11.05.03 - This Sunday will be Alumni and Hall of Fame Day at Qualcomm Stadium and the Chargers will induct defensive tackle Louie Kelcher into the Chargers’ Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at halftime of the game against the Minnesota Vikings. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m.
When San Diego takes the field on Sunday, it will mark the Bolts’ first home game since Sept. 21, a span of seven weeks. It marks the longest span between home games for an NFL team since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. Minnesota, led by quarterback Daunte Culpepper and wide receiver Randy Moss, just happens to be one of the top teams in the NFC and comes into the game with a record of 6-2.
Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts will be in attendance Sunday to introduce Kelcher.
Kelcher becomes the 31st member of the team’s Hall of Fame. He played nine seasons in San Diego from 1975-83. Kelcher was a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-NFL selection. He finished his Chargers tenure with 577 tackles and 39 sacks.
Prior to the game, the Chargers Wives and volunteers from the San Diego Food Bank will be at the entry gates to Qualcomm Stadium collecting non-perishable goods and cash donations for victims of the recent fires that ravaged San Diego County. Cash donations will go to the San Diego Fire Relief Fund. Last week, Chargers owner Alex Spanos gave $1 million to the Fund.
The Chargers continue to collect donations for the fire victims. Donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to the: San Diego Fire Relief Fund, P.O. Box 609609, San Diego, CA 92160. - Scott Yoffee, Chargers.com | |
