| Posted by: fuscia | | Welcome to the Lord of The Rings Forum. We have many exciting threads in here, so please enjoy.
Please keep things on topic in the threads. We need to remain on topic so that people looking into the threads do not become confused as to what the topic is. There is an Off Topic thread for your use. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | We are going to start weeding through a lot of the threads here in the LotR forum.... and deleting these posts. They have nothing to do with the forum, the topics, etc....
Please, don't make our jobs on here any harder. This is a great forum, and you all have so much good to add in here. But, this off topic posting, over and over, is out of control. We have asked you all to not do this, but you simply will not comply.
There are people who come in to forums, because the topic is of interest to them. But, when they go through the threads, to their surprise, these posts have nothing to do with the topic, and they leave, in disgust.
So, please, we need you to all do you part and post on topic. If you want to go off that topic, you can start a new thread, where it is appropriate.
Thank you,

Thank you.

| Posted by: Shadow Stalker | | a shame that this has to happen. out of curiosity, is this the forum in which off topic stuff is the worst, or is all over INR?
i'm thinking it might be time to put in Sub-threads...just my 2 cents though. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | It happens in a lot of places that have heavy traffic. Once one person posts an off topic comment, it just starts the snowball rolling....
I'm not sure that I want mini forums in here at this time. This forum would have to grow a lot more before that happens. And, seeing how we are now at the end of the last movie, I don't see a need for that.
It is a good choice though.... and something that we will keep in mind!!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Heather, try not to look at this as an 'inconvience' but as a learning lesson for us all.
It's so easy to chit chat, about anything and everything. Trust me... I do it too.
The point that we're really trying to make here, is that when a thread is started by someone, the intentions are to discuss what they have made the thread for.
So, in creating some off topic threads, that allows for chit chat, of anything you want to talk about. And, you all have the capibility of starting threads. So, if something goes off topic, you can make a new thread, about that, and go from there.
Think about it this way.... when you're reading a book that you really like, what would happen if all of a sudden, the book became a completely different story? You wouldn't like it. I know that I wouldn't.... and I'm an avid book reader. You want to read your story, and know where it's going, and how it's going to end. Well, each forum is like a book. Within the "book" you have chapters, or threads! Each thread containing one of those chapters is vital to the book, being complete.
You all do a GREAT job. We love having you in here... love getting to know you... love having fun together. But, together, we should all work to make this LotR forum a great place for ALL who are regulars and visitors. We want our visitors to keep coming here and enjoying this as much as we do. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | I totally agree with you, KJ. We forget to stay on topic a lot, but you and Sherry do a good job getting us back on track. Thank you. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | You are welcome Heather. Kris is right, we do really love this little LOTR family. We just have to keep some order so that it is enjoyable for everyone. | | Reply To this Message

Or worse yet, we might just point the admins this way!

Hey, I would take an Uruk-hai any day!!! The admins... now they are much too powerful.
But honestly, I think Marc and Sean are quite good.

| Posted by: Shadow Stalker | | If any of you absolutely have to put something off topic in your posts, just put something that is on topic along with it. that will keep the mods from having to scream at you, and allow you to make those OT comments that wouldn't really make sense to PM someone about.
edit: wait nope...nevermind..KJ has decreed that they don't want us going off topic in our posts at all...so forget what i just said... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | We prefer that you DONT make off topic comments though.
Many of you are doing these off topic comments to distraction.
We are going to start issuing warning points, if you keep this up! | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: fuscia | | Most of these off topic comments should be sent in a PM or said on the off topic thread.
Kris, that should not make you unpopular. Off topic is not a difficult concept to understand. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | I agree, off topic is VERY easy to understand. Oh well... it's deleting time! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | We now have the ability to give out specific warning points if you are continually off topic. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: doyoulikepie75 | | Watch out, KJ and fuscia are on a power trip - giving out warning points to anyone who gets on their nerves. Run. Run and hide.
It's my theory that it's plain Human Nature to be off-topic... it also happens to be damn annoying at the same time. A winning combo. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: fuscia | | No it is not a power trip. For a period in time the threads were all severely off topic for pages at a time. People are now on topic. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: diahn | | Sorry, I am just wondering something.
How much possibly can be said about Lord of the Rings...do you love the movie that much?
What IS this website, even? Oh my god, I can't really believe I'm even here. Are you guys even real?
Thats philosophy for ya! Are you real? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: adityamahesh | | Actually we are all automated robots created by a secret society which takes pleasure in watching non-alive objects interact with each other. We can talk about almost anything under the Sun all day long. We don't need food, we don't need water. We are the new AI (Artificial Insomniacs). | | Reply To this Message

Wow... the assumption here just amazes me. If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that we don't give out warning points for annoying us. Though, it would be nice... like, right now.
But, we are actually held accountable for the warnings that we give.
We don't power trip... rather, we work to make this an atmosphere (all the staff does) that people enjoy coming back to.
Yes, being off topic is quite annoying, to many people. But, I have yet to give someone more than a verbal warning for such a thing.

Well I was kidding, but if a power trip is what you want, be my guest. Of course... I'm not the one to authorise it, and I'm not sure how kindly the administration would look upon it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: doyoulikepie75 | | Well be that as it may, you could always intimidate the forum users with a scary-looking avatar. now That's resourceful! 'tearuup' has the right idea, what with the homicidal maniac look. Invokes power! | | Reply To this Message

Actually, there is some power tripping among the staff. Not Kris and Sherry, though. They are both great. A staff member was actually the reason why I stopped coming in the middle of March and why I don't come here as often now.
