| I saw Chicago. Did I like it? No, I loved it! It was awesome. But I think the live musical is still better (yes, I saw it on Broadway, and yes I'm bragging - deal with it).
Did I think it was worthy of Best Picture? Actually no. I wanted Two Towers to get it, but that's wishful thinking considering that movies like LOTR just don't get Academy Awards except for special affects, sound, editing, and maybe, maybe music (pfft right, though I do think Howard Shore is worthy). But at least, I was hoping The Pianist would get the award.
The problem I have with Chicago getting the award is that it's been done and better on stage. It was a great interpretation on film. Gere and all did very fine performances. But it's already a famous stage musical. Someone just decided to put it on film. At best I would have given it best editing, or cinematography. But best picture? Probably not. | |
