I know this is a silly question, but it is bugging me. Isildur was from Gondor. Sauron is from Mordor. The war in which Isildur cut the ring from Sauron's finger was fought at Mount Doom. So Isildur became the ringbearer at Mount Doom. Well, he lost it and Smeagol and Deagoll found it while boating in Gladden Fields. I looked on the map of Middle Earth and Gladden Fields is located between Rivendell and Mirkwood. Why would Isildur be there? Especially since he lost the ring because the ring was beginning to betray him. If it was betraying him wouldn't it be trying to get closer to Mordor instead of venturing into elf country.

I don't think it had a choice, while it wanted to get away from Isildur, it couldn't move on its own. Perhaps it knew an elf would try to destroy it taking it to Mordor. But when it fell into one of the rivers it had to go with the flow and eventually wound up in the lake where Smeagol obtained it in.

Isildur lost the ring in the river and the river carried the ring to the Gladden Fields where Smeagol and Deagol found it.

Was there a battle at Gladden fields? I haven't read allll of the books, but a friend of mine thinks that Isildur was in fact in Gladden Fields when he lost the ring, but he can't remember why.

I believe there was. Wasn't he slayed by Orcs? I know that only 3 men came back from Gladden Fields.

I believe that Sauron was defeated, but not all of his followers. There were still evil Orcs. If I am wrong, someone perhaps an Elf Friend will know.

Isildur was not in the Gladden Fields. he was by The River Anduin, which flows through the Gladden Fields. Isildur was slain in the river, and the Ring was carried downstream by the rivers current. eventually it wound up in the Gladden Fields, where it was found by Deagol.
no not all of Sauron's followers were killed. some surrendured. others fled. and still yet others were hunted down and killed. the men who surrendured were given the land of Mordor to do with what they could.

My understanding was that after the defeat of Sauron........ Isildur took the ring and was traveling back to his throne........he was ambushed along the way, where the ring betrays him...... he jumped into the river (Anduin) after putting it on to escape the Orcs but the ring slipped off his finger, which was the reason why the Orcs saw him and shot him fulls of arrows *sigh* The ring then travelled down the River Anduin and made its way to Gladden Fields where it finds Smeagol/Gollum.......

Anyhow that was MY understanding....someone tell me if I am wrong??
