, and Mordor is black

The Shire was beyond beautiful...And just think it was actually there, they grew all of those flowers and trees. I would just love to go see the Shire someday, though I am not sure it is still there

Wow thats a great point Sandy, I never noticed that before!!! I wonder if thats what they were aiming for? And don't forget Lothlorien, it was blue

The shire was probably like Fangorn, a warehouse with computer animation and scenes added to show the rest of the place.

That bridge and house in Hobbiton is an actual location, and I think they built the hobbit holes on location, or at least, that's what it looks like in my LOTR guide. :shrugs:
