Ozzy Osbourne seriously injured in accident |
| Posted by: Marc Flemming | | Ozzy Osbourne was seriously injured Monday in an accident while riding an all-terrain vehicle on the grounds of his British estate, according to Cindy Guagenti, a publicist for the heavy metal legend.
Guagenti said Osbourne underwent emergency surgery after breaking his collarbone, six ribs and a vertebra in his neck.
She said the operation was necessary to "lift the collarbone, which is believed to be resting on a major artery interrupting blood flow to his arm."
Guagenti also said doctors were attempting to stop "some bleeding into his lungs," but she said the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The accident took place on the 55-year-old rocker's Buckinghamshire property while he was taking a day off from promoting a new single he recorded with his daughter, Kelly.
Osbourne and his family star in a taped Christmas special airing on MTV Thursday.
The third season of their reality TV series "The Osbournes" debuts on the network in January.
In an article in Sunday's Los Angeles Times, the former lead singer of Black Sabbath said his unusual behavior on "The Osbournes" was the result of a 42-pill-a-day regimen prescribed by his Beverly Hills doctor, which included anti-psychotic drugs and tranquilizers.
Osbourne said he has since fired his physician.
An attorney for the doctor told the Times the allegations were false.
Osbourne's publicist said pills had nothing to do with his accident Monday.
Osbourne made headlines in his native Britain last month when he told a newspaper he had been sexually molested as a child and suffered emotional consequences for many years afterward.

Wildman rocker Ozzy Osbourne gained full consciousness Wednesday for the first time since undergoing emergency surgery -- and whispered the words "I love you" to his worried family.
The former Black Sabbath star -- who was badly injured in an ATV crash on Monday -- managed to raise a thumb of reassurance to his concerned wife Sharon Osbourne and daughter Kelly.
Ozzy had been sedated for two days following his surgery on Monday, but his family stuck by his side at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, south England -- and they were thrilled when the reality TV star awoke.
And although he made it his priority to assure talk-show host Sharon and singer Kelly that he was in good spirits, the charismatic rocker also found time to complain about the nurses -- much to his family's delight.
Kelly says, "He woke up today but he can't speak because of the tube. He's able to mouth words and he told us he loved us. He's been complaining about the nurses so we know he's all right. He gave me the thumbs-up and stuck his tongue out at me."
Kelly adds she's not "100 percent sure" how the accident happened, but believes the recreational bike hit a hole in the ground, causing Ozzy to fly off the vehicle before it landed on him.
About Ozzy's condition, medical director Dr. Dick Jack says, "He is not physically able to come off the ventilator yet. While he has got a tube in his throat he can't talk but, while awake, he has been making progress with people. His progress will be slow."
When asked if the 55-year-old former Black Sabbath front man will be able to speak once the tube has been removed, Jack responded, "We don't know."

ALICE Cooper boobed when he tried to send his pal Ozzy Osbourne a get well pressie following his quad bike crash earlier this week.
He tells us: "As soon as I heard the news, I sent a card and a bunch of flowers to his house in Los Angeles. I didn't realise the accident had happened over here." Doh!
The make-up wearing, golf-loving rocker later ordered a new package sent to Ozzy - who is recovering in Wexham Park Hospital in Slough - with the message: "Next time let me do the driving." | | Reply To this Message

The 55-year-old singer is now able to breathe unaided, after falling off the bike at his English estate in Buckinghamshire, South England -- which left him with six broken ribs and a cracked vertebra in his neck.
Ozzy is now also able to speak again. | | Reply To this Message

Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has been taken out of intensive care and moved to a private clinic, following his quad bike crash two weeks ago.
The singer was placed on a ventilator at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, England after breaking six ribs, a collarbone and a neck vertebra.
The 55-year-old has now been transferred to a private clinic to continue his recovery, which is likely to take around six months in total.
A spokesperson says, "Ozzy is progressing well but is still recuperating from his accident two weeks ago."
A statement from the Osbourne family says, "The Osbourne family are very happy that Ozzy has been allowed out of the Intensive Care Unit for Christmas and would like to thank everyone for their kind support, well wishes and prayers.

The British hospital where Ozzy Osbourne recovered from his horrific quad bike accident injuries is naming a new operating theatre in his honor.
Last month, the former Black Sabbath frontman was rushed to Berkshire's Wexham Park Hospital after breaking six ribs, a collarbone and a neck vertebra in the accident on his nearby English country estate.
To show their gratitude for his treatment there, Ozzy and wife Sharon donated the proceeds from their recent interview in Britain's Hello! magazine to the hospital.
Sharon says, "They did an amazing job on making my husband well again and he wanted to pay back. And they're now going to be having an operating theatre which they're going to call, 'The Operating Room Ozzy Osbourne.'
"All the money from these silly pictures, which are just so frivolous, so silly, is actually going to do some real good. And he's gonna have a big operating room in his name, so we're very happy." | | Reply To this Message

Rock wildman Ozzy Osbourne has begged wife Sharon to have another child with him, after cheating death in December's horrific quad bike crash.
The former Black Sabbath star, 55, was so thankful that he had survived the terrible accident, he told his talk show host wife they should add to their brood.
But Sharon, 51 -- who is also his manager -- is concerned that they are too old to have kids anymore.
She says, "Two nights ago he was on about having another baby. That's all Ozzy is talking about at the moment. He was saying, 'Let's have one more.'
"I'm not so sure. We'd end up being geriatric parents. I'd rather have another dog. But we'll see."
The couple, who have been married since 1982, already have three children together -- Aimee, 21, Kelly, 19, and Jack, 18. | | Reply To this Message
