| The bye week has mercifully come to be. With an 0-5 record, a myriad of injuries and penalties, and some breakdown in team chemistry, the Chargers need to take a long look at everything before getting back on the field in Week 7 against Cleveland. The offense has been averaging about 390 yards a game over the past three contests, but penalties have taken the team out of scoring range countless times. With two weeks to work on this, San Diego hopes to have some of their fill-ins on the line gel and to get those fill-ins to stop committing the infractions. "I would like to think that if we eliminate some of the penalties, those things compromise your ability to win," coach Marty Schottenheimer said. "Believe me, we've talked about it until we're blue in the face and still not getting the message through. And we're going to continue to talk about it. That's the only thing you can do." | |
