Anyone here dance? I'm studying Middle Eastern / Belly Dance. I'd be interested in opening discussions with other dancers. Maybe if there is a enough interest, we can get a forum of our own, then have sub forums for the different styles of dance.

I would also like to learn ballroom dancing.

I dance!!!! I love it, I have never formally studied anything for a long time, but I will take a few lessons in everything and take something away from there.

I have done tap, calssical, ballet, jazz, modern, folk-dance, bootscooting, ballroom, everything and anything. I did a couple of classes in belly dancinga nd it is definately much harder than it looks.

Kooka, can you do that gross thing where you make your belly move so it looks like waves/ water? I tried, and failed. lol.

Gross? It's very cool in a dance sequence, and yes I can do it. It takes a whole lot of practice. I learned each difficult move by doing "isolations" over and over and over again. When I learn a move, I don't try to put it in a dance, but rather, I do it by itself until it becomes a natural feeling.

I'm learning Zills now. I would like to learn the Dumbek (spelling?) but good grief I have to work on rythem! The song I'm writing has a flute peice, cool rythem you get when you put rice in a Pringles can and shake it, and some thunder sounds. I'm going to learn all the instruments so I can record the music, then dance to it.

I'm glad someone here dances too. Do you make your own costumes?

I am a dancer. Not professionally, but at one point in my life I considered it. I'm too short. I have studied ballet, jazz, modern, baton, belly dance, hula, and salsa.

They're small symbols you put on your fingers.

I never got that far in my training. I only studied for a few months. I used to hate practicing isolations but they helped my abs look great. I felt so sexy when I was belly dancing. It's hard though. I love shimmies. I have the type of body that looks good when you shimmy.

Well I had that dream too, I wanted to be a back-up dancer for janet jackson then later for britney spears. I had big plans, Ii studied dance was top of my class for two years and wanted to go to the Acadamy of Performing Arts here, but I had some problems and dropped out of school instead.

Don't let your dream die lil neo, I let mine fly away and there is not a day goes past i don't wonder "what if ....". Follow your dreams wherever they take you and always try your hardest, so you can at least say you tried, which is more than I can say for myself.

I hope you can make it work.

Sorry if i sound like Dr Phil .....

heeeey everyone. yay, something i can talk about. i really wanna be a singer. i`m 14 and live in canada. my godmother actually has a few CDs out, i have one of them. her name`s tanya mass. if you live in canada, check out some of the places where they would sell cd`s that aren`t really on a label... because she isn`t on a label, she only has a producer that helps her record her music. she`s really good at singing. i`m also a songwriter too, but probably only teens and a younger audience would like my stuff lol. =P OH! if anybody has any connections or needs an act or something here in toronto ((lol)), let me know. =D

You got a good amount of skill, keep at it. Also pay attention to what you learn in your books in school, it's like everything else you have to practice at the fundementals. Make yourself aware with everything else that is going on.

I'm considering starting tap lessons. Can anyone tell me about it. Is it hard?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: schmiggens

I loved tap, even though I had a horrible teacher, so if I had had a great teacher it would've been awesome. I'd say starts, just do a small course to see if you like it, but I think you would, there is something excellent about being abel to dance and make music with your body (feet).

I loved it.

I really want to be a jazz singer. I'm 18, and tried to get into the best jazz uni course in Melbourne last year. Didn't get in, but i'm doing another course that I like. Though that doesn't mean I'm going to give up on my dream to sing. Just got to get my foot in the door, you know?

Belly Dancers Create World Record

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40963000/jpg/_40963318_bellydancer203.jpg
Belly dancers from across the world took part in the event

Belly dancers in Scotland have shaken their way to a new world record.

A group of 134 dancers from across the world converged on Nairn where their five-minute routine gave them an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

The event was the brainchild of local councillor and keen belly dancer Liz MacDonald, 43, who sent DVDs of the routine to a variety of groups.

She said: "It was fantastic. We were all in our sparkly belly dancing costumes so it was really colourful."

Special reception

She added: "There wasn't a record for the largest number of belly dancers performing a routine, so we contacted the Guinness Book of Records and they accepted it as a challenge.

"I'm just delighted so many people came along and helped us set a new record. Everyone did really well."

After shaking their stuff, the belly dancers enjoyed a special reception, which included performances from musicians from Turkey, Lebanon and Italy.

As well as setting a new record, the group also raised more than £1,000 for a local charity which helps disabled people take part in sports.

That sounds cool. I can't believe there wasn't a record already though, that's apretty one to organise I would think so you'd have thought someone would've done it already. It certainly would've been quite a sight!
