Hey Heather, you forgot David Wenham |
| Posted by: Eoghanán | | He does the melancholical air of Faramir very well. The moment when he is sitting in the cave (just before Anborn tells him they've found Gollum in the pool) - I could look at that for hours. Actually, I use to replay all the Faramir scenes.
But I'm still waiting for RotK to be played in English where I live - I hate synchronisations. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: doyoulikepie75 | | I can only imagine your pain, Eoghanán. How's the weather in Germany?
Es ist "nicht gut" im Australien... that's probably wrong, but cut me some slack, I'm still learning.
I can't imagine Gandalf with a German accent... although I imagine it would be pretty damn funny. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Eoghanán | | The different accents of the actors get lost, and some voices just don't match. Galadriel's German voice *shudder*
I've got the EE DVDs, and in Germany, you have the language option between German and English (and with or without subtitles).
Elijah Wood was guest in a German Saturday Evening TV show a few days before RotK started. They showed a little scene, and then Elijah said, "wow, I had no idea I suddenly can speak German. That's cool." (Nice fellow, BTW, he stayed all through the show. Often star guests leave after their part.)
In case you wonder about my name (alias): it is not German, it is Pictish. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Eoghanán | | The Picts - a people living in Britain in Dark Age times. Their language was a Celtic one.
They're one of my research subjects (I'm a historian), and Eoghanán was the name of their last king, who in 846AD was defeated by Cinaéd of the Scottish Dál Riata, who then became King of Alba.
I also wrote a story about him. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Eoghanán | | I just wanted to pop this to the first page.
It is bad enough Peter treated poor Faramir almost as negligently as did Denethor.
We should pay him more respect. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | I've only seen him in LotR and Moulin Rouge... though, I have NO idea WHO he played in that. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Eoghanán | | I'm not a moviegoer. Actually, the LOTR movies, Cyrano de Bergerac and Kenneth Branagh's Henry-film were the only ones I saw the last ten years. So, I judge the actors only by their performance in LOTR. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: doyoulikepie75 | | I believe in scene 28, if you look Behind the curtain, there's a shadow moving around. That's not him.
I have no idea either. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Maja88 | | ::OFF TOPIC:: Wow Eoghanán... your website is cool! Now I wanna be a medievalist! Your stories are great! By the way, since you're kinda into it, do you know some good web sites with Scandinavian and Slavic mythology, and middle-age legends in general? Would you mind posting it... I'm doing kind of a story myself. thank you! | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | I'd like to learn more about it too. I'm not doing a story, but I'm naturally curious. | | Reply To this Message

As a professional historian I rely more on books than on websites, and many books I use aren't written in English.
There is a good site about Scandinavian culture:

You can use this one to learn about King Arthur:

And I'll keep an eye open for other sources about legends.
BTW Thanks for the compliment
