| Posted by: fuscia | | I thought he had the right look for the part-sinister. He did a great job. Evil Saruman. He captured that crazed look very well. | | Reply To this Message

They had to cut out Saruman so that they could keep Viggo singing. *sarcasm*

| Posted by: Shadow Stalker | | and thats just films, he has also done a number of plays. he's in the book of world records for having the most screen credits. he has like more than 300 film and television productions.
He did an excellent job in his portrail of Saruman. i don't think anyone could have done it better. after all, Lee has read LOTR once every year for the past 5 decades. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Yes, if you will notice, I put "Filmography" That would entail... movies on the big screen!!
In 2001, after appearing in nearly 300 film and television productions and being listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the international star with the most screen credits to his name, the 79-year-old actor undertook the role of Saruman, chief of all wizards, in director Peter Jackson's eagerly anticipated screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Thought by many to be the millennial predecessor to George Lucas' Star Wars franchise, audiences thrilled to the wondrous battle between Saruman and Gandalf (Ian McKellen) atop the wizard's ominous tower, though Lee didn't play favorites between the franchises when Lucas shot back with the continuing saga of Anakin Skywalker's journey to the dark side in mid-2002. Wielding a lightsaber against one of the most powerful adversaries in the Star Wars canon, Lee proved that even at 80 he still had what it takes to be a compelling and demanding screen presence. | | Reply To this Message

actually, the only reason i know that is because i went and looked him up on lordoftherings.net
another cool thing about him is he actually met JRR Tolkien. that would be cool.

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | You have to admit, Peter Jackson did do a pretty good job. The article is right, the story is difficult and complex to put on the screen. I don't know if the author would have like the movie either, but I think he would have appreciated it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | J.R.R. Tolkien was a simple man. He likened himself to a Hobbit. I think he may have appreciated the visual aspects, but not the way PJ changed the characters. Let's face it, Christopher Tolkien has done so much for his father's literary legacy. It would be hard to see any changes to such a brilliant work. | | Reply To this Message
