It was cool. I thought it ended like 5 times. I was all getting up, sitting back down, getting up...

So does that mean Frodo and the rest die?

-HECK!

no...they go across the sea to what basically amounts to heaven for middle earth. only elves and a selct few can find it.

But they can't come back, right?

actually they could. but there would be no reason for them to do so, because the place they were going to is essentially heaven for middle earth.

Hey I'm new here but I read that the Grey heavens are like heaven to the elves. Where they can live forever but it is more of a resting place for anyone else before they die (IE Gandalf, Frodo, and Bilbo)

No the Gray Havens was basically a port or departure point for elves

Dragonhalitosis is correct-by the way that is the best name
The Grey Havens are a launching point to go over the seas. I believe that once you go over there, you do not die. The wise, Gandalf and Saurman, came from there to help out middle earth.

There was Radgast the Brown also, right? And who are the other two wizards?

Rhadgast the brown was one, but I don't think they ever mentioned who the other two were.

Considering how detailed the LOTR mythology is, its a shame.

I will have to try to read the Silmarillion again and see if they are mentioned.

they are indeed mentioned in the Silmarillion, as the two wizards in blue...and thats it. nothing is ever heard from them. they go off toward saurons lands are never seen again.

Thanks Shadow Stalker. I have a hard time remembering the Silmarillion. I have only read it once, so I need to try again. I just got so bored with the first chapters.

Both are Blue? Too bad if they were eaten by orcs, or worse, captured and tortured!!! Oh man, do I feel bad for the poor guys.

heh i've only read it once as well, but i have a remarkable memory for these sort of things . yeah...i found the first chapters boring as well. what with having to remeber who each of the valar are, and what they do, all very confusing. after those parts though its incredibly interesting. however, with all the Elven names that start with the same letter gets rather confusing.

Yes the names are so confusing. I have a great memory, but it is hard to read when you have small children distracting you. I just need to find the time to get into it again.

Gandalf indeed went to the grey havens but after that he will leave the planet and return to his universe, galaxy, realm, whatever it is. Wizards like Gandalf, Saurman, radagar all are demi gods who are given tasks, such as to witness the unfolding events of middle earth. and maybe also assist whenever possible, for good or evil.

and they happen to live in valinor. which is where the elves go when they cross the sea.

Really? i'm sure they are from somewhere else not of that planet.

Valianor used to be on the planet, but after Numenor's attack, Illuvatar moved it to a different plane, and now only ships of elves can reach it.

Am I right, Shadow Stalker?

yes you would be correct MM. good memory!
although it not just elven ships. i believe its anyone who has the blessings of the elves that can get there...not sure though. i'll have to reread the Silmarillion.

Yes, Valinor was removed from Arda after the attack by the Numenoreans. And on page one someone said the the Grey Havens was the heaven of the elves where they live forever?? No...the boats are sailing to Aman, the land of the Valar. The Grey Havens is just the port where the ships await the elves. And the elves live forever anyway, even if they were to stay in Middle Earth. The Fellowship that sailed to Aman will stay in Aman until the end of the world.

Also, the wizards never came from a different plane or universe; they came from the outside in the beginning along with the Valar and the Ainur. Gandalf will probably just remain in Aman also until the end of the world, as his purpose is complete.

Not anyone who has the blessings of the Elves, I believe it is basically just the Valar who decide who enters and who gets, well....killed.

They were going to the Grey Havens.

No...the Fellowship DID go to the Grey Havens, but that's not Aman, the land of the Valar. The Grey Havens is just a sea port.

They were going to Valanor (I suck @ spelling)

And like, 100 of my friends kept asking me "Why did Frodo go too?"

So to answer it for any one who's confused, The Shire didn't feel like Frodo's home anymore because of all he had been through and he needed to find peace. His mission was over and there was nothing left for him in the Shire.

There you go lol

Valinor! ^^ yepyep, valinor. the 'undying lands' or summat. It's supposed to be a great honour to be able to go there if you're not an elf. Frodo and Bilbo only got to go there because they did that all that cool stuff, saved the world, shiz like that...and Gimli too, i think...

My theory was that all the ringbearers went, which makes sense for all who had gone. But as Sam did have it for a while, maybe it was the people who held it for a long time?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

no...sam did go. just read the appendix of the book. it talks about what happens to each member of the fellowship.

I want to know the truth, why did Frodo and Bilbo go with Gandalf and Elrond to Valinor?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Shadow Stalker

man...i don't know how many times i've and others have answered this...pj really didn't do a good job of explaining that.
frodo and bilbo go because they were ring bearers. that and frodo never found peace. the knife wound from the morgul blade still troubled him, as did the wound he recieved from shelob. he was too changed from his ordeal to find rest in middle earth.

It is to the Undying Lands that the White Ship sails at the end of The Lord of the Rings...Tolkien is careful to point out, though, that even in Aman, mortals remain mortal.

This settles it.

hmm...so mortals stay mortals...i didn't realize that...i really must re read the silmarillion.
