I would like to understand Hannukah better.

I will ask my Jewish friend for the correct story, but as I understand it, the Jews were under siege. They had only enough oil to burn for 1 night, but it lasted for 8. So, that is why they light one candle in the menorah each night during Hanukkah to celebrate the miracle. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
