Guess who was first offered the part of Aragorn? |
| Posted by: fuscia | | I just read in a Time magazine report that Russel Crowe was offered the part of Aragorn. Wow. That would have ruined it for me. I wonder what everyone else thinks. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Lawless | | I would NOT have seen the movie had he been cast in that part.
I'm sorry... but he is absolutely repulsive to me, and the movie would have been ruined!
Damn child chasing, any woman in a skirt, bad acting jerk!!!!
Nope... I don't like him, in case you're still wondering! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Russell would have made a horrible Aragorn. Vigo was perfect for the part. Quiet Dignity. I also do not think Mr. Crowe had the right body type either. He is not long or lean enough to be our ranger. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Lawless | | Oh god... lean? He's a stubby, ugly man!!!
Viggo was awesome as Aragorn Love him all the more! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: LOTRROX2 | | no no no russel crow is a fat idiot and i'm glad vigo was picked for the spot | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Well, not all of us are Russell fans, that is true. He just did not have the look for Aragorn as far as I am concerned. Vigo just looked the part and did a fantastic job with the role. Who wouldn't want to give up elf immortality to be with him. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: matrix_fan_07 | | I READ IN A BIOGRAPHY ON KEANU REEVES THAT HE WAS FIRST GIVEN THE PART, BUT THAT WAS ONLY A WEEK AFTER HIS WIFE AND DAUGHTER DIED, SO HE DIDNT TAKE THE PART..... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: adityamahesh | | Well, nothing on his personal loss, but I doubt Keanu Reeves would have made a good Aragorn anyway. He is not too good with facial expressions, and will almost always be associated with Neo due to the almost legendary status achieved by the movie, which would make people hard to digest his role as Aragorn. When I went to the wax museum in San Fransisco, (I know it's not the best wax museum) they had his wax replica in a Neo outfit. So... no, Keanu Reeves would not have made a good Aragorn.
p.s. Matrix fan, please do not type in caps, it is considered shouting in netiquette. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | What? I don't remember anything about Keanu being married or a father... and losing them either!!!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | I read the books several years ago before the movies came out. When I was reading the books I pictured Aragorn in my head. The picture in my head closely resembles Viggo. It's almost creapy. | | Reply To this Message

Me too Heather.
Keanu Reeves as Aragorn. Now that would have kept me away from the movies. I can't stand him as an actor. I think he is so ugly and I hate his voice. I guess I will have to put him on my ban list.

| Posted by: adityamahesh | | Oh man, you find him ugly? I think you should come share your views with us in the Matrix forum, where we have a thread going on about whom would you want to sleep with, Neo or Morpheus. It is obviously titled, 'Neo or Morpheus'. I am sure you would create quite a stir with you views!!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Oh no. I am not going in there. I did not see the movie and don't want to ruffle any more feathers. Keanu is just not my type and would not have made a good Aragorn. He is not rugged enough. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Sayzak | | I'm a matrix lover, obviousely, being a mod for the matrix forum... But I don't take offense to anything in here! I'd like to catch this keanu bio that apparantly holds this information about his wife and child dying...
Can you believe Keanu is 39 years old? He still looks, sounds, and acts, in a way, like he's 19. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: gaboman | | From everything I ever knew it was his girlfriend who died, about a year or so before he started filming the Matrix... so that bio would, indeed, be interesting.
PS. Yes, he wouldn't have been good for Aragorn... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | I like Keanu in all the movies he's ever been in, but I don't see him as Aragorn. Viggo is perfect for the part. He is so moody and dark. | | Reply To this Message

"Lord of the Rings" star Viggo Mortensen is finding it difficult to say goodbye to his character Aragorn as the acclaimed trilogy draws to an end.
The hunky actor is currently on the promotional trail for final installment, "The Return of the King," and is hoping to take something away with him from the experience.
He says, "Some people say, 'Oh, I didn't have any problem shedding this character,' as if it were the thing to do -- to get rid of it: Life is short and we're all going to end up senile.
"Why make an effort to forget something that has been important in your life? Yes, I won't be dressing up as Aragorn and running into battle any more but, in my mind, I will keep going into battle about the things I've learned.
"The story itself reminds you that it's important to examine yourself, that it's healthy to have a little bit of doubt, to know that what you do and what you say has an effect on others. That group ethos will stay with me." | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: snunka | | I think Viggo is good at playing Aragorn.
I do not really like russel crowe, but i have to admit that he is one hell of an actor. He can get into a role so well, kinda like brad pitt. I honestly think that if russel woulda done we would not be dissapointed.
Have you seen the insider? | | Reply To this Message

I admit Brad Pitt is a good actor, but when I read he's going to play Achilles in the oncoming Troy movie -- nooo, he is no Achilles, sorry.
Orlando will make a good Paris, though.
Ah, and they cast Sean Bean (Boromir) as Odysseus.
Viggo does well as Aragorn, I agree on that. It is strange, I envisioned him a bit different when I read the book, but yet, he comes out fine. As does David Wenham as Faramir - now, Faramir is described as dark-haired in the book, and I like dark-haired men with a pale complexion, but when I saw David I suddenly thought a red-haired Faramir wasn't bad, either.

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | Aragorn had to be played by a relatively unknown actor. A big blockbuster star like Russel Crowe or Brad Pitt would have overshadowed Elijah Wood, who is the real star. Not to mention, remember when the hobbits were in Bree. "Strider" was so mysterious. Russel and Brad aren't mysterious. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | The viewers would've been like there's The big star. He must be the hero of the story. With Viggo we weren't too sure. | | Reply To this Message

Viggo has been in many movies before LOTR. He has just never been given the credit he deserves. He played the boyfriend in A Perfect Murder (David Shaw) and many other roles. I think he has been in over 30 movies now. If you are a Viggo fan, you should definitely see A Walk on the Moon! WOW!

| Posted by: Zionian | | Viggo was great in GI Jane. If you don't know that movie or his role in it, you should check it out. He walked, talked, and acted just like a SEAL. Now Demi on the hand... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Zionian... I loved that movie... and Viggio was everything that you love to hate about his character. He played that part so well that I felt real hate toward him (his character that is).
Have you seen the movie "28 Days." Viggio was a hoot in that movie, playing a baseball player that was in the rehab with Sandra Bullock, and he has a problem with being a sex addict as well. Too funny....
Viggio is a great actor... and because of LotR, and how famous he is now, I think that we will see him in a lot more movies, as a lead character. I can't wait for Hildalgo to come out. It looks like a good movie.... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: mfzz3 | | Orlando Bloom?? Please. All of you must have seen this by will. My sister dragged me to the TV, stuck it in the VCR, hit play, held me down and made me watch it; yelling at me when I made any smart-ass comments. To this day she regrets doing that. Now she has an obssessed freak for a sibling... ^_^ | | Reply To this Message
