The ones that actually tell you their weight usually knock off a few pounds first They may weigh 150 but they'll tell you that they weigh 125.

Wow! I just found something...Elijah said this in an interview...
"Geeks are generally the most interesting people."

see!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Yeah I read that, too. Geeks are interesting. We are much more intelligent than a non geek. We have more things to talk about, and people learn things from us. It's great being a geek. Why does the word "Geek" have such a negative connotation?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: peregr!n

not to me!
when i get called a geek i reply either "Thank you!" or "i'm not a geek...im selectively cool!"
who was it that started the 'selectively cool' stuff?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

It has taken me along time to get around to this but;

It depends on your defination of 'geek'. Personally I believe that it is only a word and people can call me what they want.

I put it to you however if you were to meet (and my sister does this) someone that watches alot of sci-fi programmes like Doctor Who and tell them that you like to read Lord of the Rings alot and they call you geeks then they certainly dont get the meaning of the word.

Is someone obsessed with sports or music referred to as a geek?

To finish, Geekiness is in the eye of the beholder.

What exactly is the definition of a geek anyway?

Posted by: adityamahesh

geek n. Slang

1.
a. A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
b. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.

2. A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Perhaps alteration of dialectal geck, fool, from Low German gek, from Middle Low German.]
------------------------------------------------------------------------
geeky adj.

Our Living Language Our word geek is now chiefly associated with student and computer slang; one probably thinks first of a computer geek. In origin, however, it is one of the words American English borrowed from the vocabulary of the circus, which was a much more significant source of entertainment in the United States in the 19th and early 20th century than it is now. Large numbers of traveling circuses left a cultural legacy in various and sometimes unexpected ways. For example, Superman and other comic book superheroes owe much of their look to circus acrobats, who were similarly costumed in capes and tights. The circus sideshow is the source of the word geek, “a performer who engaged in bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.” We also owe the word ballyhoo to the circus; its ultimate origin is unknown, but in the late 1800s it referred to a flamboyant free musical performance conducted outside a circus with the goal of luring customers to buy tickets to the inside shows. Other words and expressions with circus origins include bandwagon (coined by P.T. Barnum in 1855) and Siamese twin.
