I used to read tons of comics as a kid. I still read a lot, but mostly online.

I only wrote it once, but for some reason it is in two places!!??

Just foolin'....but I still haven't heard of it!

the 3 best written comics (in my humble opinion) are

1. Ultimate Spider Man (by Brian Michael Bendis)

2. Watchers ( by Alan Moore)

3. Kingdom Come ( by Alex Ross)

I would have to say:
1) Spawn
2) Any of the X-Men, (but I prefer Age of Apocalypse)
3) Any Cross-Gen! The artwork kicks a$s

which happens to be my favorites

I was never a big fan of Calvin...but I always liked Bloom County!!!

I like Calvin and Hobbes. The freakiness of Calvin always cracks me up.

I mean, he becomes a nice kids for a change, meaning, not often.

He's not supposed to be nice! He's a kid that thinks his only friend is a stuffed tiger that comes to life! Clearly crazy!

Bill Watterson never said the tiger comes to life or it is in Calvin's imagination. He deliberately kept that unclear. And I think it is quite fun.

Granted...and the boy uses his imagination pretty creatively!!!

Let's make this comics strips as well then because I did the same thing as illuminate and thought that's what it meant!
Perhaps the creator of the thread should be more specific!
I haven't a clue when it comes to comic books, but as for comic strips, I ADORE Fox Trot!

I have always been a Silver Surfer fan.

They had a new series coming out, but it got canned before it got published. Here is a pic of the new series that is not coming out.

Galacticus was an excellent bad guy.

I got to be a Surfer fan back in 93, when I bought some gum from a machine and it gave me a free Silver Surfer Chrome sticker.

I put it on my truck. After that, I got some Silver Surfer cards at the store. I have never gotten the comic, but I have read most of them online on various Surfer websites.

SS also made a lot of guest apearences in other comics.

Yes he did! I like the fact that he was originally a herald of Galactus and was actually a bad guy at first!
Galactus...the Eater of Worlds...what's cooler than that? Aside from the fact that although he is a cosmic being...he sure gets his @$$ handed to him a lot by the Fantastic Four!!!

That don't look have bad for Super Nintindo graphics. I had no idea the Surfer was popular enough to have a video game. Most people I know have never heard of him.

It's been so long since I have played it. It is sitting in my draw right now with all my other games plus the system. I use to get so scared while playing it because it has some spooky music in the background.

hahaha...scary Silver Surfer!! I actually didn't know there was a game about him either Whidden, so don't feel too badly...

To get back on topic I have many comics. They are all from different types and genres too. I have more Ren and Stimpy comics out of the rest. Then the runners up are X-men then Superman and then Spiderman.

Ren and Stimpy...hahahaha...I haven't heard about them forever! Is THAT comic still being made?

Nope. There was only something close to like 50 issues made and that’s it. I got lucky one day and came across the actual tape from Spumco (the company that made the cartoon) it had the very first episodes on it which was unedited and all. It is in a black box and the date days 2/15/93. There is even a phone number and address of the company. Awesome huh? I will never part with it...EVER

I hear ya..I have several EARLY issues of X-Men, (# 3-12) and a few issues of early Spider-Man and Hulk! I even have a few of those old comics that were really thick and like 5 cents back from the 60's!!!

I have some old Howard The Duck comics nothing too old except full newspapers from WWII talking about Stalin. They have a comic’s section and its all things like Dick Tracy and stuff. Back then the comics were terrible

I am gonna cruise over to Lv-426, and steal Chodders stuff while he is at the theater.

I just have to get that hyper-sleep stuff figured out.....

Have you ever noticed that the newer Iceman looks a lot like the Silver Surfer, only white? Just sayin'!!!

Are Y'all talking about the ice guy from the Spider man series when we were a kid. (From Stan Lee?)

Or another Ice Man? The Ice guy in the Stan Lee series looked like the Silver Surfer a little.

I have the Iceman toy. The one where you fill his board up with water then stick his feet in the water then put him in the freezer. I actually have 2 of them still in the package

Cool! Who is he fighting? Himself? It looks like his evil twin.

It's his alter ego or something like that. Good Surfer vs. Bad Surfer. They are the same person but complete opposites. Kind of like a Fight Club thing.

That happens a LOT in the comic world! Some bad guy like High Evolutionary or Apocalypse comes by...creates an Evil version of a Good guy...and BAM...a fight insues!!!

Like in Superman 10 or something like that That Russian guy who is orange with the crazy hair who is made of radioactivity electricity crap. He was in a sense Superman’s evil twin... er something dumb like that. Shows how enthusiastic I am about Superman Never been too much of a fan of him.

Call me eater of planets. Call me Devourer of Worlds. Call me Galactus. To sustain myself, I must consume the essences of heavenly bodies. It has always been so, and so it shall ever be.

My will had never been subverted before my hunger led me to a world known as Zenn-La. Its inhabitants were insignificant to me. I required the planet's energies. Whatd did I care if its people were destroyed in the process?

They were peaceful scientists who had long since fogotten how to defend themselves. And so I prepared to feed. One of their number dared approach and petition me to spare his world. He was Norrin Radd.

A bargain was struck. For my part, I did indeed spare Zenn-La. Norrin Radd agreed to serve as my cosmic agent, seeking out worlds which suited my needs. For this purpose, I willed him transformed.

Using only a portion of my might, Norrin Radd was reborn so that he might withstand the rigors of space. I remade him, modeling him on an adolescent fantasy I plucked from his mind.


Norrin Radd had surrendered his identity, his home and his love in order to save his people. He was no more. Now there was only the SILVER SURFER.

I made him into a receptacle for the ambient energies of the universe, cosmic power which he can release with devastating force. I created for him a wondrous board which obeys his every thought. My herald was one of the most powerful and unique beings in all creation.


The Silver Surfer served me well and without complaint, leading me to countless worlds that sated my hungerEventually, he brought me to a sphere that fairly teemed with the energy I so crave. A place called Earth.


There did the Silver Surfer claim he learned compassion from a human being. And there it was he sought to circumvent my will and preserve Earth from destruction, as he had once saved his own Zenn-La.

The Surfer's own might was nothing compared to that of Galactus. But with the aid of the Fantastic Four, and a doomsday weapon known as the Ultimate Nullifier, I was compelled to leave...

...though not before I stripped the Silver Surfer of his title, and placed a barrier around the Earth to maroon him there.For years her remained trapped, forever hopeful of returning to space and again soaring among the stars. In the fullness of time, he escaped his prison, I saw fit to pardon him for his past deeds, and removed the barrier forever.

Once again, my creation calls all of space his home. It is where he belongs.

To sum it up. Galactus, a being who travels the universe feeding off the energy of planets, cruises up on the planet Zenn-La.

Norrin Radd makes a deal with him to not harm the planet. Galactus turns Norrin into the Silver Surfer. His job is to find new planets for Galactus to consume. So Galatus makes him a bad a**.

Norrin worked for Galactus awhile, found some planets, but when Norrin rolled up on Earth, he betrayed Galactus and fought with the Fantasic Four against him.

Galactus got his butt handed to him and he left, but he put some kind of force field around the Earth so The Surfer was trapped on Earth forever. (He got out later of course).

Cool, but why does he choose to ride around on a silver surfboard? And why did he choose his name Silver Surfer. Was he a surfer?

Galactus was a mind reader and chose a childhood fantasy from Norrin's childhood. I guess Norrin was a Surfer when he was a teenybopper.

The Silver is part of his protection. He is a herald, or servant of Galactus, so Galactus made him very powerful.

Powerful enough to fight off enemys in Space and Powerful to stand up against the radiation, etc. in space.

Exactly! My man Widden knows his Surfer Lore!! He is no longer able to revert back to his original pshysical state! Without the Silver...Space would fock him up!

The Surfer isn't the only Herald of Galacticus.

Firelord died didn't he Whidden??? I thought StarFox killed him? Nova became good! Terrax and Morg are bad guys and I am not sure about the Air Walker!!

I know that Gabriel the Air Walker got killed by Thor. I didn't know that Firelord was killed.

Gabriel was Firelords commander, who was kidnapped. Galacticus took Gabriel and turned him into a herald.

After Thor killed Gabriel, Firelord whose name was Pyreus, tracked down Galacticus and demanded to know where his boss was. Galacticus turned Pyreus into a Herald because of his bravery.

I pick up some here and there from various websites, there appears to be gaps in the Whiddens knowledge. I wish I was rich, and could got down to Starbase 21 and by some back issues!
