| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all that have lived to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given you.
That is in the movie, FOTR, but I'm not sure about the book so I don't know if I should credit this beautiful line to Tolkien or Jackson. Gandalf says it when they are in Moria, when Frodo realizes that Gollum is following them. Then at the very end of the movie, he flashesback and we hear it again. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: airaeresse | | I was just wondering, what are some of y'all's fave quotes from the movies? I myself and partial to these:
"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." ~Galadriel, FotR
"I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise. Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee, and I don't mean to. I don't mean to." ~Sam, FotR
"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing..." ~Boromir, FotR
"How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand: There is no going back. There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep." ~Frodo, RotK
"Have you seen it, Aragorn? The white tower of Ecthelion glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, its banners caught high in the morning breeze. Have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets?" ~Boromir, FotR
"A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire." ~Eowyn, TTT
"Don't go where I can't follow." ~Sam, RotK
"I do no doubt his courage, only the reach of his arm." ~Eomer, RotK
And here's a quote from the book that I just love and had to add in:
"Eowyn, I would not have this world end now, or lose so soon what I have found." ~Faramir, RotK
***************
I also love what Aragorn says to the army before the black gate, but I don't know the exact words...

Well, no... You see, on the barrow-downs name translator, the town I'm from in the shire is Binbale Wood. But I changed it to Binbale for my LotR Hobbit Roleplay character. But there IS a place called Bindbale wood... But in my imagination, Binbale is located along the river, a day's pony ride from Hobbiton.

Lord Elrond: You gave away your life's grace, I cannot protect you any more
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eomer: You cannot achieve victory thorugh strength of arms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aragorn: Maybe not for ourselves, but we can give Frodo a chance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elrond: This is your test, every path you have drawn through wilderness, through war, has lead to this road.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elrond: The enemy will never let Aragorn come to the throne of Gondor.
Arwen: It is time. Give him the sword of the king.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elrond (to Aragorn): You have come to who you were born to be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf: The order is set, the pieces are moving
And then the ever famous speech from Aragorn outside the Black Gates. I loove that one, but does anyone know the real one?Because " I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship but it is not this day. This day, WE FIGHT!!" isn't it. That's the one that was in the trailer, but I'm like pooositive that the movie one is different because remember how that one was much longer? Everyone else has their favorite quotes because they give them insight or help give the characters depth, etc. It's refreshing to hear from someone who likes a line because it's amusing. That's the beauty of the story (movie and book). In spite of it's depth, complexity, and darkness there are still lots of lines that just make you smile. Tolkein and Jackson are both good at throwing lines like that in. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: akari seni | | I love this quote from Gandalf in FOTR:
Gandalf: A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.
But one thing, when he said it, is he saying that he meant to be late in seeing Frodo in The Prancing Pony and instead be held hostage from Saruman? He meant to fall in Moria, from the bridge of Kazad Dûm?

| Posted by: akari seni | | FOTR:
Bilbo: I'm old Gandalf. I know I don't look it, but I'm beginning to feel it in my heart. I feel thin…sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread. I need a holiday, a very long holiday, and I don't expect I shall return. In fact, I mean not to.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bilbo: Alas, eleventy-one years is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits. I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frodo: Come on Sam. Remember what Bilbo used to say: “It's a dangerous business… (the voice of of Bilbo comes)…Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elrond: Strangers from distant lands, friends of old. You have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle-Earth stands upon the brink of destruction. None can escape it. You will unite or you will fall. Each race is bound to this fate--this one doom.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Boromir: It is a strange fate we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing… Such a little thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TTT:
Sam: Mordor. The one place in Middle-Earth we don’t want to see any closer is the one place we’re trying to get to, and just where we can’t get.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf: Darkness took me and I strayed out of thought and time. The stars field of end, and everyday was as long as a life age on the earth. But it was not the end. I felt life in me again. I’ve been sent back until my task is done.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf: I am Gandalf the White, and I come back to you now at the turn of the tide.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf: Shadowfax. He’s the lord of all horses and has been my friend through many dangers.(Winks at him)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf: Be silent. Keep your forked tongue behind your teeth. I have not passed through fire and death to bandy crude words with a witless worm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aragorn: It is an army bread for a single purpose. To destroy the world of men.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Legolas: We have trusted you this far, you have not led us astray. Forgive me, I was wrong to despair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gimli: What’s happening out there?
Legolas: Shall I describe it to you, or would you like me to find you a box?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Théoden: Let this be the hour when we draw swords together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frodo: I can’t do this Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here, but we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened?
A new day will come, and when the sun shine it’ll shine out the clearer. Those are the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now, folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding onto something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf:The battle for Helm’s Deep is over, the battle for Middle Earth is about to begin. All our hopes now lie with two little hobbits. Somewhere in the woodlands.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ROTK:
Pippin: I don't want to be in a battle, but waiting on the edge of one I can't escape is even worse.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Éomer: I do not doubt his heart, only the reach of his arm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Éowyn: Why should Merry be left behind? He has as much cause to go to war as you. Why can he not fight for those he loves?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Legolas: The way is shut. It was made by those who are dead, and The Dead keep it. The way is shut.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Éowyn: No. No, I am going to save you.
Théoden:You already did. Éowyn, my body is broken. You have to let me go. I go to my fathers in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed. Éowyn...

Arwen: Sleep.

| Posted by: akari seni | | Elrond: If Aragorn survives this war you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated and Aragorn made King and all that you hoped for comes true, you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality. Whether by the sword or a slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you, no comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death. An image of the splendor of the Kings of men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on, in darkness and in doubt. As night falling until it comes without a star. Here you will dwell, bound to your grief under the fading trees.Until all the world is changed and the longs years of your life are utterly spent. Arwen.There is nothing for you here, only death. | | Reply To this Message

The power of the enemy is growing. Sauron will use his puppet Saruman to destroy the people of Rohan.Isengard has been unleashed. The eye of Sauron now turns to Gondor.The last free Kingdom of men. His war on this country will come swiftly. He senses the Ring is close. The strength of the Ringbearer is fading. In his heart Frodo begins to understand, the quest will claim his life. You know this. You have foreseen it. It is the risk we all took. In the gathering dark the will of the ring grows strong. It works hard now to find its way back into the hands of men. Men, who are so easily seduced by its power. The young captain of Gondor has but to extend his hand, take the ring for his own, and the world will fall. It is close now. So close to achieving its goal. For Sauron will have dominion over all life on this earth, even unto the ending of the world. The time of the elves is over. Do we leave middle earth to its fate? Do we let them stand alone? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: akari seni | | Aragorn: You cannot wield it! None of us can. The One Ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master.
Legolas: This is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance.
Gandalf:I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins, so long as it is your's to bear
Aragorn: If my my life, or death, I can protect you, I will. You have my sword.
Legolas: And you have my bow.
Gimli: And my axe!
Elrond: Nine companions...so be it. You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring.
Pippen: Great, where are we going?
Bilbo: Oh…I’m sorry I brought this upon you my boy...I’m sorry that you must carry this burden. I’m sorry for everything!
Gandalf: We now have but one choice. We must face the long dark of Moria. Be on your guard. There are older and fouler things than orcs in the deep places of the world | | Reply To this Message

This line is so powerful. That is exactly what goes through your mind when you know that you may lose someone you love.
