Questions gone mental????????

There are questions out there that only true Harry Potter fanatics would ask, because otherwise they probably aren’t that important. But as we are all mental for Harry Potter (The British definition of mental), we want to know. Below is a list of mental questions to ponder (The American definition of mental). The point is to answer all of the questions as best you can, even if you deem them unanswerable or only answerable by JKR herself. Feel free to tell others they are wrong or right in their answers and explain why, even though we all know there is at this point in time no correct answer. Also feel free to add your own questions if you have any.

1) If Snape stayed for the Boggart lesson, what do you suppose his boggart would have turned into?

2) Are all Slytherins’ evil in character? Why or why not?

3) In what way would the books change (if at all) if Harry had been put into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor?

4) Which house was Gilderoy Lockhart in?

5) What was Professor Trelawney’s first correct prediction?

6) How does a muggleborn child get to Diagon Alley/Platform 9 3/4 for the first year?

7) What would Voldemorts Boggart look like?

8) What would Lucius Malfoy see if he looked into the mirror of Erised?

1. Snapes boggart would be James Potter
2. Yes, I believe all Slytherins are evil in character, they may not start out that way though. Cunning and ambitious, they always put themselves first. Evil motives.
3. Harry would have no friends, he couldn't be with Draco, and he would never have saved the stone. He needed friends to help him and no slytherin would ever go against Voldemort, at least not at a school age.
4. Gilderoy was such a Slytherin-cunning and ambitious
5. The prophesy about Harry and Voldemort done before Harry was born.
6. THey probably give them special instructions. Remember Harry was not a muggle born. Hagrid forgot to tell him how to get onto the platform.
7. Voldemorts boggart is an extremely pissed off Dumbledore
8. Lucius would see himself as replacing Voldemort as the dark Lord. He would also be Minister.

Good answers... good thoughts on them. Wonder which are true.

Remember, you can post some questions too.

Why didn't Fred and George notice Peter Petigrew on the marauders map?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Hey, good thinking. WHY didn't they see him? Hmmmmm...
Well, does it not show who you truly are when you're in your animagus form? I mean, that's a possibility.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

Lupin saw Peter listed on the map and that is why he left the castle to follow them. He also saw Sirius on the map. I think that Fred and George just thought Peter Petigrew was just some student. Didn't pay attention because they had no idea there were unregistered animagi.

But it was pretty well known that Peter Pettigrew was killed by Sirius Black, and wouldn't it be strange that Peter is always with Ron?
But anyways, in the question about all the Slytherins being evil or not, try to look at Slytherin as at people in real world who have more conservative beliefs, and people who are simply racists. Are they all the same? Are they all bad? No... and still most of them would be sorted in Slytherin.

Reply To this Message

Very good points Maja. Just because you are ambitious and cunning, does not mean that you are evil.

1) Bunny rabbit
2) No, I don't think it necessarily means they have to be evil, just means that if they were to go evil, they'd have an excuse
3) Harry would have been the heir to Slytherin.... no doubt about it
4) Slytherin
5) She would have wheeties in the morning
6) With a lot of care...
7) Bunny Rabbit
8) Himself exactly as he is, since he thinks he's perfect. Well, maybe himself holding Harry's limp body.

1) Moisturising cream.
2) No, just easily led.
3) Green and silver striped scarves would be the Christmas sell-out instead of the red and gold.
4) Slytherin.
5) She hasn't made any correct predictions yet, sockmonkey is the one that shall defeat Voldemort.
6) A pick-axe and alot of patience.
7) Sockmonkey.
8) My face instead of his.

What would Hagrid see if he looked into the Mirror of Erised?
What would Hermione see?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

I think that Hagrid would see himself married, and as a father.
He would also see himself as a "decorated" wizard, teaching at Hogwarts.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Oh, I don't know WHAT Hermione would see. Maybe she would just see herself as the most knowledgeable person around. After all, she's a book worm, who wants to soak up all the knowledge there is.

She would probably also see herself as leading a "victorious" lawsuit for the elves, and any other magically repressed creature.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

Good call Kris. I also think Hagrid would see himself with his wand back and with his own family.

Hermione, I think she would see herself as Minister of Magic and as the Liberator of all the oppressed house elves and werewolves.

1) If Snape stayed for the Boggart lesson, what do you suppose his boggart would have turned into?

Harry as an adult - actually, i believe that Snape treats Harry so bad not only because of revenge, but also because he is afraid that Harry might turn out just as powerful and arrogant as his father, so he tries to prevent that from the beginning

2) Are all Slytherins’ evil in character? Why or why not?

i don't think so .. just look at Crabbe and Goyle .. they are just plain stupid, if Malfoy wouldn't push them in an evil direction, they might not be mean at all ..

3) In what way would the books change (if at all) if Harry had been put into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor?

the books would change completely - the whole story would be different .. and i don't even want to imagine ..

4) Which house was Gilderoy Lockhart in?

Slytherin, he is so selfish, he couldn't have been in any other house ..

5) What was Professor Trelawney’s first correct prediction?

the one about Voldemort's downfall through a boy - concealed in the prophecy .. and by the way, i believe that Dumbledore kept Trewlaney in Hogwarts, because of that. if she would have left and Voldemort would have caught her, he just needed to search her memory and he wouldn't have needed to go get the prophecy any more ..

6) How does a muggleborn child get to Diagon Alley/Platform 9 3/4 for the first year?

since all students need to send an owl back, muggleborn children can ask questions in their return letter, well they better do

7) What would Voldemorts Boggart look like?

Dumbledore

8) What would Lucius Malfoy see if he looked into the mirror of Erised?

himself as Minister of Magic shaking hands with Voldemort ..

Oh wow... I NEVER thought about that. Trelawney DOES live in Hogwarts, up in a tower, that you can't get into really easily. Great point... Voldemort would have snatched her, wouldn't he?

Nice to see ya here, ineli. Keep coming back.

1) If Snape stayed for the Boggart lesson, what do you suppose his boggart would have turned into? Voldemort; dead Dumbledore; sunlight

2) Are all Slytherins evil in character? Why or why not? Slytherins are described as "ambitious", not "evil". "Ambitious" doesn't necessarily mean they're wicked. Besides, some are just stupid. (Crabbe + Goyle)

3) In what way would the books change (if at all) if Harry had been put into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor? :/ He might not hang out with Ron and Hermy. And if he did, Slytherins would beat him up and reject his arse! And the Gryfs might hate him, too.

4) Which house was Gilderoy Lockhart in? If he attended Hogwarts (there ARE other schools of magic, after all), probably Hufflepuff... Or Slytherin. He is quite ambitious, and a bit wicked when he wants to be.

5) What was Professor Trelawney’s first correct prediction? Harry's prophecy; that was stated in the fifth book.

6) How does a muggleborn child get to Diagon Alley/Platform 9 3/4 for the first year? Find out from someone else, I suppose, like Harry did

7) What would Voldemort's Boggart look like? Dumbledore

8) What would Lucius Malfoy see if he looked into the mirror of Erised? Himself as the Dark Lord with Voldemort serving him

Along with him being the Dark Lord, I think he'd see all the Muggles, 'Mudbloods', and Half-bloods dead at his feet- possibly including Voldemort; and he would be performing the Cruciatus (spelling?) Curse on Harry. (He would have killed everyone else so Harry would have to watch and suffer.)
I don't think he would see himself as he is for one main reason- you only see that if you're the happiest man in the world- which he's not.

She would see herself as having all the highest academic honors that can possibly be given, and Ron would be at her side, possibly performing some sort of embarrasing curse on Draco.

1)shampoo for his greesy hair, or a dead dumbledore, which i feel is one of his only protections against voldmort and the ministry

2) nah i think thres got to be one or two good ones that are just stuck up... then again thats not good

3) the people hes friends with, and the relationships hes made

4) ravenclaw... hes a clever one

5)the one way back when dumbledore heard her prophecy?

6) same way harry did i guess, keep an eye out... ? or maybe they recive special instructions harry and others dont get.

7) i think it would be a form of death, i mean hes done almost EVERYTHING to avoid it.

8)he would be voldmorts main man, all the good people in the world would be gone, and draco would be right up there with him

1. I think that Snape is one of these people that need to be needed. So I think he would see himself u-nwanted and un-needed.

2. Slytherins generaly are evil in character but then we cannot generalise the subject, after all Snape isn't completely evil and everyone has their own personality.

3. He porbably wouldn't be friends with Ron or Hermoine, or he would and would be shunned by the Slytherin house.

4. I see Gilderoy Lockhart as a Hufflepuff, very pompus and full of himself, he is also very usless with a wand.

5. I would have no idea.

6. a muggle-born wizard or witch would probably recieve instructions on how to get to the platform.

7. Voldemorts Boggart would be...hmmm...I recon Voldemort fear death or his greatest fear would be to be utterly helpless and out of controll, so he could see a shell of himself.

8. himself in power

1) If Snape stayed for the Boggart lesson, what do you suppose his boggart would have turned into? Voldemort. He's a death eater, who has turned his back on him. He has a reason to fear Voldemort

2) Are all Slytherins’ evil in character? Why or why not? No, otherwise the Slytherin house would have been banned from Hogwarts years ago. But I do believe that someone with a Slytherin personality (cunning, ambitious) is more likely to go bad.

3) In what way would the books change (if at all) if Harry had been put into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor? Well, that wouldn't have happened because one of the major themes in the book is the importance of the decisions you make. Harry wouldn't be the same person he is. And he wouldn't have Ron and Hermione, who I've said many times before, are just as important to the story as Harry.

4) Which house was Gilderoy Lockhart in? Either Slytherin or Hufflepuff. He's too dumb for Ravenclaw, and too gutless for Gryffindor.

5) What was Professor Trelawney’s first correct prediction? The prophecy

6) How does a muggleborn child get to Diagon Alley/Platform 9 3/4 for the first year? They probably have a guide or mentor. Harry just happened to have Hagrid as a guide. I think Hermione's guide may have been Grandma Longbottom. That may be why she was with Neville the first day on the train.

7) What would Voldemorts Boggart look like? Harry Potter

8) What would Lucius Malfoy see if he looked into the mirror of Erised? Himself as Voldemort's right hand man

I forgot who Mark Evans is. Who is he?

Where did Mr. Malfoy get Tom Riddle's journal?
How did Wormtail know where to find Voldemort?
Why is Harry's Patronus a stag?
Have the Dursley's ever had their memories erased because of an incident with Harry?
What about The Mason's?
How long was Prof. Qurrel (i know i spelled it wrong) a teacher before Harry?
How long has Mrs. Figg been watching Harry?
Who had the Maurders Map before Filch?
How did Dumbledoor get the Invisibility Cloak?
What house was Dumbledoor in?
Why isn't Hermionie in Ravenclaw?
How different would the story be if Harry wasn't friends with either Ron or Hermionie?

Where did Mr. Malfoy get Tom Riddle's journal?we don't know yet, but I think Malfoy was holding on to his stuff until he returned
How did Wormtail know where to find Voldemort?rumors
Why is Harry's Patronus a stag?James' patronus was a stag. Harry "found" his father in himself and produces a stag
Have the Dursley's ever had their memories erased because of an incident with Harry? no
What about The Mason's?I doubt it. They did not see the pudding hover, so they just thought he hit them with it
How long was Prof. Qurrel (i know i spelled it wrong) a teacher before Harry? three years
How long has Mrs. Figg been watching Harry?most likely his entire life at Privet Drive
Who had the Maurders Map before Filch? One of the Mauraders
How did Dumbledoor get the Invisibility Cloak?James gave it to him for safe keeping
What house was Dumbledoor in?most likely Gryffindor
Why isn't Hermionie in Ravenclaw? sorting hat chose G after debating

Hermione is in Gryffindor because her biggest strength is her bravery. She may be smart, but that's because she reads a lot. Bravery was born into her.

If Harry wasn't friends with Ron or Hermione, it would have all ended in book 1. Voldemort would have gotten the stone. Harry wouldn't have been able to get the stone without Ron and Hermione's help.

If you cannot Apparate or Disapparate anywhere on Hogwarts grounds, why is it that in the 2nd book Dobby just snaps his fingers and disappears?

Reply To this Message

House elves have special powers that wizards do not. I think that their "appearances" and "disappearances" are allowed because they work there and they are bound to serve their master. They would not be up to anything bad type of thing. Still, I would love to hear JKR's explanation.

He didn't really know how to do it properly. In book 4, fake Moody taught the class the words, but never said how exactly to make it work. Bellatrix just laughed when Harry tried to perform it on her.

Actually she felt a short amount of pain but didn't suffer the whole effect.

Because he only said the words. He didn't know how to do it properly. I think attempting to use an illegal curse may come back to haunt him.

He may, but remember, his wand and Voldemort's wand will not work properly against each other. This complicates things for Harry.

Yes Priori Incantatum, if I remember correctly. Which could mean that if Dumbledore dies he will be brough back for a while, same with Pettigrew if my prediction is right.

Reply To this Message

Anything is possible, but JK Rowling has already used Priori Incantatum to help Harry. I think it's going to be something that no one expects.

JK Rowling is a genius. I'm sure what ever she thinks up will be brilliant.

No one is as great as Tolkien, but Rowling is a close second. Lewis is up there too.

Reply To this Message

Tolkien and Lewis are the two most well known authors in English lituriture. Shakspear was a play-write not an Author. J.K. Rowling's books are not as well known yet but in future generations they will be.

1) If Snape stayed for the Boggart lesson, what do you suppose his boggart would have turned into? He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named

2) Are all Slytherins’ evil in character? Why or why not? I say yes. Because they all seem to make fun of others. Although I think J.K. may prove me wrong on this one by introudicing or changing a Slytherin to the good side.

3) In what way would the books change (if at all) if Harry had been put into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor? He may not be friends with the Gryffindors, hate Gryffindors, not be friends with who he is friends with exc.

4) Which house was Gilderoy Lockhart in? I think he was in Hufflepuff

5) What was Professor Trelawney’s first correct prediction? Yes

6) How does a muggleborn child get to Diagon Alley/Platform 9 3/4 for the first year? Probably is told in the owl and then runs onto the platform like non-muggleborns

7) What would Voldemorts Boggart look like? Death
