What are your favorite quotes and who says them? I think that sam and smeagol have some of the best lines ... what do you think?

That is in the movie, FOTR, but I'm not sure about the book so I don't know if I should credit this beautiful line to Tolkien or Jackson. Gandalf says it when they are in Moria, when Frodo realizes that Gollum is following them. Then at the very end of the movie, he flashesback and we hear it again.

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" Gandalf says this to the balrog *sp* in Moria. This is when the viewer realizes just how powerful Gandalf really is. He's not just a really sweet old man with a few tricks up his sleeve. He can fight pure and true evil.

It looked really nice... the geography for all of Middle Earth... check it out.

i have it...its the reason i even bothered with the Silmarillion. it mentioned all these places i had never heard of, most of which were from the Silmarillion, so i read it.
Middle Earth Atlas is really cool. plus it lists some of the history behind certain countries that are mentioned in legends in LOTR...

ah...never really looked at the shire...more into rohan and gondor and mordor...

I was trying to plot out where Binbale would be, seeing as it is the setting of half my hobbit roleplays with my friends. Question: does Pippin live in Buckland or Tookland?

Tookbogough (tookland) would be where he lives as hes a Took, not a Brandybuck, who live in Buckland.

Thats a good speech...some people cheered at the end of it! When he runs forward to meet the orc army you would think that Gandalf or Eomer would follow him but Merry and Pippin do! hehehe i like that bit!

ha ha! It's so cute! you always here a few people chuckle when it shows the wide shot of them running and they are so tiny! I think it is so interesting to hear how different crowds react to rotk each time. I always clap at the end... sometimes people join in and sometimes they just look at me like I am insane. I like it both ways. When I went on opening day this lady behind me gasped really load when shelob came back... I had read the books already as with most of the other people there... So I did a really load fake gasp right after her to make fun of her. It was hilarious

I know isn't it fun! all the people who heard me were cracking up. it was so funny. Another time I was meeting three of my friends there and I had saved three perfect seats. They were late and the theater was full, so this man comes over and askes if anyone was sitting there. I said that all three were saved and he still sat in one! I was like "excuse me SIR... these THREE seats are saved." I can get very aggressive when it comes to my lotr seats! lol

He's called Elessar after he's been made king. King Elessar. A few times before he's called that by Gandalf or Galadriel as well... in all those parts where they're talking about what "he will become"
He's been called Estel in Rivendell. Estel means hope. The elves who raised him there called him Estel, not Aragorn because nobody should know about his "true identity". "Hope" because he's the last hope for men and stuff...

Aragorn's name is explained in great detail in the appedices of ROTK.

Sandy, I like how your favorite quote is so different from everyone elses. Everyone else has their favorite quotes because they give them insight or help give the characters depth, etc. It's refreshing to hear from someone who likes a line because it's amusing. That's the beauty of the story (movie and book). In spite of it's depth, complexity, and darkness there are still lots of lines that just make you smile. Tolkein and Jackson are both good at throwing lines like that in.
