Return of the King ending ... will they cut it? |
| Posted by: jrkiv | | I've been thinking a lot about how jackson will bring the trilogy to a close. Every time i think about how LOTR fits best into a movie, i don't think Jackson will continue the story of the hobbits going back to the shire to find it in shambles.
I think the climax is at the mountain of doom, and shortly after that jackson will end the movie with teary-eyed goodbyes and frodo sailing into the west.
Has anybody seen any frames in Return of the king that show the hobbits returning to the shire? If he doesn't include this how will he conclude saruman's role in the trilogy.
I'm somewhat split on this ... i want jackson to remain true to the books, but i can see how he might be tempted to cut out the final chapter of the hobbits.
What does everybody else think? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | It'd be nice if you had labelled the post "possible spoilers", in case someone who hasn't read the book comes in here. Even though the title does mention the ending... it's still nice to do so. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | I had heard that was one of the reasons that they cut Shelob out of the second movie was so that they could cut most of the rebuilding of the Shire out of the third movie and still have it be a reasonable length.
I hope they dont cut it out because I want to see all that stuff and want the movies to stay as true to the books as possible, but Peter Jackson & Co will do what they feel is right. We may not agree but what can you do? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Luigi0788 | | Right Gabo, i haven't read the books, too busy with school right now. I mean, doing Geometry Biology, Adv English aren't really simple subjects for me.
But still, they have to end the movie at the shire cause i heard sumtin happens there very important like. & another thing makes me wonder:
1) is it true in the Return of the King, Gollum actually bites off hi finger & jumps into that one place where the ring was made (i fergot wat its called)
2) that the one elf leader who supposivly died at Helms deep in the second was actually suppose to die in the third during the big battle, along side with Merry?
Just wondering | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | I have now heard something totally different, that the third movie will be the longest, they have frodo destroy the ring in the first half and hour and the rest of the film is about the rebuilding of the shire and stuff. Does anyone know anything? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Luigi0788 | | why would they cut out sauromon when really, hes like important. It'd be like cutting out frodo. The ending, maybe. I mean, if golum bites off FRODOS finger & jumps in after it, it might be not needed/ But oh well, | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: stainless | | I don't now why they might cut out Sauromans parts.... all i know is that it was in a news paper. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lil' Washu | | They are talking about cutting Saruman's parts out. The part where Grima slits his throat in the Shire is being cut out. I do believe they had it where Saruman fell off his post in Isengard and that Legolas shot Grima in the eye or something like that. Now I found on another message board that says the Saruman parts will be taken out. They said that they would appear in the Extended version for the Return of the King. Peter Jackson said that the people who haven't read the books will only assume that the Ents destroyed him along with Isengard. That's good and all, but I think I'm liking this hobbit director less and less.
As for the Scouring(sp?) of the Shire, they won't be one. Peter Jackson said that when Frodo looked into the Mirror of Galadriel and saw the Shire burning, that was his tribute to it.
I do remember myself hearing somewhere that Galadriel will narrate the very end like she did at the very beginning of FOTR. Now, whether I dreamed that up or something, I have no clue. I think that would seem appropiate though, because a lot of things do happen afterwards and I wonder if PJ's showing of Aragorn dead in the second one would be his contribute? If so, then I probably won't cry as much as I thought I would. I wonder if they'll put anything in the last movie about the tale of Aragorn and Arwen that was in the appendix? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Shadow Stalker | | Saruman will not appear in ROTK...just in the extended ed. DVD of it.
and Haldir and his elves weren't even in the TTT book. they just threw that in for some wierd reason...Haldir's only role in the book is as a guide through lorien. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Yes, I did not understand why they added Haldir in TT. Very strange. I am sad that Saurman will not appear in the theater version. Thanks for the update. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: aislyna | | I saw the movie last night at a sneek preview..
They come back to the Shire intact... as if they hadnt left. It gave the impression that the Hobbits didnt even know they were gone.
Frodo however had to leave the Shire with Gandalf and the elves, I dont know why. It really wasnt explained so I am looking for someone that read the book to tell me why. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: aislyna | | Oh and Saruman isnt in return of the king.
I did enjoy how they did the whole Gollum protrayal, how he started out and all.
The movie was really long. There was no way they could have stayed faithful to the book and keep it reasonable. The ending was sweet but drawn out. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Shadow Stalker | | well aislyna, it is rather hard to explain...basically, the reason he leaves in the book is because first of all he threw away the greatest power on earth, and that still torments him to a degree. then he also continues to suffer from the wound the Morgul knife gave him, as well as when he was bitten by shelob. those wounds never fully heal, thus the reason for his heading into the west, where he will find eternal peace. hope that made sense...i'd recommend you read the books, because as good as the movies are the book is 5X better. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Yes, in the books Frodo continues to experience pain from the morgul knife. He falls ill on the anniversary of the attack. It was the wound from the knife that sent him overseas. The ring was destroyed, so the lure of it was gone-just like it left Bilbo. | | Reply To this Message

-Peter Jackson Never even filmed the scouring of the shire. So by that means there will be no True ending. I think that part of the book is basically the ultimate conclusion to the series. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Dragonhalitosis | | Christopher Lee was preally pissed off his scenes were left out of the movie too .
