Ruben and the restaurant biz... |
| Posted by: Lawless | | RUBEN STUDDARD is getting into the restaurant biz. He tells MTV that he's hoping to open a restaurant in his hometown. "I'm in the process of brainstorming with my marketing team and all that stuff, trying to come up with a concept for a late-night restaurant for people in Birmingham," said Ruben. "it's gonna be open until probably like 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning... It's gonna be classy, it's not gonna be just a thrown together restaruant." As for a name Ruben is still working that out. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: oldbutafan | | Thanks KJ. Do you think Ruben just wants to make sure he always has a place to eat ?
Seriously, why he wants to go into the bar/restaurant business is way beyond me. I have several friends/family who are or WERE in that business and all I've ever heard, even from the successful ones, is that it is one of the toughest businesses to operate and to succeed in. I can believe it because there is just SO much to it.
Ruben's education is in music so it would seem logical that he stick with the entertainment industry for growth.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Another Music celebrity - another restaurant. Stars need to stop doing this, it never works. The only successful star to open a restaurant that i know of is Moby and his works because he is catering to a select client base (vegans).
It had better have really good food/ service/ etc or a great gimmick or it won't work. People expect more from the stars, they view them as being greater than "normal" people, so they would expect high standards from any venture that a star undertook.
And you have to be especially careful when you are talking about food. Everyone gets fussy about food whether you care about Ruben or not. | | Reply To this Message

And it's not only music celebrities ... it's all celebrities. Isn't the hospitality industry still in a bit of a slump ?

I would be more hesitant to dine at a celebrity's restaurant, partially because I would lean towards thinking they may have relied more on and I am paying more for "the name" rather than quality.
My inclination is usually toward the cozier, family owned/operated restaurants anyway. I also think that people are reverting back to more dining at home rather than in highpriced eateries.
As for fussy, boy, have you ever got THAT right ! For example, if a restaurant says that they "specialize" in a certain type of food, I expect the quality, preparation, and presentation to be exceptional and the service to be top notch.
Additonaly, people are not only concerned about quality and service, but also cleanliness, and safety in preparation.
So I do not understand this venture of Ruben's unless things are different in Birmingham ? |
