Iraq has admitted firing Scud missiles at US military bases in Kuwait.
Iraqi television said the regime's central command units on the Iraq-Kuwait border had attacked "the dens of evil, treachery and tyranny" at the Ali al-Salem air base near Kuwait City.
US Marines had earlier said several missiles had been fired - two were shot down by Patriot missiles.
But Iraq initially denied the report, saying it did not have any Scuds.
It later said the attack was a "firm determination to teach the criminal invaders, hard lessons and make them taste bitter pain".
One of the missiles landed outside Camp Commando in the Kuwaiti desert on Thursday morning.
Another is reported to have landed near an oil refinary outside Kuwait City.
Officials said the missiles caused no damage and were not carrying chemical or biological warheads.
Camp New Jersey - near the border with Iraq - is believed to be one of the targets. The troops were put on full gas alert.

Those missiles where flying out of control and weren't aimed properly. Perhaps the "criminals" will feel something one day - but not from drunk missiles.
Didnt they say SCUDs were a violation of Resolution 1441? Who needed a smoking gun? Anyone hear Hans Blix come out on TV and state how he thinks Iraq was always in violaton of the Resolution but that he doesnt think Iraq will be stupid enought to use his chem and bio weapons.
It comes down to what you want to hear and believe....the Kuwatii's (not the US) have come out, publicly, and stated that at least two of the missles were SCUDs.
Look people, take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Keep in mind these journalists wouldn't know the difference between a scud and a spud. They want to report as fast as possible. Another reporter hears the first report and all of a sudden its a fact.
Don't get mired in the details. History will judge.
