For the last movie, what do you really want to see portrayed? I want to see the relationship between Merry and King Theoden. I found it so touching in the book and I want to see that love there in the film. I also want to see the scenes with fight on the fields of Gondor done right. The emotion and the loss, Merry going to the City. Your thoughts?

The ride of the Grey Company... I want to see that whole part.

When they are in the mountain... path of the dead.

It's in theatres on Wed, Dec 17th. I guess that we can't see it together.. because Heidi and I leave Fri the 19th for San Fran for the holidays. Oh well... we will talk about it when we get home the following weekend!!!

We don't get it until Boxing Day damn you!!!!!

I am looking forward to the Path of the Dead. It would be good if they could put it all in, but we all know that is not possible.

I am looking forward to Merry and Pippin returning to the Shire as heroes after they grow big and strong from Entdraught. But Entdraught was never mentioned in the other movies, so who knows how they will do it.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Well... they showed it in the deleted scenes in the extended version!!
So, who knows... and if it's not in the movie when it hit's the theatres, maybe it will be in the extended dvd when that comes out.
I heard that this third film is longer than the other two... even the theatre version! Can't wait.

I heard that this one will be the longest too, someone said nearly three and a half hours, but that seems too much even for these guys.

If they had put Shelob in the 2nd movie where she belonged, we wouldn't have this problem.

Reply To this Message

I know. I wish shelob was in TTT also. It would have been a great cliff-hanger to have Frodo "dead" right at the end of the movie. I hope they do a good job with that scene in the last movie!

Isn't Shelob the spider?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

Yes. I think they should have done what jbone03 said and ended TT with us thinking that he is dead, but like the book, have Sam find out that he is alive. It would have been great.

I don't understand why so much was changed!!!

Now, they are going through that area in the RotK... so, will Shelob be in this one? Will they include the betrayel of Gollum?

I agree Larke. Sam's love for that pony was very touching and that the pony thrived under those conditions tells a wonderful tale on its own.

Have you seen the LOTR 10 minute teaser on the Extended LOTR Two Towers? Oh, that's nice.
From what I understand from the interviews - Shelob will be in this one, and The two Towers the book version, ends with Gandalf and the others Riding to Isengard (hope that's spelled right), and peter is going to start the third one out that way.

in killer news - I ordered the special Gollum statue, only 7500 in the world, and i received it today, and it is signed by the artist, peter jackson AND Andy (the actor who played gollum)
And each one was hand painted and hand created O.O
I thought that was pretty cool.
ANYWAYS, I cannot wait for midnight, December 16th!

congrats on the statue. i can't wait to see shelob. i bet she really looks ugly. i wonder if she drools in the movie. and how big they fashion her. being the arachniphobe that i am, i hope she's ugly enough to give me nightmares for weeks.

i've heard that RoTK does show gandalf and company ride to isengard in the beginning, but after

[something i've read but not verified so it might not be a *SPOILER* below. but if you've read the books you'll know what i'm talking about.]

...a short flashback to smeagol and deagol. we might get to see deagol find the ring and his subsequent murder when smeagol takes it from him. as well as smeagol's transformation into gollum. we might see andy serkis as himself playing smeagol with no cgi. but like i said, i've only read this somewhere. i don't know if it's true. but it is a scene i'd like to see. and i haven't been here in the LoTR forum much lately so i'm sorry if this has been posted already.

I hope they do put the Gollum stuff in like u said, that would be cool.

I too missed Bill the Pony Larke. It is the smaller details like that, that made the book so good. I miss the small details in the movies.

Just a quick note... do you not think that you are going to get your hopes up? By reading the book first... everyone knows that
very rarely does a movie live up to the expectations of the book.
I mean sure... I cheated, and I know how it all goes down (for the most part) with Shebol and the end at Mount Doom... but I am not going to get my hopes up that the directors actually thought of their patrons and decided to include all the stuff that WE know would make it a better movie. If that was the case, they would send out polls asking US how they should make their next movie.

i think it's a good idea to have read the books before seeing the films. some who haven't read the books can easily find themselves a bit overwhelmed at first, which can turn them off of the story even with the utterly amazing visual representation. i know several people who have seen the movies without reading the books and it took quite a bit of warming up to them. i have yet to talk to someone (face to face) that has been disappointed in how the books have portrayed Tolkien's masterpiece. so i would highly recommend reading the books first. of course if you haven't read them, i strongly suggest you not try and start today your reading of the entire book trilogy and try to finish in time for The Return of the King debut.

Reply To this Message

Well said Larke. I absolutely love Tolkiens works. I do think reading the books helps. I personally was very pleased with the movies. I did not care for the expanded Arwen part. My husband thinks she got a bigger role to draw in the teenage boys. He may have a point.

Sex sells! Isn't that how the saying goes? And Liv Tyler is a pretty good looking elf-lady! Not to sound geeky, but I have always been into the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books, so I like the fantasy that the LOTR series introduces into Cinema.
I don't usually like reading the Novel before a movie... but in these types of cases... it is hard to resist. I mean in a trilogy where the movies are so far apart, you keep asking yourself...but then what? So, sometimes it isn't all bad when you read before watching! Just don't get too upset if it doesn't fit. Directors are professionals when it comes to letting down the public just because they didn't think it fit, or that it needed a change!

the whole expanded arwen role actually is in the appenidx of the book. yes i am a tolkein nerd. but anyway...the precioussss...oopss....uh..
oh yeah...the witch king of angmar...bwahahahaha...sorry i have an affinity for dark scary characters that kill/psyche out poeple with ease.
i think the most anticlimactic part of the book is when gandalf and the witch king are about to duke it out..but then stuff happens (i won't spoil it for ya'll by telling what) so they don't.
but on the LOTR website they got an interview with Sean Astin (samwise) who says that PJ put alot of work into Shelob, because tolkein put a fair amount in the book about this fairly minor character.

Well, it's not that I am worried that they will leave something out ... as I have said before, leave stuff out if you have to, but just don't add something in that wasn't there before. I am glad that they are going to put the effort into it.

They just have to put something about the history of Numenor and the West World in it. And the whole thing about elves leaving Midlle Earth, splitting with humans... somehow putting the story of Aragorn and Arwen in the middle of it all. No, actually a new film should be made for that solely! I like that parallel of the story probably even more than the action and magic and funny little hobits.
Hey a great forum by the way. I wish i saw it earlier...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

I just did not care for the expanded role of Arwen. Yes, I have read all the appendices. I did not like that they had HER be the one to rescue Frodo at the Ford in the first movie. I understand that they need to tell the love story, but a warrior type elf, she was not.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Who saved Frodo at the Ford in the book? I forget.

Reply To this Message

One of the elves from Rivendell, i think.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: TearUUp

I agree with the Love story needing to pan off for a whole other movie! Sure they have to throw it in, it is in the book! But, it sort of draws away from the action. I guess they also put it in for empathy towards the people who don't like these types of movies (not to sound sexist, but that IS usually females) so that there is something of interest for them too?
I'm out!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I don't like when movie makers change the story. They have to stay true to the author. If Arwen didn't save Frodo in the book, then she shouldn't have saved him in the movie. I think Peter Jackson did a great job on the movies but he should've honored Tolkien by staying with his version of the story.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: TearUUp

Hey Heather, I totally agree with you! I think I've complained about that on other threads with Gaboman! It's okay if you have to leave stuff out... but don't put s#$t in there that wasn't there before!

Exactly, I understand for time reasons deleting some parts, but changing things is not right. If they want to get creative, then write their own story.

Reply To this Message

Well, switch to the category it belongs. If you think that it doesn't belong to any category, put it in the general discussion forum. Or if you are trying to take out your anger on someone, put it in the flamers ward. Basically explore the website and decide which forum is most suitable.
