with the battle of Helm's Deep being the massive center piece for TTT, it can be easily assumed that the Battle of Pelennor fields will take center stage with this movie. in fact i can guarantee it will. while in the books, Helm's deep wasn't as explosive as they made it in the movie, the battle for Gondor took several chapters to reach a conclusion. In ROTK, both battle sequences are several times larger than Helm's deep. lets look at the numbers involved. for Gondor and allies, there are roughly 11,000 including the Rhohirrim at Pelennor. Sauron's forces greatly outnumber them, with thier forces numbering 45,000 or more. at the black gate, things are even more mismatched with Gondor having about 6,000 men, who are outnumbered "10 and more than 10 times". i do hope that PJ captures the scope of these two incredible battles and don't doubt that he will. after all, making those would make the child in any boy dance for joy. how well do you think he'll do?

The battle at Pelenor fields has to be the major part of the movie. The arrival of the Riders of Rohan, the despair of the citizens of Gondor when they believe no one is coming. I hope that they show a lot of scenes with Pippin and Gandalf, Merry and King Theoden. I hope that we are given all those touching and sad scenes from the book. Just from the trailers, I think we will get what we want. We will see Aragorn rise and become the true king. His will and leadership holding together the troops. I hope that we also get to see them walk the paths of the dead.

yes the paths of the dead will be in it, but from what i've seen, they have left out the rest of the dunedain.

i really hate it that they are going to leave out the dunedain rangers. i mean, these are aragorn's kin. Theodan said in the books that "if i only had an army made up of those rangers!" these guys have the fighting skills close to aragorn and are a big part of that section of the book. but i guess Peter Jackson knows best.

The battle scenes and visual effects were totally awsome in ROTK. The only part i didnt like was the fact the ghost army was actually ghost. I would have prefered it if they had turned into a real army, with real people acting it not computerised.

Was still amazing tho.

I agree with Johnny Rico about the ghost army - hoping they were alive men. We all thought that the ghosts were kind of "cheesey." When they came on the scene, I all of a sudden felt like I was watching a Disney film laden with special effects. It did underscore the beauty of how well done LOTR was done, however, in that except for the ghosts, I was sucked into all of the special effects, accepting them as real creatures and beings. It was cool, however, watching the ghosts retake the captured city with a swell.

I liked th ghost scenes compared to some of the cheesiness I already had to listen to (ie: 21, 22, 23; that only counts as 1!) Ture no one could ever hope to recreate the Paths of the Dead they way Tolkien saw it but I think PJ finally did something right with the effects for these guys.......... I loved it when they swirled around the last oliphaunt left standing, then moved on to the castle.......... anyhow I agree that it would have been nice to see something (anything) of the Dunedain, it would have been awesome to see these guys in action!! *shrug* oh well PJ knows best I guess.................... not!

Well Gimli and Legolas keeping score was part of the book. As for the dead, they had to remain dead. That was part of the book and they instilled abject terror into all who saw them. I loved the scenes in the movie.

despite the fact that pj took his writers license to them too. they never actaully came to minas tirith. all they did was freak the pants off the Corsairs of Umbar, allowing Aragorn and the Dunadain to commandeer their ships.
