Favorite movies are easy to guess, but most of us have a movie that we laughed at or liked that in reality was a stupid movie.
Please enter the confessional and confess your guilty pleasure

My name is Fuscia, and I liked Top Secret.

I loved the scene with the ballet dancers, the males ones. My best friend and I laughed so hard we almost got kicked out of the theatre. We just couldn't stop.

Okay, I love Kevin Smith movies. My favorite is Dogma though, but I also like Jay and Bob Strike Back and Chasing Amy... the others, aren't really as good (in my opinion) but I still like them

*blushing* how embarassing...

Oh, and the movie Baseketball, with the guys who created south park in it... I love that movie, couldn't stop laughing (it's by the same guys who made top secret! too... and Airplane!, Naked Gun, and more... some fantastic movies )

ALSO, cannibal the musical and orgazmo, by the south park guys... those movies I enjoyed too

Ok... done embarassing myself.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

Orgazmo! That was so funny. My husband loves it. Especially the "now you're a man" song.

I think it's the whole idea of the movie that makes me burst in laughter. So stupid - I love it

Have you seen the movie, "The Gods Must Be Crazy"
Its about this Africian tribal guy who's walking and a coke bottle (glass) falls on him from the sky. What he doesn't know is that it was tossed out of a little airplane. He thinks that it's been thrown at him from the gods above. He takes it back to his tribe, and it's just a hysterical movie. The things that they come up with for it use

Ron had me watch that movie. It was so funny!

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

That's an oldie, and it's a MUSICAL (bleh...) of all things, but I like it, and I watched it growing up a LOT during the summers. My 3 siblings and I were latch-key kids (remember that term??? ), and we'd watch that along with the Inspector General (Danny Kaye) and The Parent Trap (Haley Mills). Later on, we added the Sound of Music... I used to know all the songs off by heart, and most of the choreography too.....

Reply To this Message

Posted by: gaboman

Gods Must Be Crazy 1 and 2 are hilarious

^ and I like those movies too Sierradaddy Didn't realise it was embarassing... I actually love Danny Kaye's movies... and... I... don't.... know... why..... that man was a genius though

I'm glad I didn't go as far to learn the choreography of sound of music but I dun think it's embarassing to like that movie, everyone loves it. Except those who haven't seen it (hint hint KJ)

Oh, thanks for the *hint* Grant. As if I needed it!!

Sierradaddy, speaking of Danny Kaye... have you seen, "The Court Jester?"

Reply To this Message

you could ask me too, I've seen it... and five pennies and Hans Christian Anderson and Merry Andrews and Walter Mitty and Knock On Wood and White Christmas and ... well, more can't remember more at the moment.

well, I'm done, so Sierradaddy, have you seen it?

Reply To this Message

Grant, I wasn't forgetting you. I just thought that I would point the ?? at Sierradaddy, since he mentioned Danny Kaye. I'm just striking out, all over the board tonight with you, aren't I?

Oh I should go find more reasons to be upset

I'm having a really bad day, I must be taking it out on you... sorry

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sierradaddy

I haven't seen Court Jester, or any other Danny Kaye movie. I only realized that Kaye was in White Christmas about 4 years ago when I caught a glimpse of them on a train (?) together. I checked the tv listings for that channel at the time I flipped by it, and it stated that White Christmas was on.

C'mon, Gaboman... You're telling me that you can't do at least SOME of the steps to "So long, Farewell" ? Even if all you could do was the littlest girl's part, when she's shy and almost pouting while she backs up the stairs on her bottom, using her hands behind her to help her to the next step, while she sang, "The suuuuunn, has gooooonnne, to bed and so, must I- I....", that's good enough... Don't worry, we're all here to support you. Confession is GOOD FOR THE SOUL!!

I like Wayne's World too, if everyone here remembers those movies.

Reply To this Message

Mortal Combat was okay I don't really remember it though. Waterboy was hilarious I love all of Adam Sandler's movies

Oh, and Rob Schnider's movies, and they're as stupid as movies come. The Hot Chick, The Animal, Duece Bigalow: Male Gigalo, they're about as stupid as stupid comes and they crack me up.

Oh, also the Chris Farley movies... he was one funny man. Him and David Spade were great together.

The Hot Chick was hysterical.

Oh, how about Deuce Bigalow, the Male Gigalo? That movie cracks me up every single time. Especially the chick with turretts syndrom.

Hehehe right, she was hillarious... and that one woman - "have you ever parked a bike inside an aircraft hanger?"

I realised I have a bad one. I like Evil Dead 3: Army Of Darkness... which is one of the most ridiculous horror movies ever made. But it's so enjoyable

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Sierradaddy

I'm with you on that one, gaboman. Army of Darkness was really stupid, but in a way that just forces you to laugh and even enjoy the movie. I need to get that on DVD!

What about the Porky's movies? Or Meatballs? Better yet, Revenge of the Nerds! THOSE were dumb movies, but they were big in the 80's. Also Police Academy.

Reply To this Message

Yes, the Police Academy movies were stupid, but still fun to watch.
I remember Meatballs... the kids at camp, and the alien dude, right?

Reply To this Message

I guess that's one way to describe it... so along with those, add Meatballs 2, 3 and 4...

I want the Army of Darkness DVD too, now that I think of it

Oh! Did anyone see Moving Violations? That movie was pretty funny, but like all movies mentioned here: stupid.

Gleaming the Cube

Heathers

I love him... and even these dumb movies, simply because of him.

Reply To this Message

hehehe caddyshack definately qualifies as dumb But I did like it. Can't actually remember the difference between the first one and the sequel.

I've only seen Heathers out of the above... I actually liked it

There was one movie I saw... where this... guy falls in love with his mannequin... and like gets really obsessed over it... I think he does something like kills his parents and tries to hurt his sister... damned if I can remember the title, but I do remember I liked it

All those 80's movies with John Cusak were great. Stupid, but great.

What was the one he did with Demi Moore, and they went to some beach island area for vacation? That was stupid, but I love it, and watch it whenever it's on tv.

Better Off Dead is one of my fav's of his. It's so dumb... but you just have to love it.

Reply To this Message

Is that one with Demi Moore about Cusack trying to get to her? something like he had to see her and explain something?? I can't remember exactly... Anyways, is the movie titled something like Hyperspeed? Umm... I can't remember at all.....

Well, let's consult google...

Excellent! I guess we should add Clash of the Teen Titans to the list (if it hasn't been added already)...

And The Dark Crystal.

Some people say that the Last Unicorn was a stupid movie, but even I liked it.

"That's all I have to tell you... That's allllll, Iiiiii, haaaavvvvve, tooooooooo, saaaaaaaaaaayyyy!"

I love Monty Pyhton films, they are considered "classic" movies in my family (we're english).

One film I love that everyone says that they hate, (but secretly Loves) is Grease. I can sing-a-long with all the songs and know the words, I think it is a great movie, still going after all these years.

Oh, you know what?

I was just recalling what I think was either the Golden Globes or the Oscars. Actually, I was first recalling the Emmys. I was remembering one from the 80's, when they paired Whoopi and Bobcat goldthwaite together. They were reading off the nominees for a particular category, and Bobcat was like, "Was, I, nominated?" I started laughing because everyone in the theatre were they were was laughing. I was too young to understand the joke, but I liked the way Bobcat said his lines and I've not forgotten it to this day.

Anyways, what a digression that was... So, I recalled another 80's-era awards show, where they paired Carol Channing with a particularly nerdy-geeky guy who wore a silver-grey suit with flood pants, slicked his dark hair back, and had avery distinctive laugh that was a piercing guttural, "HAH-HAH!"

I remember a part of their bit. The nerdy guy was happy and excited, as his character always is, and Carol was miserable and foul-mouthed. It was kind of like a litany, because they were rhyming.

Guy: I'm doing a pilot!
Carol: silly twit!
Guy: It's for a lot of bucks...
Carol: Who gives a sh- (the guy did a high-pitched gasp that interrupted what was going to be a bad word... )

The guy was Pee-Wee Herman, and anything that character has ever done needs to be under the category of stupid, but his movies were pretty big in the 80's, and I remember laughing hysterically to at least one of them.

Add Pee-Wee Herman movies to the list...

Oh, and also Mars Attacks. OH, and one that I saw in the movie store on friday night: Spaced Invaders!!

ROFL!!

Oh man, when I was 17 - 19, I would go to the theatre and see the Rocky Horror Picture Show just about every weekend, at midnight. There was a cast of people who were dressed up like the characters and did the whole movie, right under the screen, and the audience was REALLY involved with it. That was some amazingly fun times. Nope, not a stupid movie... if you watch it the right way.

Absolutely! It was great...!!

Saturday nights at the Varsity Theater at midnight...doing the time warp with the whole theater, shooting my water gun with a newspaper on my head.....talking with the characters...watching the actors up front in full garb doing the entire show....

That was SO much fun!!

I remember when I lived in LA I went to the drive in (in the late eighties) they showed it....it wasnt the same though...not like at the theater.

*Sigh*...I miss that show!

My favorite part is when they were all sitting around introducing themselves. John Candy ws sooo funny and while he was talking Bill Murray's friend is making those faces behind him....I crack up at that everytime.

What about Beverly Hills Cop....I know it was sometimes dramatic....but I love the part where he goes in to see Jenny and he meets Serge for the first time....he starts talking about the espresso "I make it myself.....a little lemon twist..its good..youll like it." LOL!! and he tells that guy "Tell Jenny that Achmel Foley is here....Achmel, Achne, ackwell....*pause* Foley is here to see her.

KJ, Johnny Be Good is a GREAT choice. I didn't realize Uma was in it!

The man that played the role of Balkie in Perfect Strangers back in the 80's is named Bronson Pinchot. Funny guy...

Hey, speaking of him, he did a movie back in the 80's called Jury Duty. I think it was made for tv, but it was hilarious! He played at least 2 different roles in that movie. He was a character named Sanford Lagelfust, a low-key, fragile man who was on trial for embezzlement. The twist is that he was having a hot love affair with Hope Hathaway, a knock-out sexpot played by Tracy Scoggins. She ends up becoming the focus of the trial, which gets blown out of proportion and leads to a media frenzy. This leads us to a character named Jorge Jimenez, which was a spoof of Geraldo Rivera. Jorge is a really funny character...

Yup. Remember all of the big jewlery?

My favorite line in Wedding Singer is when he tells Linda to get out of his Van Halen shirt before she jinxes the band and they break up.

Oh man, yeah, that line was funny.

I like the end, in the airplane, and that jerk threatens Billy Idol, and that biker guy says, "No body messes with Billy." That was funny.

Loved that part. Boy did Billy Idol look old. Too many years of partying.

Yeah... he looked like the make up was covering a lot of wrinkles.

How about "The Princess Bride" That was one of my favorites.

Oh no... you haven't seen The Princess Bride? YIPES!!!

Carey Elwes and Robin Wright-Penn

It's a cute love story. You will have to see it. Full of dumb comedy all over it.

Carey Elwes is so cool I dunno why, but I like him, he's a good actor... Robin Hood Men In Tights was too good

Princess Bride is one of my favorites... truly brilliant movie - most critics give it 5 stars even! Brilliant...

Noooooooo... I don't think that it's stupid. I LOVED that movie. But, there are people who thought that it was a lame movie. So, it kind of get's thrown in this category.

The First Wives Club was a good movie... WOMEN POWER!!!!

Great movie!!

That happens to be my favorite part too, mystic! In fact, other than the cupid song, that's pretty much all I remember, dialogue-wise, from the movie...

Martin Short: It's like someone took a WHITE-HOT NEEDLE and stuck it right in my eye!

Hey, I liked Princess Bride. I almost thought about mentioning it earlier in this thread, but I decided against it because it wasn't dumb in my opinion...

I also thought about a movie on the way home friday night that should be in this thread, for me anyway...

DEATH BECOMES HER...

Yes! Death Becomes Her! I forgot about that one. Too busy wondering why I never saw Princess Bride or Robin-hood Men in Tights I guess.

Princess Bride is an awesome movie, I have always loved it.

We recently had re-runs of Indiana Jones trilogy, they are classics and also had repeats of some Adam Sandler movies (Happy Gilmore and the one where he adopts that kid), I used to hate him at first but now I laugh out loud all the time when i watch him.

Yes, Adam Sandler movies... ALL of them, 'cept maybe Punch-Drunk Love, which I haven't seen, but understand is more of a dramatic movie than a comedy... Hmmm....

I LOVED the one where he inherits 40 Billion dollars. For some reason, I can't recall the name of the movie... Oh yeah, Mr. Deeds! Adam's character was fine, but the show stealer was Sandler's spanish butler. The "bery-bery sneaky" one, with the sock fetish!

Also, I've thoroughly enjoyed Chris Rock's recent movies...

Head of State and Down to Earth (I think it's called...) Also, the one where he plays a CIA agent after his long-lost twin brother gets killed. It also stars Anthony Hopkins... Bad Company??

I loved Mr. Deeds

"I like feet. I don't know why"

Right, bad company, that's a good one I like Chris Rock's character in Dogma too: 13th Apostle

"I think you are underestimating the sneakiness"

hehehe I can't stand Death Becomes Her... sorry, but I get a terrible headache whenever I see it's going to be on TV here (and it's on like a few times every month since i've moved here)

Yeah, if I saw that it was available that much, I'd get a migraine too!! Since I've only seen it maybe once or twice, it has retained enough of its... "charm?"... for me to considerate it worthy of this list...

Hey that is one of my favorite movies. Love the music, love Olivia and Gene Kelly is one of the greatest dancers of all time. First time I saw that movie it was 15 minutes long. Or at least it seemed like it. We thought it was a real short movie because it seemed like we just got there and it was over. It's great on a surround sound home theater.

I agree... Xanadu was a great movie. But, it was a dumb movie as well.
Olivia was great, as always...

OMG I loved those movies! I'm a huge Keving Smith fan!
And Basketball was stupid but hilarious. I love the part when they're in the locker room and they (supposedly) have HUGE johnsons that no one can avoid looking at!
Other dumb movies I love:
Goonies, (watched it for the first time in years last week)
Big Trouble in Little China
Hudson Hawk
Strange Brew

Chel, I am so glad someone else loves Strange Brew. Not many people I know liked it. My dad though it was a riot.

Alrighty, how about 'Bachelor Party' with Tom Hanks? COMEDY! I have laughed at that movie since I was a kid. It has to be one of my favorite movies.

Or 'Back To School' with Rodney Dangerfield? "Can I see you tonight?" "No, sorry, I have class" "That's fine, why don't you call me, when you have no class"- priceless.

And although some people think it's bad, I don't, but how about 'Tron'? Cool flick.

'Johnny Dangerously' with Micheal Keaton? Fargin' Bastidges!

'Airplane' -? "I've picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue"

I know I can come up with more...

-HECK!
