| Posted by: fred hooper | | One must remember that Gadaffi is nothing of what he once was. He seems his country as African now, not Arab, & has totally given up on Palestine for a while. Added to the fact he saw what happened to the regimes in Aghfanistan & Iraq. Destroyed.
The regime didn't want to be next & they've reinvented themselves away from terrorism & the Arab world. Still not a pretty country but its better than being a terrorist state.
Me thinks, the USA & GB know what they're doing here. Very cunning & this will have domino effects worldwide.

That's the plan, Fred....
But the leftists choose to ignore the long term vision of a Saddam-free Iraq—a democratic, free Iraq. One that benefits the whole region and the whole world and makes for a more secure U.S. They'd rather wallow in their own sorrowful mire and stew in their own juices—they hate Bush so much. Let 'em....

| Posted by: Coogee Beach | | Hey, we're talking about Libya in this one Curl.
I ... can't really form an opinion about Gaddafi ... it astounds me that they can find proof his government had something to do with Lockerbie but can't take them down. Must be a ... nah. I dunno.
I know you righties are going to leap on Gaddafi's decision to give up his WMDs as prove the pre-emptive strike works, that might is right..... - and hell, maybe you're right.
But there's also the other side of the argument (as there always is and as you guys won't admit has an equal say - and may you work it out one day, soon, please) - but ... where am i?
Yes, the other side of the argument says there's been years of diplomacy, of diplomatic pressure, brought to bear on the Gaddafi regime and now it's bearing fruit.
Because the US proved it had lots of guns and wasn't afraid to use em? Maybe. But maybe not.
Hmmmmm - goes both ways huh? Things aren't black-and-white. Makes it hard to make a judgement don't it, when there's good arguments both ways for war, non-war.................
Curley? Your well-thought out, er, thoughts?
Ha! That's funny, again. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Charles | | First of all I don't recall that Libya even had WMD.
There has been lots of diplomatic/economic pressure. But what sends ytou over the edge? To want to come clean and rejoin the world?
There are always competing complex interests involved. The new factor, namely, that Bush plays hard nosed "bad cop" around the world and just doesn't give a damn what anyone else thinks. If he feels there is a threat to US, or allies, or a link to terrorism, etc., YOU COULD BE NEXT.
Set one or two harsh examples, and watch a lot of baddies start toeing the line...
France ain't gonna save ya brother...
I just hope we can follow through. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: USA1 | | Gaddafi knows we aren't kidding and there are no more second chances.
We missed him by inches last time and he knows we would miss next time.
Maybe he's had an epiphany and wants to go down as a decent leader.
We will start seeing more of this from the Arab countries.
The wake up has begun. | | Reply To this Message

Exactly, USA1! A less-kinder, less-gentler approach to terrorist regimes is a helluva a deterrent!

Nothing like the straw that broke the camels back. For whatever reason - fear - or just good timing opportunity - Moamar chose this moment to leverage PR, get attention, and hopefully settle issue. Cheers!

I was just teasing about the absurd level of understatement - muomar - like a hostess after a big party - is trying to clean up all the spills and crumbs after the guests leave...
THIS GUY WAS A MAJOR SPONSOR OF WORLD TERRORISM AND HIS REGIME WAS CONVICTED AND ADMITTED TO PARTICIPATING IN THE BOMBING OF A CIVILIAN AIRLINER KILLING NEARLY 300 PEOPLE!
Sorting out my a$$!

If you were 35000 feet up over lockerbie that day, or if you know someone who was, you may think so.
Maybe he was a minor sponsor because in this example he only murdered 10% of the people that were murdered on 9/11.
You obviously think its important to make the distinction.

You seem quite rightly disgusted with this act of terrorism. Do you take the same view of ANY US sponsored terrorism?
