all right, we've all seen how PJ screwed up in the details...but thats what they are, details. when you get right down too it, PJ did a great job, in my opinion, of conveying the true meaning of the story. what do you all think?

He made breathtaking movies. They were visually beautiful and the casting was perfect . His attention to detail and trying to stay as true to the books as he could were great. He may have strayed from J.R.R. Tolkien, but he also exposed a whole new generation to that magical world of Middle Earth. Great thread Shadow.

This is a great thread. I think that PJ did a great job too. The books are so complex it would be impossible to include everything. Since he had to cut so much out he had to rewrite some of it to keep continuity. I think he really conveyed the whole meaning of the story well.

yay PJ good job! and yay Shadow for coming up with this great idea for this thread PJ did an excellent job with these extremely complicated books and those who don't think so should take a look at the animated ones from like the 70's

when you look at it...half the stuff he simply couldn't put in due to time, and complexity of story...
he simply couldn't follow every sub-story that was in the book. which is why the book is so much better.

Peter Jackson did the best he could. The book is too complex

Don't you all think that the depiction of the city of Gondor was very well done?

That was a shocker to me too. I can't believe the strange details they put into it. Things that never would be seen on camera. Everything in the model made sense, all roads, tunnels ect.

In FOTR he did a superb job with Gandalf on the bridge battling the Balrog. He followed Tolkien and it was masterful.

Yes he did. I just could not put the book down at that point. I was way to wired to sleep and it was after midnight when I read that part. It is so nice to meet someone who appreciates this masterpiece as much as I do. To us!

I think PJ got the locations right........... I mean wowwwwwww!!! He also got the casting right even though it took him 2 tries to get Aragorn.........can't be right all the time I guess......................

Its amazing to think that all those locations were in New Zealand! (apart from the ones done in a studio of course! But Viggo was the perfect choice for Aragorn...just how I imagined him!

Yeah I have to agree with you Peregr!n, no one else would have done Tolkien's Aragorn justice............. and to think there were some rumors flying about that Keanu Reeves or Russell Crowe were going to be asked *shiver* .......... I don't think I would of seen the movies then!
