This dialogue makes me cry because the first time I ever heard it I was in bad place in my life and feeling sorry for myself. I felt Frodo's pain, and Gandalf's words really related to my personal struggle. It gave me a new perspective. It's amazing how a movie can touch so many people in so many ways

Frodo:I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

Gandalf:So do all who have lived to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.

There are many wonderful lines from the book as well as themes. One of my favorites
Gandalf:Let us remember that a traitor may betray himself and do good that he does not intend."

That's a good one too. Which part is that from?

It is from a scene where Gandalf is talking to Pipin in Godor. Faramir has just returned and told them that he saw Frodo, Sam and Gollum. I believe it is from the Siege of Gondor.

i think the saddest part isn't a quote. it actually a description. it shows gollum as he truly is. old and pitiable. its in the last part of the Stair of Cirith Ungol i beleive.

My favourite line from the trilogy comes near the end of the Two Towers. It's when Sam is talking to Frodo about stories....

Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened?
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam: There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
