ok, folks, let me know what you think.

The war is estimated to cost $50b, speculation has been that the costs will be more. I would put forth that if we take that entire amount and put it into a good incentive program for auto manufacturers and a good start, possibly completion of the infrastructure necessary for hydrogen delivery. We could have hydrogen fuel cell cars out and on the road.

Not only would we decrease the air pollution in our country drastically, but we would remove the power that most of the mideastern countries hold over us. Do you really think that they would last that long if we took away the majority of their business?

Their governments would quickly collapse with no income from us and their leaders and terrorist groups would have no funds from which to draw from, or at the very least drastically reduced funds.

Let me know what you think about this solution. I know it's unlikely due to the fact that Bush wants to prove something, but it's amazing if you think about it, how many different problems we could remove, if we were just willing to spend the money.

Now it's up to $100B, more than enough to finance a Hydrogen infrastructure.

It doesn't appear you know what this is all about.

Yes, it's about oil, or as some would surmise about Hussein's attempt on Sr. Bush's life. Or as Bush would have you believe a humanitarian effort to give the people of IRAQ democracy.

I'm merely saying that this could all be solved if we did away with the major contributor to our need for oil. That being Gas guzzling cars. The fact is that the only reason any middle east countries have power is because they control the oil. If oil was useless and an inefficient power source, then there would be no need to pump it, and thus no need to have to bend to the wills or worry about the policies of middle eastern countries.

Maybe in the future if you're going to respond, you could expound upon what you say and actually give a reason as to why you might think that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Its a good idea. But unfortunately too late for this conflict. But if we started now with a real effort to make the technology viable, I believe we could be there in the next decade.

We should certainly be ready to handle short term crises, but at the same time have a long term strategic goal that reduces our dependence.

Your heart is in the right place!

We have placed billions into that funding for future transportation.

Sure it's about oil if you wish to go through the propaganda- that's not what I believe.
We could have obtained oil in a much simpler manner and the world knows it. We could have pulled the strings for that.
Have you seen the Iraqi's bouncing around for American liberation?
That's why we are there.
Sure, not all will feel this way but many more will.

There's no way in hell we're going to get a hydrogen infrastructure for a measley $100B - Believe me, I've reasearched this and other alternative fuel systems for a couple years now and the costs are astronomical. Those costs have to be slashed incredibly in order for this to become feasible. The minute infrastructure becomes feasible, it becomes a solid market for Detroit to jump all over - there's nothing new about hydrogen-burning Internal Combustion Engines.. nor even electric fuel-cell alternatives - it's the infrastructure that holds it all back.

If you're interested, there is a wealth of freely available information on this topic from The U.S. Depertment of Energy's website.
