I accidently watched Average Joe last night when I realized that they're in my hometown of Palm Springs, CA. They were playing basketball in my old high school gym. They also went up the Aerial Tram and to the Polo Grounds. It was a trip, unexpected. The show sucks though, to be sure.

Sucks?

This show ROCKS. It is by far one of the more interesting reality shows I have ever seen. The twists, although sometimes predictable, are most excellent.

I was thinking of starting up a forum for this show, but it doesn't seem to have a very strong following.

Last week I was thinking, "POOR AVERAGE JOES..." ... this week, I kind of felt bad for the model guy (Alex?) that got kicked off the first time around despite having a date with her. He said his heart was broken. Perhaps it was more like his pride.

Great stuff!

The only reason I watched a whole episode is because it was filmed in my town. I probably won't watch it again. The premise is hardly genuine and is just another notch on the growing belt of reality shows.

I thought the whole point was to have her pick from 'average guys', although they seem to be mostly dorks. Anyway, they throw in models? Please. Change the show title then.

Now I may be bias, I totally dislike reality shows. However, the one that I did watch regularly was The Joe Schmoe Show. That was relatively original and ejoyable.

I think it would be great if they followed it up with a "Plain Jane" premise. Like bachelor to bachelorette thing. Even though I don't watch these shows, I'm sick of the fact that producers only pick good looking people. I think it's a great idea for a show.
If I'm curious about what happens on a reality show, I watch the season finale. They always do a 1 hour recap of the season and a 1 hour finale when the woman or man makes their final choice. I'd much rather watch that than commit to an entire season.

I love the idea of this show. Having to look beyond the physical is a great twist. They have a tendency to pick only beautiful people for the reality shows. Heck, I know plenty of people, mostly women, who will only date rich men. So sad.

I am with Chel. I tend to watch the series finale because I just forget or do not have time to commit to the whole season.

I don't know about the idea having plain chicks with some stud dude. Not to be crass, but guys would be more likely to take advantage of women who may think they are that physically appealing.

I think the show is coo. I been watching it on and off. I mean if I see it on ill watch it but its not one of those shows that I keep up to and watch when it comes on. I think so far my favorite reality shows are Road rules, Joe Schmoe, Survivor, and def, Paradise Hotel!

AvgJoe doesn't seem to have a huge following, but I think in general it is closer to "reality" than the other ones.

Really average guys don't usually approach the best looking woman in the room, and it's probably because they fall into a "once burned, twice shy" category.
Even though we the viewers are the slaves of editing, I still think it's interesting to see some of these guys start to actually look more and more appealing as their personalities emerge.

I think a "Plain Jane" show could also work. The trick would be finding participants who are average, healthy and confident and a guy who has some depth.

Perhaps what's needed is a show where everybody is average.

I have been one of those people that REFUSES to watch reality dating shows. But my roommate has been watching this show and I cant help but watch too. Tonights episode was by far the best! I love that Zach got voted off. I have been waiting for her to see his true side. I was rooting for both Jason and Adam and both are in the final 2! So Im hoping she will go for Adam... thatll leave Jason for me

Dang it. I missed Monday, 1 December's show. I did hear that young Michael, the empty suit ... and Zach, the guy who thought he was superior in all ways to the other guys were both eliminated.

I disliked Zack from day 1.

First, he thought he had been cast as one of the typical bachelor-buff-studs, and upon arrival was so "insulted" to be considered average. That she kept him around just long enough to put-him-in-his place is sweet come-uppance.
He didn't feel he was in the same category as the others and that's correct. The others weren't mean, arrogant bully's !

.........

Apparently Adam is pretty financially comfortable ... and the other one, Jason is a waiter ... right ? Should be interesting.

I'm liking Melanie less, and starting to think I'd like her to walk off with Jason like Barbie & Ken

That would leave Adam available to get a good shave and some diction lessons, and be the center of attention on his own show.

It could be the Plain Jane thing ... but would also be great if they brought in a real mix of bachelorettes plain and average to above average and see where it goes.

Or do we already know ?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard/seen a woman put "sense of humor" above looks on her list of most important qualities in a potential mate.

I concur - by far the best episode yet. Due to the nature of this site (multi-topic forums, some on reality shows), I feel compelled to watch more reality tv shows than the average person.

This show ROCKS! The way they manipulate the environment and people the way they do ... just very creative.

HECK - I think you'd more likely share the same sentiments if you had seen the show from the beginning and grown more attached to some of the people and personalities.

Slightly off the topic, but with regard to the color-coded comment above ... I noticed and boy, Marc ... you must have to sleep really fast

I hear you Marc, if I would have checked it from the start I might have liked it, who knows. I usually throw out a 'that sucks' without having a real qualified opinion. I guess it's habit.

I like the show myself. And true it does throw you off to have the title average joe and then here comes the above average guys. Though not fair to the guys who were there first, it does make it interesting to see who this chick will pick. The point is will looks win out over personality. I think they should do a Plain Jane show. Hell I'll be on it. I'm not the best looking person in the world but I'm not completely unfortunate looking so I might have a shot. Well see what happens.

Hey ... do it ! Suggest it to the producers and enclose your application.

the lame chick picked the better looking guy, thats all it came down too...

she is as shallow as anyone would suspect.....

she couldnt be with a guy who had it ambition, she had to be with the "hot" guy, so her friends and everyone who watched the show, wouldnt laugh at her being with the "average joe".....it is reality though...

Shallow girl chooses shallow guy.....

From a guy who knows guys on both side of the fence, I would love to know what has happened to Melana and Jason. $20 says he leaves her, and the line will be of the "it's not you, it's me" variety.

Adam was clearly the better choice, and I wonder how long before Melana tires of picking up Jason at his parent's house. She was shallow the whole show long, constantly commenting how "beautiful" Jason was. I was pulling for the "average" guy (who was anything but) to at least get chosen, but it looks like she belongs with Mr "Lay in the Pool" Jason. What drive he has!! I can tell you where he'll be in ten years; watching reruns of this show, saying "she chose ME" and wishes he was 1/10th as successful as Adam is today. She will have her pretty boy, her looks will fade (and I can tell you it won't be pretty) and she will always know, deep inside, that she had a chance at a great guy and blew it!!!

I was a jock growing up and now I work with computer geeks; I have a younger brother who was always overweight growing up but who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger. I've dated gorgeous women and not-so-gorgeous women and I'm old enough (38) to know what will happen. Melana, you screwed up. Jason, this is the peak of your life---enjoy it. Adam, you dodged a bullet---find The One and live happily ever after my friend.

Adam deserves better. It seems 90 percent of the show focused on what a great guy he is...then he gets sent home. I don't think I'll be watching the next season *yawn*.

So so sad.....what a shallow little ****. I thought for a second that she may be different but I guess I was wrong. All this show proved is that the beautiful people always win. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how rich you are, if you don't look like a super model or a movie star then you arn't **** in this world. Now how does one explane this to their children? TTFN

Denise you are looking at it as half empty; show the kids that Adam, at age 27, is a millionaire, while Jason, the 26 year old pretty boy waiter, is nothing. It shows with hard work you can make something lasting of yourself, and God will watch out for you and NOT let you get dragged to the bottom by a girl like Melana.

Pretty people are only pretty for so long, then after that fades they are left with pictures of what was. Adam's kind enjoy their WHOLE lives because they work to make something of themselves. Adam wasn't rich because of his success, he was because his whole life, friends, family, career, together made up something Jason won't be able to ever touch.

When the show ended I was sorta pissed, but in retrospect I'm more curious to watch the outpouring of women for Adam. Melana will rue the day she made her decision.....

Oh and far as the ''Plane Jane'' idea...forget about it! That will never happen. Most really ''good looking'' guys are way to selfcentered and ignorant to participate in something like that.

Deathdealer.....thank you. I didn't really think of it that way. I must admit I'm feeling a little less bitter. *snort* But you are totally right and I'm sure that due to this show there will be a slew of women after Adem.....

I would agree with you deathdealer. Shallow girl get shallow guy. 26 and he still doesn't have his stuff together. Adem was ready to start a family with her. When will Jason be ready.

I'll admit I was an ugly ducklin when I was in High school and I know haw Adem feels. But at my last reuion I was voted "Most Changed". I had girls who wouldn't give me the time of day in school come up to me and say"I just had to see who this good looking guy is". I see myself the same so I was pretty suprised. As you said, looks change, some good, some not so good. I was really pulling for Adem. I hope he finds some one that makes him as happy as Melana.

I've run into beautiful girls I was in HS with and they have changed into more average looking... my wife was average in HS and now she's a knockout.

And some of those beautiful girls I knew way back when are now totally amazed at my changes... I'm not a long-haired skinny stoner anymore. And successful (not a millionaire like Adam) too.

Feels pretty good doesn't it!!

The only downfall this is.. Guys are shallow.. And TV doesnt sit well unless there are attractive women on it. Only gender that both can agree on what is hot and what is not.

However if you take an Average Joe and Introduce him to 18 extremly attractive girls then watch as they fight over the win rather than the guy. Then do a 6month or a year follow up that could prove some morbid entertainment.

Id say us Adam, however by the time you get that cast together he will already be known to them and then how does he tell if its him or his money they are attracted to?

To bad really, Id like to see Adam again. Its a funny looking smile but not in a bad way. In the honest and sincere way.

I think this whole reality, "finding your soulmate" type shows are getting old...it's really getting annoying. good thing miss bubble gum fairy princess chose the hottie , it just shows how materialistic she and the entire show is. What a great message to the average joe tho, "Any old average guy? u wont do! You gotta be drop dead gorgeous to get a girl! " ugh....great lesson.
