Have fun in here, people!

Share your favorites, and don't be shy! I expect this thread to really get HUGE, because there are so many tv shows to talk about.

I'll get this avalanche started with ten...

Knight Rider
Starman (the series)
A-Team
Three's Company
Wonder Woman (yeah, it's cheesy NOW, but back then I loved it)
Airwolf
Cosby Show
Transformers
Hardcastle & McCormick
The Scarecrow and Mrs. King

I could EASILY go on, but I want others to contribute, so go ahead!

Oh man... soooooooooooo many shows!! I'm not sure where to begin. I think that I will do this when I get home from work in a little bit!!! But, GREAT topic, Sierradaddy!

*St. Elsewhere- so moving and so creative.
*The Cosby Show-just good old fun!
*The Waltons-great show in the 70's.

I love this thread! I will let others post some then chime back in soon.

I knew YOU'D love it, KJ! In fact, I almost referred to you directly in my first post here, figuring since you're SO FAST, you'd be the first to post a reply!

(Must be my precognitive abilities! )

Ok, 5 more, and I'm going to try to be obscure as best as I can...

Automan
NightHawk
Space: Above and Beyond
Kindred: The Embraced
Whiz Kids

Edit: fuscia, you slipped one in while I was adding this post; glad you like it too. I thought you'd be an early visitor as well!

Yeah well, we Mods are everywhere.

I have never heard of any of those 5. Hmm, must have been because we did not have cable available until the very late 80's.

*Dallas-yes it was a bit cheesy, but I still liked it.
*Family Ties

Automan and Whiz Kids were early 80's, Nighthawk was mid-80's (an attempt to develop a show similar to Knight Rider or Airwolf...). The other 2; Space: Above and Beyond and Kindred: The Embraced, were 90's...

Edit: Just to clarify for those who don't know, Automan was about someone who controlled a computer cursor, and that cursor could produce a car (think it was a lamborghini countach), helicopter, etc...

NightHawk was basically a combination of Airwolf and Knight Rider, but the vehicle used was a streetbike. Frank fontaine from Murphy Brown got his start (in my books, anyway...) from that show, as the technician who kept the bike working...

Whiz Kids was about a bunch of computer nerds, and their adventures.

Space: A & B was about soldiers battling aliens and androids. The effects were great, and the storyline was really enjoyable. It remains my younger sister's all-time favorite.

Kindred: is just about the BEST vampire saga ever put on television. Far better than Buffy or Angel, it looked at the lifestyle and struggles of mainly two clans of vampire that have been at each other's throats (pun intended...) for centuries...

Oh RainBOW! I must have been living in a cave or something.

*Saturday Night Live! I loved the original cast with Gilda and Bill Murray. I loved Lisa and Todd.

Being more a product of the nineties then anything else, most of the ones above I have seen only as repeats and stuff.

I really liked the 90210, Melrose Place type shows, so much drama, but somehow seemed more realistic than Days of Our Lives, etc.

Hehe!...

I figured you would've put in Trapper John, M.D.! Or The Littlest Hobo!! Maybe even Fantasy Island!! I just had a feeling you were going to go for some of the good ones, like Silver Spoons!!

It's weird; I can remember SO MANY shows from the 80's onward, and some of the ones that were in syndication from the 70's that aired in the 80's... I would be so thrilled if they could offer those shows on DVD!! They've GOT to be putting the Cosby Show on DVD... I can't WAIT to get something like that...

Yes, I think that there are A LOT of shows from the 70's and 80's that they could put out on dvd and people would buy them. Those were the best shows ever.

Oh, I wasn't in to Trapper John, M.D.
I did watch Fantasy Island though... good show!!

OMG, OUR HOUSE!!!

That's where my brother's love of Shannon Doherty got it's start, and where I first met Wilfred Brimley. Bosom Buddies; who could forget Peter Scolari and Tom Hanks dressing up as women!! Moonlighting connected me to Bruce Willis, but I never really liked the female lead, whose name escapes me at the moment... Oh, Cybil Shepherd... And one of my personal favorites, whose theme song is still kicking around in my head to this day: Greatest American Hero! I used to dream about what it would be like to find a suit like that and have all those powers... I used to jump into my parents' couch at the part in the opening sequence where he flies into a billboard!

I still watch the Golden Girls on cable. I loved Bosom Buddies. Kip was so in love with Sunny Sunny Sunny.

My favorite 70's show was Laverne and Shirley. I loved Lenny and Squiggy. They were so funny. I loved the shows when they would sing. They did a Christmas song about Christmas Eve at the Poorhouse. It was a riot.

Fuscia,
Farscape got canceled after the third season. It was a blow to the Whidden family. We loved that show.

They ended it on a cliff hanger. However, they just announced on SciFi.com this week that they are making a Farscape mini-series to wrap up the show and tie up the loose ends.

No word as yet to which station it will air on. (Even though SciFi posted the message.) Jim Henson inc. is making the show, then will try to sell it to a station.

Did anyone say Fraggle Rock yet?

I didn't catch on to Farscape. It seemed too reminiscent of Buck Rogers to me, so I never fell into it...

I forgot to mention Star Trek TNG, or Voyager. I once liked DS9, but lost interest after a while. When the Dominion storyline came up, I got back into it briefly, but I have to say, I cannot STAND Major Kira... She disgusts me... And I didn't too much like the replacement Trill for Dax either, but then I didn't enjoy the original that greatly for that matter... I liked Captain Sisco, but I found the show to be going nowhere, literally, for too long...

Hey, I learned how to swim from Little House on the Prairie... In the episode where Laura's young boy friend falls out of a tree and into a pond, he's coached by Michael Landon's character. That coaching is what I used to learn how to swim! By the way, that boy ended up starring in one of my faves from the 80's: The Whiz Kids.

One show that they should do a mini-series to complete is Kindred: The Embraced. That show was cancelled, unfortunately, and I would've really liked to see how they could have wrapped that one up...

Also, Space: Above and Beyond should get a mini-series to complete it's run, as it was cancelled too early...

Does anyone remember: You Can't Do That On Television
It was on the Nikelodian channel... one of their original shows!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Whidden

Sierradaddy,

Yeah, Major Kira was messed up. I liked the show anyway. Me and the wife used to grimace when Odo and Kira started kissing.

That has to be the worst pair up in the history of television.....a butt ugly shape shifter and a cranky butch Bejoran. Ughhhhhhhhh!

I got into the show once Worf came on board.

The thing I loved about Little House on the Prarie was it was uplifting.
Even with someone going blind, or the horse having to be put down or the crop getting wiped out from a hail storm or the barn burning or the kid dying from some desease..........it somehow was positive and uplifting. Go figure!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sierradaddy

Wow...

Somehow, I usually gravitated to seeing things from that show the other way...

For me, even the starting of the show, with laura running down the hill (or maybe that was the ending...) seemed kinda depressing somehow... With the older daughter being blind, I felt bad for her, and it caused me to walk around my apartment with myy eyes closed, trying to imagine how terrible her world must've been if she were a real person. That was around the time I first heard of Helen Keller, which made it even worse...

I totally agree with Kira and Odo... That was the epitome of horrific coupling...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Whidden

The thought of being blind does not bother me too much.

The thought of being deaf does not bother me too much.

But to be like poor Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf, I find that terrifying! That would suck.

If I was blind, I would listen to some music, go outside and hear some nature, that sort of thing. Same with the deaf, go outside and look at nature or watch a movie.

Blind and deaf, your options are shot.

Real People was kind of like a cheesy That's Incredible .

It has 3 hosts that went around and did stories on people doing funny things, or weird things, etc.

Sarah Purcell was one of the hosts. I think it did real well the first season, then fizzled.

Hell, I too thought she was hot -- and I was about 35 at the time!

Do you ever see those commercials on TV now, where the guy is doing situps and his wife/girlfriend is tempting him with a slice of bread that is buttered with Country Crock margarine? There were also some other commercials for this same product, using these same people/voices, just different situations. Do you know the ones I'm talking about? You never see the actors' faces, only their hands and the margarine product. The voiceovers make the sales pitch.

Well, the girl's voice sounds EXACTLY like Sarah Purcel to me! I don't know if it really is her but I swear it sounds just like her. She has a very distinctive voice and way of speaking.

Miss Bailey Quarters, ahh yes! Part of the classic conundrum about that show -- who do you want most, Jennifer or Bailey?

Basically the same question about Gilligan's Island -- who do you want most, MaryAnn or Ginger?

MaryAnn almost always wins the voting. Bailey, too.

If you drive I-35 North from the Metroplex, cross into Oklahoma and head towards OKC, you'll soon pass the Purcell Exit. It's one of the early ones, near the Arbuckles. I've driven by there a hundred times and everytime I see that sign, I think of Sarah.
