What do you think of Billy Boyd as an actor? Do you think that he portrayed Pippin well?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: billyisthebest

Billy is quite a character. He has got to be one of my favorites (note my screenname) I love the fact that he he Scottish (he has the cutest accent! I wanna live there!) and he is a great actor in my opinion... he just looks alot like Pip too, and although he is actually the oldest of sean, elijah, and dom, it is beleiveable that pippin is the youngest and the least wise.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

That is weird. And Frodo is the oldest of the four Hobbits. But Elijah Wood is the youngest of the actors.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: billyisthebest

I know... But some how it works. Although elijah's frodo dosn't look the oldest to me, and if I hadn't read the books I think I would probably think that sam was the oldest or something, not frodo.

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

In the book, Frodo is like almost 50 when he leaves the Shire. He is 33 when he inherits the ring. In the book, it takes several years for Gandalf to realize that the Bagginses have the "One Ring"

Oh yeah, his accent is sooo cute.

It reminds me of the time I lived in Scotland. But you can be glad he didn't speak genuine Scots, you would have been at a loss then, ye ken.

Merry, Pippin, and Sam all have Scottish-like accents. But then Frodo sounds more British. ???

Reply To this Message

Posted by: billyisthebest

Actually, only Billy is from scotland... Dom is from Germany, and both sean and elijah are from america. The reason that Frodo has a different accent from the rest is because he is supposed to be sort of an upperclass hobbit, which is why he is more learned in the way of languages and so forth. And Eoghanan, I like the way all scots talk, although billy's accent is a little less heavy.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I knew that billy was from Scotland and Sean and Elijah from US, but I didn't know that Dominic is from Germany. Nice info! And thank for the explanation about the accent. I never thought of it that way before. I guess that explains Smeagol's really bad grammar. After all, he is a river hobbit.

Posted by: billyisthebest

sure any time! ya, Dom was born in Germany, although I think that later he moved to England where he grew up.

I read this hilarious interveiw of Dom and Billy, and they were talking about this one time when they were walking through France with Elijah and this kid ran up and started screaming Igles! Ingles! at them or something like that and they were like, what? and then he just hits dom and runs away.

I had a crush on Sean Astin when I was growing up. I fell in love with him when I saw Goonies. I can't believe he gained 30 lbs for LOTR. He still looks good though.

It is grating. And yes, the little blonde one in ROTK is really his daughter, although she's older now.

I love the way that Dom plays Merry! he does a good job showing how sharp he is... and the way he always looks out for Pippin. Billy does a good job looking to Merry for guidence all through the trilogy. You can always see him looking at Merry to see what's happening. It's cute!

Oh my God! I never knew that the Scot's accent was so popular! Though I have to take offence at the "You can't understand the one's who've spent their whole lives there" comment! I've lived here all my life and so far have had no problem being understood! Though I have to admit that yes there are some that even I can't understand easily, but that's true of most accents. You get harsh and soft one's, like the London accent, is very easy to understand, but the Cockney accent is almost impossible sometimes, though with all honesty, when Scot's get going and excited we have difficulty understanding each other at all sometimes! Interesting point though, the best English speakers in the world come from Inverness! (I suppose that that's the equivalent to the Deep South for you americans! (No offence intended to anyone from Inverness!
))

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

I heard that: about the best English speakers from inverness.
And with the understanding thing...it does depend on how fast you talk! I live with a Scottish person and i still have a bit of trouble understanding the people who live there when we visit!

Reply To this Message

It's not the accent so much that is sometimes hard to understand... but more the different phrases that Scots use that are sometimes confusing to me. But I absolutly LOVE the accent.

Did anyone hear that Billy is going to be doing a romantic comedy. I haven't heard much about it, but supposedly they began filming this month. It's a british film and I think it's called "On Love". Hopefully it's released in America too. It's weird though, because I remember reading in an interview one time that Billy wouldn't want to play a romantic lead. Oh well, I'm glad he is. I think he has what it takes to be a romantic lead. What do you ladies think?

Its released on DVD and VHS April 12th, and if your a big fan of Billy, you will most likely enjoy his part in this movie, it was strange seeing him as something other than a four foot hobbit though.

You'll have to go online to find them. British websites are sure to have Urban Ghost story. I don't know about Sniper though. Wasn't that a tv movie? That might be harder to find. If you find them, let me know.

She was wearing a really pretty dress. It was blue and a bunch of other pastel colors. It would have complimented her more if he would have been in all black. Since he was colorful she would have looked better in something plain. Separately they looked good, but together it was a color mess. They totally clashed. Where was his stylist?!? Usually celebrities don't make that mistake.

There's some pics of Sean Astin and his wife Christine. They dressed how a couple should. Their outfits didn't clash, they looked very good standing next to each other. I guess the Astins have been in Hollywood a lot longer than Billy Boyd and his girlfriend. They just know about the whole public image thing a little better.

I never knew that this "Billy Boyd" person existed, even when I watched FotR for the first time. It was when I saw him on the big screen for the first time (TTT) that I really fell in love with him. One, he plays my favorite character in the book, which is Pippin.

He seems like such a nice guy, and I really love his acting, and his singing (scary thing is that we share virtually the same vocal range, but I can go an octave higher, and he can go a note lower).

I also think that he looks absolutley stunning in the pictures from SAG, but when doesn't he look great? LOL!!!!

And a note on Sean Astin... *melts* LOL!!

LOL!!! I would also like to add that I really didn't like anything about the books when I read them the first time, but I had to for school, and then Pippin came in and everything changed.

I don't know what it is about Pippin, but he is just the character that you fall in love with immediatley.

My points exactly. He has his own word to describe him. But it is kinda irksome that mention Pippin, and most people are like, "Oh, Merry and Pippin!" He is his own person, LOL!!

I also think that Pippin is so lovable because everyone has a Pippinish moment. I mean, everyone has a moment when they are like Pippin, some more than others (*cough*ME*cough*)

Billy Boyd and Sean Astin are both supposed to attend the Oscars tonight. I don't know about the rest of the cast, except Viggo. He won't be there.
