HE has sold 10million albums and is one of Britain's most successful pop artists.
But while singing sensation Craig David lives in multi-millionaire luxury, his father is scraping by as a £15,000-a-year carpenter.
The star, worth a reported £10million, owns a plush home in London's exclusive Hampstead and has bought his mother Tina a luxury house in his native Southampton.
However, his dad George has to make do with renting a tiny £60-a-week attic bedsit.
We tracked down George, who spent several years unemployed before finding a job last June, and asked why he seemed to be receiving no financial help from his superstar son.
But he insisted: "Craig and I have a good relationship.
"So what if I've been on benefits? It's nothing to be ashamed of. Anyway, I'm earning my living now.
"I have my profession. I don't do interviews."
Former musician George, who is originally from Grenada in the Caribbean, and now gets £300 a week as a chippie, was unable to say when he last saw multi-millionaire Craig.
And when asked why he had been staying in a bedsit in Southampton while Craig's mother lived in luxury, he claimed that his tiny flat was a recording studio.
George said: "I go there to spend time alone and to think about my music."
Craig, 22, has always sung the praises of his mother, Tina, in interviews and told how she supported him as he struggled to get recognised for his musical talent.
But whenever he has been asked about his father, he rarely comments.
Neighbours of George say he is a lovely man but rarely talks about his family.
One said: "George always says hello and is a real gentleman. We don't see him here very often as he works hard and is coming and going.
"But it is very sad because he doesn't seem to have any family - a surprise as he is such a lovely man.
He never has them round and never talks about them."
Craig was eight when his parents split up, and he says of his childhood: "I try to think of memories of our time together, of us living as a family - a point at which I could have said 'We are a family'.
"But all I can see is me living with my mum and meeting my dad on a Sunday. That's all I can see."
Of his mum, he says: "She's really, really proud of me. To see her son going out there and achieving is fantastic for her." It was just over two years ago when Craig hit the big time after singing on the hit Rewind with Artful Dodger. The singer soon had two number ones under his belt - Fill Me In and Seven Days.
Craig's debut album, Born To Do It, sold over seven million copies and he was hailed as one of Britain's most successful black artists.
The singer, who grew up in a tiny flat with his mother on the run-down Holyrood estate in Southampton, quickly rewarded his mum for her support. Tina moved into a plush house in an upmarket area of the city and was given a trendy Peugeot 206 car by her son.
Meanwhile, George was still trying to scrape by - and couldn't even find work. The builder's assistant was unemployed for several years, just as Craig hit the big time, until he finally found himself a job last summer. He is now working just streets away from the luxury home his son has bought for his mother.
And while she is reaping the rewards of Craig's success, George spends time in his bedsit.
Craig has his dad to thank for his musical talent - George was once a bass guitarist with the group The Ebony Rockers who used to play around Southampton in the 80s.
Craig once said: "My father was always taking me to rehearsals and gigs as my mum was out at work."
Oh that's a sad story... Well, I guess we don't know what the deal is, but it sounds like CD tried to help his dad, but he doesn't want none of it... well, that could be seen in a few ways either he's jealous or too proud, or he just doesn't want to take advantage of his son... interesting though.
Or maybe CD just hates his pop
On an off note, I saw Craig David in concert just... 2 months ago... wasn't bad, had a live band, which was awesome.
Showing that maybe Craig does care about family ...
Craig David Spends Big On Mom For Christmas
The Sunday Mirror reports Craig David, who always sings his mother's praises, was spotted spending more than $18,000 on Cartier jewellery for her Christmas present in London.
R&B crooner CRAIG DAVID is set to shock fans with his third album - he's gone hip-hop.
The British chart-star has recruited rap producer TIMBALAND - who has previously worked with MISSY ELLIOTT and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - to give the LP a new sound.
According to reports, the pair have already finished the disc, which is expected to hit shops in the summer (04).
That'd be alright... got a shock at first, but I doubt he's gonna be rapping all the way through the album... just include a Timbaland vibe. The guy's already sold me on his music, so I'll just buy it and see how I go.
I imagine it would be like a J-Lo album with Craig David singing his bits and then a rapper rapping other bits. I don't think Craig David can even rap, can he?
He has such a sweet voice, it would be too wierd to hear him rapping and I hope he doesn't start cussing all over the place and calling everyone hoes and pimps, etc. That would just be a cop out.
He tries to... on his last album he did a couple of raps, which weren't bad, but he should just stick to singing.
I don't think Timbaland is the type to make CD sing about pimpin hoes (i stuck your two examples together ) - he did a lot of work with Aaliyah and Ginuwine (and even Boyz II Men), and they never really sung about that kind've stuff... I think it'd be a safe bet.
I wouldn't like his songs to be like too much like J-Lo's too pop-ish.
HE'S rarely seen partying till the early hours - which may explain why millionaire Craig David left London nightclub Cirque without paying his bill.
The 23-year-old went to the Sintillate party on Sunday after dinner with girlfriend Roxy Ingram at The Ivy.
He was about to leave at around 2am when Dane Bowers rocked up and persuaded him to stay.
The pair opened bar tabs in the VIP room and downed several Kamikazes but, while Dane settled up, Craig left without a thought for who was going to pay.
A club source said: "The drinks he and Dane had came to £200. Dane paid most of it but there was £50 outstanding, which were the drinks Craig had before Dane came. One of his aides called the next day and offered to pay but we let him have the drinks on the house."
One of his aides called the next day and offered to pay but we let him have the drinks on the house."
Why? He is rolling in money and you give him free drinks. If some poor bum dying of thirst came in off the street and asked you for a glass of water, you probably wouldn't piss on him.
Celebrity's get it all, even when they SERIOUSLY don't need it.
