1939 VS 2003 - New World Order |
| Posted by: fred hooper | | Think for a moment here about these two years.
Just imagine if the same doctrine & line of thought on world conflict was used back then as it is today. Very glad someone learnt histories lessons on dictators by this century we now live in. Lives & lives saved. Countries & countries saved.
Maybe something like the Nazis, the Japs, the Axis & WW2 had to happen so it would never occur again on such a scale. We're even luckier WW2 ended with the introduction of the A-Bomb. Its sad how the worst thing in the world to ever happen has ended up doing wonders for our future.
One must take a silver lining from anything, even Sept 11 to elsewhere, that dictators & terrorists will be hit FIRST if they go just too far.
Living happy.

p.s. Its a new world order based on freedom, democracy & rule of law. Not some whacky conspiracy theory for gods sake. The sands are shifting even where they aren't being seen. | | Reply To this Message

I hate to pop your bubble but Britain used to invade countries in the names of liberation and freedom long before and after the dates you noted. It's man's nature to dominate and if you think things have changed you're deluding yourself. Our best hope is an international law that countries actually abide by and a real consensus on what has to be done to those countries that don't abide - that's ALL countries not just countries we (the powerful) chose to define as enemies.

Absolutely correct.
It used to be "bringing civilzation", now it is "liberation and democracy".
Get real hooper.
When you are dreaming about the "new world order" being "based on freedom, democracy & rule of law", let's assume that you are optimistic about the first two, which rule of law are you talking about? Because it certainly is not the International Law.

Well, I guess I'm not surprised here. So many believe the US is the "world liberators". In fact, that was some ideologies of these same past dictators we deposed.
Hmmm....when I hear that word "New World Order" I get kinda nervous. On the contrary, I don't think we've learned a thing. | | Reply To this Message

We haven't learned anything. Mankind still has the same characteristics it had thousands of years ago. You could think History teaches us the errors not to make, but it is a perpetual re-start. Some words, some name change; the rhetoric remains. I won't fall into comments about "US imperialism" - it does not describe the complexity of the situation. But it is an established fact that man is always seeking for domination and power. Is it surprising to see that the US is turning into a superpower, dominating the world ? No. USSR would have done the same if it had had the assets and possibilities to do so. It all has to do with hormones in our blood. If I really have to choose, since human's nature expression is irremediable, I prefer the US to lead rather than some others. At the one condition it remains a democratic country.

Excellent point, Fred. Something that needs to be pointed out again and again because it obviously needs to. 'It is the doom of men that they forget....'
