Yeah, if you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and get the SE box set of Lord of the Rings (4-dsic DVD) and watch the expanded, 3 hour version of the film, then go check out the new one in the theater!

This could be Peter Jackson's legacy.

In recent news, George Lucas has reported that he believes the rest of his career will amount to a failure. Of course, his statement is likely in jest, yet how can he be speaking anything other than the truth?

Do men and women in this world get the chance to produce projects that amount to Star Wars - twice - in their lives? Yes, of course they get the chance. But the odds are against all of us that we'll produce even one thing that amounts to something like Star Wars.

Speaking from the future: The rest of Peter Jackson's career is likely not worth mentioning.

Absolutely enthralled by these movies. Peter Jackson is in his heyday. I thank him a million times over. Can't wait till the last one comes out. Will Jackson stay on a roll? Probably not, but we'll love it while it lasts. Unfortunately not everyone feels the same. Some of my co workers hated it. But they have no imagination or sense of adventure.

What could someone possibly offer as reasons for hating the film? Good lordy... Action, suspense, a love story... all surrounded by beautiful locations and imagery engrained in a timeless aura.

I know the sort of movie-goer that doesn't enjoy LOTR. They're likely "comedy" fanatics. Their favorite sort of film is the kind that makes them laugh - particularly when the humorous content is not that at all, but incredibly dumb. I guess the alternative to LOTR then would be say, old 70's comedies and television re-runs lacking in any sort of style or taste. Oh, yes, now I see the comparitive breakdown of LOTR in their eyes.

Yes, I agree. No style, taste or imagination. One comment was " I have to listen too closely, it's too tiring." Too bad. The reward of " listening closely" was one of the best features along with the beauty and the mystical fantasy of the film. After seeing the first LOTR movie, I purchased the video so I could rewatch it and pick up on every word that I might have missed in the theatre. Oh well, I'm sure I'll never be movie buddies with that person...

Listen too closely, huh... ?

However did they make it through movies like the Matrix (that's only scraping the shallow surface of complex films)... ? Certainly they must have liked that one.

Have you seen the full 30 minute longer Director's Cut (on DVD - 4 Disc Set)?

If so, what'd you think?

No, I haven't seen the Director's Cut, but you peaked my interest. I have the first movie on VHS, but I would prefer the DVD set. And since I received a DVD player for Xmas, I will go look for it. Thanks.

For those who may not know

According to an interview with Peter Jackson onwww.lordoftherings.net , there will be an Extended version of LOTR:Two Towers as well.

If you cannot wait for the movie to come out there's one on the internet floatin around with DVD quality. Bad people - I think newline ticked someone off.

The movie starts off with(so I'm told)
"This Presntation you are about to see is for academy consideration only. It is the property of new line cinema and is not for salee or public exhibition."

i was totally impressed by this movie. unlike most movies made from books, this one captured it totally, and was fascinating and exciting even though it (obviously) had to skip much detail that was in the book.

I think the the Lord of the Rings movies are the best ever. Everything about it, the cinemaphotography, special effects, costumes, etc... The actors were perfect for the parts that they played, and Peter Jackson has completely followed the books.

I really cannot wait for The Return of the King. That's going to ROCK!!! Two Towers was amazing. I loved all the fighting scenes.

I absolutely LOVED this film. The Lord of the Rings movies have been incredible. The fight scene's capture your attention, and leave you sitting on the edge of your seat, even though you've read the book. The cinematography is outstanding in this movie. Peter Jackson brought this book to life like no one else could have done. I can not wait for The Return of the King. And, I can't wait for The Two Towers to be released on dvd. Get the extended version. It's so worth it to have those extra scene's that were cut from the original film.

I wish that PJ would do the HOBBIT or Silmarillion ...would probably be just as good and get to see the creation of middle earth, the elves, the rings, etc.

I adored TTT though I can't get over the fact that Gollum was portrayed as so, hmm, pet-like, innocent and cute, almost, eh, cuddly...

I actually think that Smeagol/Gollum seemed all that more real because of how he was portrayed. The graphics used to make him real on the big screen just blow me away. And the guy who did all the acting/voice for this character was perfect.

I definitely give this film a thumbs-up. The reason I prefer this over Fellowship is because, now that all of the exposition is out of the way, we can lauch on with the plot and character development. I also like that some of the characters stay still for a while rather than journeying on and on. I'm glad that most of the constant running was exhausted in the first film, because it would have been senseless to repeat it in The Two Towers. Thanks to this, we get to admire certain sets for more than 2 minutes and it gives the story some stability. While a little more dramatic license is taken in this film, most additions or subtractions are improvements. Having said this, I think the love triangle was unecessary. The story between Aragorn and Arwen in the first film was well-handled and not over-done, however in film 2 it's like Eowyn is stalking the poor guy. Despite this, the movie is a success, roll on film 3!

PS. I have to agree that PJ has reached the top of the mountain, and it's probably only downhill from now, unless an eagle can come along and help him out.

The Lord of the Rings was great, and Orlando had a nice butt in those tights, made me wanna squeeze it, , but i'll keep all that stuff to myself...and Elijah(Frodo) was so cute

I really enjoy the way the did 2 towers, if they followed the book, the last movie Return of the King would blow, lets not forget, Gandalf and Saramon fight in the 2 towers...if they got all this cool stuff out of the way in the Second part of the triligy the last one would be only the big battles (like in the book) Manis Tarith, and of course Mordor..so yea this was done pervectly!!!! Thumbs WAAAY UP. (only thing i didn't like was Faromire should not have taken Frodo to Gondor..and the ints should not have hesitated on attacking..other than those 2 small things It FOKEN ROLED!!!!!!

Don't give up hope. I think that if the money is right, Peter might be willing to do it again, and give us the prequel.

The Hobbit on film would be fantastic. And really clean up the whole story, as far as film versions go.

Return Of The King will be fantastic, but Two Towers has and always will be my favorite part of the story (except for maybe the very ending) so I don't expect the movie to be as impressive...

oooh... it's getting close, just a couple of months to go... so excited...

I'm excited about The Return of the King too. I can't wait. It's ALMOST December. I loved The Two Towers. I will have to reserve judgement as to which is the best though until I see number 3.

Yes, I think that The Hobbit would be awesome on the big screen. I think that the interest is there for Peter Jackson... now he just needs to move forward on it. He has done such an amazing job at bringing Tolkien to life for so many of us.

I see I'm one of the few that didn't quite like it. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful they're on film and everything, but they really screwed around with all the things. The Evles weren't even suppose to be there. What ever happened to the thing about Elves wanting nothing to do with the Men? And now here they were, ready to give their lives to the Men-_-' I also didn't quite like just what exactly they did to Faramir's character. Now the fact that Gandalf didn't throw down Saruman. I know they left some things for the last movie, but they could have at least put that in there instead of having the battle at Helm's Deep the huge climax. In the books, it was only like a chapter or so and then they moved on. They had a lot of others things in ROTK that they have to explain and they could have done well, in my opinion, with all of them and not have to worry about the things they didn't show in the second one. Yes, I am an old grump at heart

The Extended Version, however, lifted my spirits somewhat. They had a lot of other things and it actually made it enjoyable to me. So, over all, I prefer the Extended version better.

I too was disappointed at the portrayal of Faramir. He was not seduced by the ring like his brother was. Having him take Frodo away betrayed his character. Faramir was one of the true men of character. Other than that, I loved it.

It's been a long time since I've read the books... and I don't remember everything. So, how they has Faramir take Frodo wasn't form the book?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

Faramir released Frodo to go on to mount Doom from the hidden pool. He was never temped or never tried to take him to his father. He was a good and true man, more than his brother was, and he did the right thing in letting Frodo go away with the Ring.

WHY did Peter Jackson change that part?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

I am not sure, but I think it was to show the character of Denthor. Denthor was an ambitious and greedy man and I think it was done so they would not have to "explain" the devotion of Boromir to his dad.

I find it disappointing to see that no one had mentioned anything about the political aspects of the movie and how this movie related to the past and present. It really reflects the time it was written in. I believe the book was written just after WWI when the "machine" or technology was booming. I see this movie as a reflection of the world at this time.
I view the ring as the ultimate power and how every state is trying to gain this power. The Hobbits would represent nations like Ireland whom don't care for that type of power. Frodo, Aragorn... are all other nations. Also, I view Mordor as the machine. For example, in Helms Deep, the Oruks used black powder, something never seen before. That is like technology. Also, in Mordor, weapons were being created at a very fast rate. Another thing I notice was that the dwarfs, man, elves... did not want to help unles it was going to benefit them. For example, the trees were not going to help until they relized they were directly affected.
I really don't want to write any more, but I think it would be somthing worth talking about a bit more.

maren, I think that you have made a GREAT comparison!
You've made me view the story in a whole new way....

Yeah, I also think it's cool that Tolkien wrote it in his time when there was the War and everything, yet, it can still relate a lot about what's going on in our time. That's tight.

Yes! This was a fantastic film! Better than the first, but that is only because so much of the Fellowship was dedicated to back laying the story line. The second was more action packed and inlayed to the characters profiles as the story moves along... so this was a definite thumbs up!
I'm out!
