| Okay, milking a popular series of movies is nothing new (thanks Star Wars). I've seen plenty of LOTR toys, video games, t-shirts, etc.
But what makes me laugh is the DVD marketing and the fools who blow so much coin on it.
Check it: the powers that be release the LOTR movie on DVD, retails for +/- $20. On that DVD, they have an add for the 4 disc extended super duper DVD coming out later, for around $30 - $40. And they do this for each DVD. What a scam. And I know people who swoop down and bought the Fellowship DVD, then the extended DVD, same thing with the Two Tower DVD.
Sure, some people wait for the extended version, but you know they still at least rent the other version.
Let's do the math: $8 (average) for the theater (the normal LOTR fan will probably see it twice), renting (maybe) at $4, then $20 for the first DVD, $35 for the next, x 3 movies. That's way over $100 per person.
I'm not knocking the fans, but I think the DVD situation is lame.
