What holiday movies are a must see every year for you?

I have to see Christmas Vacation every year. Watch it with my mom. So funny.

Christmas Vacation is a MUST for the season.

Also, that movie, which I can't think of the name... where the little boy wants a bb gun and that line... "You'll shoot your eye out, kid" Is that movie called, "Christmas Story" It's old...

Meet Me In St Louis is a favorite of mine at holiday time. It's an old musical with Judy Garland... from 1944. I just love that movie.

Yup. It is Christmas Story. Ron loves that one.

I also love the Santa Clause.

I like White Christmas, It's A Wonderful Life and Santa Claus: The Movie. But any of them are great, usually

Christmas Story: that's not just any BB gun, it's a Red Ryder BB Gun!

I don't have one, but I always seem to catch myself watching a few minutes of Rudolph when it airs on TV every year. You know, the clay-mation one...

I'll tell you what, though... Every year, on christmas day, we'll listen to a Frosty The Snowman record we got in the 80's, as well as "T'was the Night Before Christmas". Not the original, but the one about a family of mice that have to fix the christmas clock, or else Santa won't come and bring presents... We also listen to an old Jim Reeves Christmas album, and a John Denver double christmas album called, Aspenglow. My family lives in another city, so at christmas time when I can't make it there, I call them and they play the records for me over the phone (I've got a great national long distance plan...)...

That's our tradition... We need to get those albums on CD before the record player konks out...

Oh, and there IS a christmas movie that I like to watch during the season... Actually, it is for both christmas AND new year's, because in the movie both holidays pass...

TRADING PLACES

Great movie! I forgot cuz my family has it in Toronto, and I'm out here in Winnipeg. I haven't seen it in a couple years... I'm gonna have to get the DVD... Is there one yet??

You all picked some really good ones such as Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story (I like it when the dad gets the leg lamp and he says it must be Italian because it says fragile...which he pronounces frajeelay. LOL) Meet Me in St. Louis...an ABSOLUTE MUST!! Trading Places...perfect choice! ($1.00) I love The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! Never miss it

But my one most essential, "cannot do without" movie every Christmas....and thats.......

Its A Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart)

But the one cartoon I cannot miss...

A Year Without A Santa Claus.....(Im Mr. Heat Meiser, Im Mr. Sun, Im Mr. Heat Meiser...Im Mr. hundred and one...they call me heat meiser, whatever I touch...seems to melt in my clutch...Im too much...dah dah dah dah daaaaah dah, dah dah dah dah daaaaah dah)

Im sorry I got lost in the moment!

The Heat Miser Song

I'm Mister Green Christmas
I'm Mister Sun
I'm Mister Heat Blister
I'm Mister Hundred and One
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch
I'm too much!
He's Mister Green Christmas
He's Mister Sun
He's Mister Heat Blister
He's Mister Hundred and One
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch
He's too much!
Thank you!
I never want to see a day
That's under sixty degrees
I'd rather have it eighty,
Ninety, one hundred degrees!
(spoken)
Oh, some like it hot, but I like it
REALLY hot! Hee hee!
He's Mister Green Christmas
He's Mister Sun
Sing it!
He's Mister Heat Blister
He's Mister Hundred and One
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch
I'm too much!
Too Much!

I'm Mister White Christmas
I'm Mister Snow
I'm Mister Icicle
I'm Mister Ten Below
Friends call me Snow Miser,
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch
I'm too much!

[Chorus]

He's Mister White Christmas
He's Mister Snow

[Snow Miser]

That's right!

[Chorus]

He's Mister Icicle
He's Mister Ten Below

[Snow Miser]

Friends call me Snow Miser,
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch

[Chorus]

He's too much!

[Snow Miser]

I never want to see a day
That's over forty degrees
I'd rather have it thirty,
Twenty, ten, five and let it freeeeEEEEEEeeze!

[Chorus]

He's Mister White Christmas
He's Mister Snow

[Snow Miser]

That's right!

[Chorus]

He's Mister Icicle
He's Mister Ten Below

[Snow Miser]

Friends call me Snow Miser,
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch
... too much.

[Everybody]

I got a good one... Well, one that I like anyways, and I just might make a short tradition out of (until I get annoyed with his acting...)

The Family Man

Tea Leoni is just a fabulous woman. I think she's glorious... Don't tell Larke2000, though! He owes me some grief for dissing his maiden of fantasy, Denise Richards!

OKay... I'm thinking of the original, with the Misfit toys IN it. Oops... my mistake. It's an updated version, sequel. Make sense? Didn't know that the original wasn't called that. I remember a cartoon where they went to the island of misfit toys... and it's years old. Hmmm... what am I thinking about? Because it isn't just a couple years old!!!

Isnt that just Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer? Where he goes off with Hermie (the guy that wants to be the dentist) because they feel that they dont belong and they end up on the island, and then when Rudolph gets picked to be the guide for Santa, they go back to the island to pick up the toys?

Is there another one? Maybe there is and Im just totally confused!! (Wouldnt be the first time! )

THAT'S IT!!! Okay... I KNEW that they went to the island! I just couldn't remember what it was called. And "Bumble" or the Abominable Snow Monster is in it too. I LOVE him. I've got his figurine up on my desk. And, I have the miner Yukon Cornelius as well. Then, I have a snow globe from the Island of Misfit Toys. It's too cute.

If you have the under 5 set in your home, A Very Bear Chrismas-Bear in the Big Blue House is excellent. The gang discovers a homeless hound dog at Christmas. It makes them think about the less fortunate. Really well done movie for the toddler/pre-school set..

I love, "Meet Me In St. Louis" with Judy Garland. It's not a "christmas" movie... but a big part takes place, in the end, during Christmas, and it's just so touching. And, Judy sings a Christmas song, and it is really powerful. Her voice was AMAZING!!!!! I love watching that movie every year!

By the looks of it, I think I'll be adding ELF to my list for next year! It's looking pretty funny...

I can't remember if it was mentioned, and I'm not in the mood to go back through the thread to find out if it has, but there was a made-for-tv movie that came out in the 80's. Ok, I can't remember the name of the actress, but it was one of the first times I remember seeing her in anything. It's the same woman who played Kevin Kline's next-door neighbour in Life as a House (is that the title? Man, my brain is OFF today...) Is her name Mary Stewart Masterson? I don't know why, but that's the name that came into my head, but I don't trust it because I don't feel very mentally acute today...

Anyways, it was about how an angel helps her and her daughter, I believe... Oh well, that's the best explanation I have in me today... Hopefully someone can remember the title and post it here...

Forget it, I googled, found out that the actress' name is mary STEENBURGEN, and the movie was called One Magic Christmas. I think it actually WAS posted previously, so chalk this post up to my failing mental state...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Okay... you got the info... I was going to get that for you. I have that movie, Life As A House, and I knew that it wasn't the first one that you mentioned.

Elf, eh? I don't know that I want to see it. I will wait and see what everyone else says about it before I commit myself to a possible stupid flick.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sierradaddy

Well, Elf was the biggest movie at the box office in it's second weekend, which has to count for something. It overtook Revolutions, and it seems to be gaining the kind of word-of-mouth strength that My Big Fat Greek Wedding got last year...

I just hope they don't fall into the same stupidity hole and make a primetime tv show...

Reply To this Message

Oh man... My Big Fat Greek Wedding was awesome. If Elf is that good, I will buy it.

Elf was a good movie, better than the MBFGW, even thou i never saw it! but, yea... no rush for a series that will go down the drains...like most of FOX tv shows, they must jut like to let people see if it's a success

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Ummmmm... if you haven't seen MBFGW, how do you know that it was better?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Luigi0788

Cause Elf is a classic kinda movie, & MBFGW is a kind were it'll be forgotten in 2months. EX/ back in 1995 i think, Tommyboy was said to last decades... now? TNN.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Hmmm... well, that goes to show that you don't know facts. Do you have ANY idea how much money MBFGW made? How many people LOVED that movie, and paid money to see it over and over? How many dvd's it's sold? It's not going to be forgotten.

That doesn't mean that Elf isn't a great movie though...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Luigi0788

no no no, i meant how over time, it will decrease in popularity... i mean, over timeit will disapear. Its not gonna be this huge forever. NO MOVIE EVER HAS! unlike elf, its sumtin u might see every year(due to seasonal reasons)

I can think of a couple of movies that have stood the test of time...

1. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
2. Original Star Wars Trilogy, but mainly the first one, A New Hope.

One movie that has gone the way of the do-do bird is Titanic, and I'm SOOOOOOoooooo thankful for that! I HATED that movie, and I couldn't understand it's popularity. Sappy rubbish...

But, if you want to talk about a sustained, continued force of impact on society, then I suppose you're right. No movie ever is as big as when it was originally released, or at least, I can't think of any that have remained AS BIG as when they were first released... Or, at least none after perhaps Office Space, which seems to have made most of it's money through DVD sales. But, that's a moot point then, isn't it?

The movies can be directly compared, which is the most important thing. They are both in the comedy genre, and they were both released within 2 years of each other, which makes the comparison all the more real. If I hear from someone that MBFGW was just as good as Elf, but in a different way, then I'll be interested in seeing it, even though I'm not interested in seeing MBFGW... If someone said that Not Another Teen Movie was stupid, just like Scary Movie was stupid, then I'll be in theatres the next day, cuz I LOVED both movies... Comparison is a big deal where word of mouth is concerned.

There a lot of movies out there that will stand the test of time, think odler style like Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Gone With The Wind, Miracle on 42nd (I think) Street, those will alwyas be classics that everyone loves and they are gfood because the whole family can watch together.

Anything with Rob Schneider in it is guaranteed to NOT be a classic. Sorry, but this guys annoys the hell out of me, and Ii just saw another trailer for another dumb-ass movie of his.
Reply To this Message

Posted by: Luigi0788

What? Rob Shneider is a good actor, but hes not really the best... Like Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Mike Myers, Leonardo Dicaprio, and many others.
Mostly, ONLY AND ALL classics will last a life time. More to mention: Singing in the rain, On Golden Pond, & Grumpy Old men. Haha, just threw them in cause some1 has too! i mean, theyre all good, YOU OL' COOTS!!! hahaha, yea

"A Christmas Carol". When I was little, we used to rent it and after we would get home from seeing Christmas lights on Christmas Eve night, we would all sit down with our cookies, fudge, devinity, cheese and crackers and cups of hot chocolate and watch "A Christmas Carol" before going to bed. Now that I'm older, it just doesn't really seem much like Christmas if I miss seeing it on Christmas Eve night. It's what I grew up with.

Believe me, you're better off buying that one. You don't want to try renting it a week before Christmas because you'll be extremely lucky if you can get your hands on so much as an empty box.

Luigi... instead of doing the "quick reply" box at the bottom of each screen, click on the button near that which reads "post reply." When you do that, it will go to a different screen, and on the left side, about half way down, you will have some smilies in which to choose from. If you're not getting that option at all, than I'm not sure what to say, other than, send a pm to Marc Flemming, and see if there's something wrong with your setup.

Is this part clicked on yes or no:

Use vBCode quick links on your message input screens?
Enabling this option allows you to quickly manipulate different aspects of your posts including color, font, and size. In addition you can click on smilies to have them inserted into your posts. You may disable this option if it causes problems for you.

If you have 'no' clicked, that might be why you don't see that option for you to post them.
