Courtney Love has been taken to hospital and treated for a reported drugs overdose.

The 39-year-old rock star and actress is understood to have taken the overdose less than an hour after being arrested for smashing windows at a friend's house.

Love, the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, had been booked on an allegation of being under the influence of a controlled substance and released on $2,500 bail.

She admitted breaking the glass in a bid to enter the house, Los Angeles police said.

Later Beverly Hills officers and paramedics responded to a call for help at a private residence said to be her home. Love, whose band Hole broke up last year, was found at her home.

"Officers were responding to a call for help that was received about 6.10am," a police spokesman said. "The woman was under the influence of a controlled substance and had overdosed."

She was taken to nearby Century City hospital for treatment.

No details have been released on what treatment Love received or how long she was at the hospital, but she checked out several hours later.

There has been no comment from Love or her manager on the alleged overdose.

Love has previously been taken to Century City Hospital in 1994 after police were called to a Beverly Hills hotel over fears of an overdose. On that occasion she was not charged and shortly afterwards entered a drug rehabilitation centre - but left when she learned that Cobain had committed suicide.

Love has also faced trouble in Britain. She was taken into police custody at Heathrow Airport in early 2002 after a fracas on a Virgin flight from LA. She allegedly attacked and shouted abuse at a Virgin stewardess during the 10-hour flight.

What pisses me off about celebrity crackheads like Jackass Love here, is that the government has not stepped in to take away her daughter! Someone convince me that Courtney Love is NOT the poster child of neglectul and unfit parents! She needs to be treated by the authorities the same way they would treat someone who ISN'T rich and famous.
She's nothing but a waste of human skin.

You are so right chelktty, I have always wondered that about poor Francis Bean, even when Kurt was alive, they can't have been good parents.

But then you can say the same for Michael Jackson's children, etc. Someone must be checking on these peoples chilkdren? Making sure that their nutball parents are treating them properly? If not, then it is a disgrace.

Actually Schmi, I have mentioned before that Michael Jackson's kids should be taken away too. He's also someone who shows total disregard for the well being of his children. Any normal John or Jane Doe that reflected the same behavior patterns without the same wealth and prestige, would be locked up for child neglect and endangerment.
Did anyone see that interview with M.J.? When he went to the zoo, got swarmed by fans and didn't even look to make sure his kids were safe?? How can anyone object a small child to that?

1) This thread isn't about Michael Jackson. He's got a forum. Let's not go off on a tangant about him. It's okay to use as a comparison though.
2) I agree with you about his children... but he's got bodyguards around him at all times.
3) Courtney Love is a drug addict. The law should step in and remove the child from the home UNTIL she get's her act together. They should put the child with a family member who will watch out for her, raise her following orders from the law, and not allowing Courtney to be with her unsupervised. This is something that happens with children and parents all around the US, but I guess if you're a star, you get special treatment, eh?

Never known for her modesty, Courney Love threw down when confronted by her mother-in-law at a custody hearing for Love's daughter, Frances.

Word of the catfight came straight from the horse's mouth.

Love told the New York Daily News that she and Kurt Cobain's mom, Wendy O'Connor, came to blows on Tuesday at Los Angeles' Juvenile Court.

"Wendy went nuts," Love said. "She shoved me, and I slapped her like a four-year-old, though I've never slapped a four-year-old."

According to Love, Connor responded by saying, "That's it. You're going down! Hundreds and thousands of people are coming for you now."

"She was just screaming," Love added. "I saw sheer hate. I think she realized that the paranoia power games were gonna stop."

Attempts to confirm the *****y brawl with Juvenile Court were unsuccessful. A call to Love's publicist was not returned.

Love and Connor allegedly had an amiable relationship after the 1994 death of Cobain. But family relations were strained on October 2 after Love was busted on drug charges--that's after cops caught her allegedly trying to break into a friend's home. After the bust, Love was reportedly taken to the hospital for an OD.

If Love is found guilty on her latest drug charge, she could face up to a year in the county jail, according to Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, which could leaver her 11-year-old daughter hanging.

Family Services didn't wait for a verdict. On October 10, officials collected Frances at school and placed her with grandma O'Connor.

Since then, Love's been to several hearings to determine if she's fit to look after Frances. At a hearing on Tuesday a judge ruled that the embattled singer must move out of her Bev Hills home to make way for Frances and her nanny, Love revealed in the Daily News interview.

Frances will be supervised by Love' stepfather, Frank Rodriguez, and an aunt, and the singer says she has been granted regular visits.

But O'Connor has reportedly cut down on Love's access. According to the celeb, who was packing her gear for a move to a nearby hotel yesterday, her mother-in-law won't let Frances get on the phone.

"They hang up when I call," said Love, adding that Frances had managed to slip her a note, which read: "I want to come back home."

Love is mulling a retaliatory move against her mother-in-law. She told the Daily News she may reveal entries from Cobain's journal, in which the Nirvana frontman wrote, "My parents were Nazis. My dad was a p---- and my mother was the whip. I want to shoot my mommy."

I just read an article in People about Courtney Love's battle to get her daughter back. It mentioned the fact that Frances Bean, her daughter, was present when Love overdosed. She told authorities who responded to the scene that she was "scared" for her mother, but also said "I know she'll be ok if she just gets her stomach pumped."
My niece is the same age as Frances Bean and she has no idea what stomach pumping is. Its a shame that this child has been exposed to an environment where this is everyday life to her. Its sad.

I read a similar article that said that Courtney Love tried to make a "game" out of her ovedose, she got Francis-Bean to make her tea and they sang songs together while they waited for the ambulance.

SHe seriously needs to have someon take her away from her mother, that is disgusting. If I was to do that, my kids would be taken away before i knew what was happening, but famous people get all this leniancy, it is a load of crap.

I know this isn't about Michael Jackson, but I want to say one thing: Chel, that doc about Michael Jackson, the part where he's at the zoo, the documentary maker's voice was dubbed over the video, he wasn't really worried about the kids, the kids were fine, but they had footage of a big crowd around Michael, and new no one would be the wiser... trust me on that one. But I'll give everyone the one where he dangles the baby out the window that's just dumb.

Oh, and by the way "and I slapped her like a four-year-old, though I've never slapped a four-year-old." how stupid is this woman?

COURTNEY LOVE CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION

Troubled rocker Courtney Love surrendered to police in Beverly Hills Tuesday -- to face drug possession charges stemming from her arrest earlier this month.
The former "Hole" frontwoman, 39, was charged with possession of prescription painkillers hydrocodone and oxycodone.

Prosecutors say Love, who lost custody of her 11-year-old daughter Frances Bean after her arrest, is expected to appear in court for an arraignment on the charges.

It is currently unknown if she will faces a custodial sentence if convicted -- but Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, says the singer could be eligible for a drug diversion program that would spare her from a prison sentence.

COURTNEY LOVE: I DON'T TAKE DRUGS

Troubled rocker Courtney Love denies she has a drug problem -- despite being charged with possession of narcotics last month.
The former Hole frontwoman admits to being a former heroin user, but insists "everybody does" prescription painkillers Hydrocodone and Oxycodone -- which she was arrested carrying.

Love, 39, says, "I want to make one thing clear right now. I do not take narcotics.

"I have taken prescription pills, and I went to rehab once. I take Xanax that is prescribed to me, but practically everybody does that nowadays. But I do not take street narcotics."

Prosecutors say Love, who lost custody of her 11-year-old daughter Frances Bean after her arrest, is expected to appear in court for an arraignment on the charges following her arrest in Los Angeles, after which she overdosed.

It is currently unknown if she will faces a custodial sentence if convicted -- but Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, says the singer could be eligible for a drug diversion program which would spare her from a prison sentence.

Yes of course, because if it is prescription medicine it makes it okay. How could I have overlooked that pertinent fact? Jeez.

Oh my God...it's ok and it's not "taking drugs" because "everybody does it"?? Sure they were prescription drugs but she's not taking them as prescibed by a doctor. I'm sure "Take two of these with a glass of alcohol for a really nice buzz, if the buzz wears off, take two more" is printed on the bottle from the pharmacy.
This woman truly resides in a world of her own dillusions.

LOVE PLEADS INNOCENT TO DRUG CHARGES

Singer and actress Courtney Love pleaded innocent Wednesday to two felony counts of drug possession, moments after ridiculing the charges in a rambling monologue to reporters that confused even her own attorney.

The complaint filed against Love said she was in illegal possession of prescription painkiller drugs when she was treated at a hospital for an Oct. 2 overdose. The two painkillers, hydrocodone and oxycodone, can be prescribed legally.

Love, the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, called the charges against her "retarded" and said her fans think she's on drugs because of the charges.

"Don't tell," said Love, whose past heroin use has been widely reported. "It's a big secret I used to do drugs."

I'm sad. And its not because i'm one of those emo kids or anything...its because Kurt took the easy way out and left Frances to deal with f-ed up Courtney. In the tradition of Anna Karenina and Madame Bovary, by leaving his child with Courtney, he left his child an orphan. It really makes me sad and sick to my stomach. I've always hated Courtney, but she is who she is and at least she's consistent. And this overdose thing is just one of those 'look at me things'. She doesn't want to kill herself she just wants attention. That's the bottomline. She's selfish. And so was Frances' dad. It makes me sick. But I'm not going to say poor Frances. For all I know she could be the next Amelia Earhart. No pity, just understanding.

COURTNEY'S LEGAL BEAGLE

COURTNEY LOVE brought her dog to court with her as she branded drug charges against her ``a pile of old c**p''.

The singer turned Hollywood actress pleaded not guilty to two charges of possessing drugs without a prescription at Beverly Hills superior court.

Flanked by her lawyer, the disheveled blonde caused a media scrum outside the court building when she arrived in a blacked out 4 X4 car on Wednesday.

The 39-year old widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain arrived with her beagle Molly, her lawyer and clutching a bunch of red roses. She said: ``I feel fine. I didn't break any law.''

COURTNEY LOVE CHECKS INTO DETOX

Troubled rocker Courtney Love has checked into a California detox center.

The star overdosed on prescription drugs shortly after being arrested and charged with drug possession in October, and her stay at a Malibu center is thought to be a bid to keep her out of prison when she returns to court next week.

Her lawyer Ron Fischetti told gossip columnist Cindy Adams, "She checked herself in voluntarily," over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Courtney is currently battling with her former mother-in-law to keep custody of Frances Bean, her 11-year-old daughter with late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain.

COURTNEY ESCAPES DETOX TO GO CLUBBING

Troubled star Courtney Love was spotted hitting the clubs of Los Angeles Thursday -- despite supposedly being in a detox center.

The rocker first went to club Tangiers in Los Feliz to see band the Hard Place, who some have compared to Love's late husband Kurt Cobain's band Nirvana.

However, the outspoken singer and actress was reportedly overheard saying, "So, this band sounds like Nirvana, huh? They wish!"

She then moved on to the nearby Derby club, and was invited up on stage by Let's Go Sailing singer Shana Levy -- who was delighted when Love took up her offer.

Levy reveals, "She said, 'I really need to get laid tonight, but I always have time for a chick band.'

"So we taught her a song of ours on the fly and she sang and played guitar with us. She'd be all, 'Just give me some chords,' and I gave her the wrong chords at first, and she was joking, 'If you don't get this right, I'm going to kick you out of this band!'

"She was really approachable, really nice, really considerate. We were totally surprised."

Love then made a dramatic exit, reportedly shouting to the driver of her white van, "You gotta get me back to [rehab]!"

Her lawyer Ron Fischetti had earlier that day told MTV News she was undergoing live-in detox care at a facility in Malibu.

Love is currently awaiting trial on drugs charges, after being arrested last October, and overdosing on prescription pills shortly afterward.

COURTNEY'S CHRISTMAS COMMOTION

Rocker Courtney Love startled fellow patients at her rehab center over Christmas -- by walking around naked.

The former Hole singer, 39, is currently residing at a Malibu, Calif., clinic in an attempt to fight her addiction to alcohol and painkillers.

Courtney left her room to have her hair and make-up done for a magazine shoot, and preceded to strut around in her birthday suit for three hours.

A clinic insider says, "She was totally naked and acting totally off the wall. Nobody knew where to look and she wasn't making a whole lot of sense."

Courtney has been staying at the center since November 21, following reports she overdosed in October.

Courtney has defended her bizarre behavior of recent months, saying, "I'm not on some downward spiral. I'm not on narcotics. I'm fine. I just want my daughter back."

COURTNEY LOVE SUED BY HER LAWYERS
Troubled rock widow Courtney Love has been slapped with a lawsuit -- by her own lawyers.
The former Hole frontwoman's lawyers claim she has failed to pay up in her highly publicized battle to leave her former label, Universal Music Group

In court papers obtained by the Smoking Gun Web site, law firm Cappello & McCann claims the 39-year-old widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain failed to pay $228,926 for work on her lawsuit against Universal, which was filed in 2001 and settled out of court in late 2002.

According to the complaint filed last month in California's Santa Barbara Superior Court, Love initially paid $50,000 to retain the legal services of Cappello & McCann, but ignored subsequent bills from the firm.

The lawsuit seeks to recoup the six-figure tab Love allegedly ran up between January 2001 and November 1, 2002, as well as 10 percent interest.

LOVE GETS TRIAL DATE

Troubled rocker Courtney Love will face trial on a misdemeanor drug charge on March 16, under the guidance of new lawyer Michael Rosenstein.

The singer, 39, arrived at the Los Angeles Superior Court Monday and told Judge Patricia Schnegg she had fired her previous attorney as "he wanted me to plead guilty to something I didn't do."

Now Love -- who has lost custody of daughter Frances Bean after being charged -- has pleaded innocent to that charge and two other felony counts of unlawful possession of prescription painkillers.

The trial relates to an incident on October 2 when she allegedly tried to break into ex-love Jim Barber's Los Angeles home under the influence of a controlled substance.

Although Love was due to be tried this week, Judge Schnegg reluctantly allowed the case to be delayed so Rosenstein can familiarize himself with the details of the case.

Love told reporters outside the courthouse she hired Rosenstein "because he's cute."

LOVE SLAPPED WITH EXTRA CHARGE

Rock wildwoman Courtney Love is facing yet another charge stemming from her October 2003 arrest -- this time for disorderly conduct.

The former Hole frontwoman is already charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and two counts of drug possession after officers discovered her outside the home of former lover Jim Barber last year.

According to the singer -- the widow of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain -- she was merely trying to gain access to the property, which she claims belongs to her.

Love has pleaded innocent to all charges and will appear in court again on April 5 to answer the charges.

LOVE TOLD OFF FOR COURT OUTBURST

Courtney Love was told off by a Los Angeles judge early Tuesday after failing to hand over prescription drug information to prosecutors in her drug possession case.

The rocker was back in a Beverly Hills court for a preliminary hearing on two felony drug possession counts.

The proceedings came to an abrupt halt when Love offered to hand over information to prosecutors in the courtroom after they complained to the judge that they had asked for information about her prescription but had not received it.

Love claimed to have prescriptions for the drugs and at then at another point seemed to fire and immediately rehire her lawyer.

The judge admonished Love for her outburst and instructed her to let her attorney offer the information properly.

The case has been continued until April 15.

FEARS GROW FOR LOVE'S MENTAL STATE

Courtney Love's erratic behaviour is concerning friends -- who fear she could take her own life as the 10th anniversary of husband Kurt Cobain's suicide looms.

Record bosses have reportedly ordered Love's handlers to monitor her behavior during the next two weeks in preparation for the anniversary on April 5.

Former Nirvana frontman Cobain shot himself in his Seattle, Wash., home in April 1994.

A music source says, "Love is desperately unhappy and out of control.

"She seems very depressed and this is a bad time for her.

"She might do something stupid -- like try to take her own life."

Only recently Love told how she is still struggling to cope with Cobain's death: "They say it takes two years to get over something like that. Then it gets better, you can move on.

"But then, eight years later, it all starts coming back, all over again."

COURTNEY LOVE KNOCKS REPORTS SHE'S ABOUT TO DIE

Courtney Love has slammed recent reports stating she only has one week left to live.

The former Hole frontwoman, who has faced a range of legal wrangles over recent months, is distraught with the way her private life has been depicted in the press, and she insists so much of it is outrageously incorrect.

She says, "I read in People magazine -- and this was a friend of mine who wrote this -- that I had week to live. I'm healthy as a horse, I'm gonna live to be 140. I'm not on drugs, which everybody knows that knows me. So now I'm 'crazy' and I have a week to live."

Love is also upset to learn a loving letter her 11-year-old daughter Frances Bean wrote to her will be published in the near future.

She adds, "It's coming out next week. Another 'friend' in the media. It's horrible. It's just about her and she didn't ask to be a famous person. She wants to be a famous horse woman, but other than that, that's it.

"He wrote about her and he doesn't have any children and I'm like, 'Why did you do this to me? Why did you talk about this c-- when it's not true?' 'Well, it shows that your daughter likes you.' Of course she likes me! She likes me more than anybody. She doesn't like anybody else."

Love admits she'd love the press to stay out of her relationship with her daughter, whose father is late Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain.

She says, "When a social worker comes to my doorstep for no reason, of course I'm gonna get furious and say, 'Oh yeah, the crack pipes are over by the steak knives,' and then they took it seriously."

Love trial set over drugs, vandalism charges

As Nirvana fans marked the 10 year anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death on Monday, the grunge rock legend's beleaguered widow, Courtney Love, was ordered by a California judge to appear in court to face drug and vandalism charges.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg ordered the former Hole singer to appear in court on April 16 for charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance when she was found in front of a Beverly Hills mansion on October 2, 2003.

The judge's decision came as fans ot the rock group Nirvana remembered the death of Cobain, who shot himself on April 5, 1994 in his Seattle, Washington, residence.

Love, 39, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as Hustler magazine owner Larry Flint's wife in The People vs Larry Flint, was not in court on Monday.

Love has pleaded innocent to charges of illegal possession of two powerful painkillers - hydrocodone and Oxychodone.

Prosecutors claim the pills were discovered after Love was taken to a hospital October 2 last year, for treatment of a reported overdose.

The alleged overdose took place just hours after police arrested her standing in her nightgown outside a home, reportedly belonging to a former boyfriend, where a suspected burglary was reported.

Love allegedly admitted to breaking the house's windows and police said they took her to a police station where they noted she was under the influence of drugs.

Love was later released on $US2,500 bail and the homeowner declined to prosecute.

The troubled singer, 39, was robbed by the fake "cleaner" who stole all of Love's money from her apartment.

The unpredictable star explains, "She sat in the lobby for five hours. Then she got in somehow and took all the cash in the house.

"It was only $600, but the b-- got away with a bunch of bank documents too."

The wife of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain heads to court on Friday to answer disorderly conduct and drug charges, stemming from an incident last October when she was arrested outside the home of an ex- boyfriend.

LOVE LOSES MILLIONS IN TRUST SWINDLE?

Rocker Courtney Love claims she's been swindled out of a $40 million fortune, meaning her daughter may not receive a cent of her inheritance from late Nirvana star father Kurt Cobain.

The singer, 39 -- who also faces debts of $4 million -- insists millions of dollars have been "stolen" from her and her 11-year-old daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

Love says, "$40 million has been stolen from me and Francis by a fiduciary institution.

"I found out that my dog walker was making $100,000.

"One person put a BMW on my credit card.

"My daughter's trust fund has been stolen from to the point where she may have, like, nothing.

"I can't let this happen to Frances."

Those close to Love confirm a "large sum is unaccounted for."

Love currently is facing two separate trials in Los Angeles -- one for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and being under the influence of a controlled substance, the other for two felony courts of unlawful drug possession.

LOVE PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

Troubled rocker Courtney Love pleaded not guilty to felony drug charges at an arraignment in Los Angeles on Friday.

Love -- dressed in a black trench coat -- was informed by Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Ekden Fox a trial date will be set at a hearing on June 4.

The former Hole star sat quietly in court and read a book before she was called before the judge to make her plea.

She is charged with two felony counts of possession of controlled substances, the painkillers hydrocodone and oxycodone. She faces up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted.

But Love's lawyer, Michael Rosenstein, believes the charges will be dropped because Love had prescriptions for the pills.

He says, "These are just prescription drugs, and we will be presenting evidence of prescriptions."

The charges stem from police officer Douglas Trerise's testimony last month, in which he claimed he and two other officers went to Love's Los Angeles home early on October 2 after she called the cops. He said Love handed the pills to one of them.

COURTNEY NEGOTIATES

Courtney Love's legal team is negotiating a deal to resolve drug charges stemming from an October arrest in Los Angeles.

Under the deal, charges against the 39-year-old would be dropped if Love completes a drug treatment program.

Jerry Baik, an assistant attorney with the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, says, "It's a great idea for her because she can probably benefit from the program, and if she completes it she won't have a conviction in the case."

If Love fails to complete the program, she'll be sentenced to 90 days in jail, according to the plea agreement.

Baik claims that, following her arrest, Love tested positive for several drugs, including cocaine.

Monday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg ordered the two sides of the case back on May 25 to cement the deal or start trial.

She snarled, "No more delays. This case has gone just way too long."

During a recent hearing, officers testified they arrested Love after she broke windows at her boyfriend's house, and she admitted she was on "Hillbilly Heroin" -- a euphemism for prescription painkiller oxycontin.

Love, the widow of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, also faces charges of illegal possession of prescription painkillers in a separate case in Beverly Hills.

Courtney Love Cracks

Stressed-out grunge rocker Courtney Love was in New York, Thursday, facing charges for allegedly hurling a microphone stand into a fan's skull at a concert. But before she went before the judge, Love gave us a rambling statement in which she tearfully claimed associates have conspired to steal millions from her and that her funds have disappeared.

"I feel really stupid," Love revealed. "And I'm really sorry to anybody that got hurt. My daughter's trust fund had $12 million stolen from it."

She went on to allege that former associates had a "bogus power of attorney" over her finances and stripped her of two thirds of her income. Love claims they created "accounts everywhere" to hide the embezzled funds.

The soon-to-be 40-year-old rocker said she's "humiliated" because she didn't control her own money and admitted, "it's my own fault." The distressed rocker then began to apologize to a number of people she says she's hurt, including Frances Bean, the daughter she had with Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain. A heartbroken Love acknowledges that she needs to "take responsibility" for her actions and says she's devastated over the situation she's created for herself and Frances.

"My daughter said to me the other day that she wanted to get rid of her horse because she didn't want it anymore," Love told us. "But I know it's because she knows we can't afford it."

Love also made a mysterious reference to Oscar-winner Russell Crowe, saying, "I'm sorry to Russell Crowe for you leaving me all those messages for the Golden Globes. I never got them, dude. It would have been a fun date."

Love insisted that she can corroborate all of her latest claims and she's asking the feds for help. "I want to thank the FBI in advance because I know they're going to help."

For now, the rocker remains defiant about the charges against her, but is remorseful for her actions. "Adultery is bad and maybe this is God's way of punishing me," she said. "I hope they send me to jail for 50 years."

LOVE PLEADS GUILTY

Courtney Love has pleaded guilty to charges of being under the influence of drugs as part of a plea bargain that could help her avoid jail.

The rocker agreed to enter a drug rehabilitation facility yesterday rather than face a lengthy trial and risk a spell in jail. Love will be sentenced on July 16.

Los Angeles Assistant District Attorney Jerry Baik says, "If she successfully completes the program she won't have to do the jail time.

"But during this period, if she does violate the terms of this program, she could serve up to the mandatory minimum of 90 days."

A second charge of disorderly conduct is likely to be dismissed, according to prosecutors.

The charges result from a police response to a breaking-and-entry incident last October at the home of Love's former boyfriend Jim Barber.

Love still faces felony drug possession charges in Beverly Hills Superior Court next week -- charges linked to a reported overdose last October.

And she's also fighting charges of assault in New York after allegedly hurling a microphone stand at a fan during a concert.

Meanwhile, despite Love's legal woes, the rocker will head off on tour on June 18 in Connecticut, in hopes of drumming up sales of her latest album, America's Sweetheart.

LOVE LANDS A MANGA CARTOON STRIP

Raucous rocker Courtney Love has been turned into a comic book character in a new Japanese Manga cartoon strip.

The troubled star approached Los Angeles' Tokyopop comic book company with a view to becoming a cartoon character and so impressed bosses with her knowledge of Manga art they decided to base a new character, Princess Ai, on her life.

Tokyopop boss Stuart Levy tells "Celebrity Justice," "There's a little bit of Courtney inside of everyone. That's the part that people relate to.

"She's so well read, she's so educated. She'll bring up references to the Middle Ages, to Victorian literature, to architecture."

In the first Princess Ai story, which will hit comic book stores in America in July, Love's cartoon alter-ego will fall for a rock star called Kent -- a link to her dead husband Kurt Cobain.

Levy insists the story of Princess Ai will be based on Love's real experiences in Tokyo when she was a teenage runaway.

He explains, "She actually ran away and went to Tokyo and was hired by the nightclub people to dance and sing."

Love says of her new cartoon character, "It's so awesome. She's half-angel, half-devil. She's a little problematic."

Courtney Love Newly Charged with Assault in L.A.
Wed Jun 9, 2004 02:59 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Singer-actress Courtney Love faces an assault charge stemming from an altercation with another woman at the home of her ex-boyfriend in April, prosecutors said on Wednesday, only two weeks after she pleaded guilty to a drug offense.
A judge last week issued an arrest warrant for Love on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and the performer is expected to surrender to Los Angeles police sometime next week, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

She is accused of assaulting a woman with a bottle and a metal flashlight on April 25 at the Los Angeles residence of onetime manager and boyfriend Jim Barber, the same home where Love was arrested last October by police who found her breaking windows in the middle of the night.

Robison said prosecutors plan to ask that Love's bail on the new charge, filed on June 2 in a criminal complaint, be set at $55,000. The charge carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

Love's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Love, 39, pleaded guilty on March 25 to being under the influence of cocaine at the time of her Oct. 2 arrest and agreed to enter drug treatment.

Under that plea deal, the former lead singer of the band Hole would be spared jail time and have the conviction removed from her record if she completes the treatment program.

Still pending against Love are separate drug possession charges in Beverly Hills.

She also has been charged with assault in connection with a New York City nightclub performance in which police said she threw a microphone stand into the audience, striking a man on the head. Hours before her arrest in Manhattan, Love bared her breasts during an appearance on the CBS "Late Show with David Letterman."

LOVE CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING WOMAN

Courtney Love has surrendered to police for allegedly assaulting a woman with a liquor bottle at the home of her former manager in Los Angeles.

The former Hole singer, 39, has been booked on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon on the 32-year-old woman -- after an incident at Jim Barber's home on April 25.

The widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has also been charged in three other cases -- including previously trying to break into Barber's home in October.

She is scheduled to appear in court on July 9 for arraignment.

Love was arraigned earlier this month in New York City on charges of assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly striking a fan with a microphone stand at a club in March.

LOVE SCRAPS TOUR

Courtney Love has scrapped her upcoming American tour, days before it was due to start in Connecticut.

The rocker, who is currently caught up in four legal disputes in New York and Los Angeles has cited her upcoming court appearances for the postponement.

A handful of dates on the 24-venue tour have been canceled, while others will be rescheduled for later on in the year.

Love is facing three pending trials and a promised stint in rehab as condition of a plea entered in a fourth matter.

The former Hole star surrendered to Los Angeles police on Friday and was booked on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon following an alleged incident with a 32-year-old woman.

Love is due in Manhattan criminal court, New York, on June 28 to face charges of third-degree-assault and second-degree reckless endangerment after she allegedly hit a fan with a microphone stand at a concert.

Courtney Love Discharged from N.Y. Hospital

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Troubled rocker Courtney Love was discharged on Monday from a Manhattan hospital where she spent the weekend, a person close to the performer told Reuters.
Love was admitted to Bellevue Hospital Center on Friday, her 40th birthday, hours after being declared a fugitive from justice for missing a court appearance in Los Angeles on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Her Los Angeles-based lawyer, Michael Rosenstein, told Reuters then that Love was hospitalized for treatment of an unspecified gynecological condition.

On Monday, the person close to Love, who spoke on condition of anonymity, declined to discuss her condition, the reason for her hospitalization or her whereabouts, saying only that she had been discharged from the hospital.

Photographs splashed across New York newspapers showed the singer, appearing distraught and dressed in a camisole, being carried on a stretcher in handcuffs from her Manhattan apartment by paramedics.

According to the New York Times, an ambulance was sent to Love's home when the city Fire Department received an emergency 911 call reporting a miscarriage, and Love told police separately that she had had an abortion on Thursday.

Police had been dispatched to her apartment house around noon on Friday after the building supervisor called to report that someone was tossing bottles from a window, but no arrests were made at that time, a police spokesman said.

The Times said Love had been bantering with bypassers as she sat on the ledge of her open third-floor window, and that a group of photographers on the street had serenaded her with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" until her mood turned somber.

The New York Post reported accounts of neighbors who said Love had spent the previous week roaming the streets of SoHo, asking strangers for cigarettes, peering suspiciously into parked cars and claiming she was being followed.

In Los Angeles Friday morning, a Superior Court commissioner issued a bench warrant for Love's arrest after she failed to appear for an arraignment. The assault charge stems from an altercation with another woman at the Los Angeles home of Love's ex-boyfriend and onetime manager in April.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Love was subject to arrest at any time, but a New York Police Department spokesman said Los Angeles police had not asked New York police to take her into custody.

In May, Love pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of being under the influence of cocaine, and she was scheduled to appear later this week for a sentencing hearing in that case.

Love, the widow of late rocker Kurt Cobain, faces separate drug possession charges in Beverly Hills and a reckless endangerment charge in New York City.

LOVE BACK IN THE HOSPITAL

Troubled rocker Courtney Love was admitted to a private New York hospital on Tuesday -- only a day after leaving Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital Center, where she was treated for a "gynecological medical condition."

The former Hole frontwoman entered Bellevue on her 40th birthday on Friday -- the same day a Los Angeles judge issued a warrant for the singer's arrest after she failed to appear for an arraignment on a felony charge of assaulting a woman with a dangerous weapon in April.

After Love was discharged from Bellevue on Monday, she checked into an unnamed medical center, according to her L.A.-based lawyer Michael Rosenstein.

On Tuesday, Love's civil attorney Robert Ring said during an unrelated Santa Monica, Calif. court hearing that a legal guardian had been appointed for the former Hole frontwoman and that she was in an East Coast "institution."

COURTNEY LOVE was sentenced to complete a drug treatment programme yesterday just days after getting out of hospital. The singer will have to spend 18 months in rehab after pleading guilty to being under the influence of a controlled substance last year. 'I have to stop drinking. That's funny,' Love said outside court yesterday. 'I think I can do it. We can all do it together. It's deep.'

Love's trial date set

Courtney Love shields her face from photographers following an arraignment at Beverly Hills Courthouse.

A trial date of September 30 has been set for Courtney Love, who faces two felony drug charges for illegal possession of painkillers.

Love, 40, remains free on her own recognisance.

The rock singer arrived in court today wearing a purple knit top over a black halter and black heels. She fidgeted in her chair during the 10-minute hearing before Superior Court Judge Elden S Fox.

When he asked whether the trial date was acceptable, Love initially replied, "I don't know." She agreed to the date after consulting with her lawyer and thanked the judge before leaving.

Love could face up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted on both charges of possessing oxycodone and hydrocodone.

She faces a separate assault felony charge for allegedly attacking a woman with a liquor bottle April 25 at her ex-boyfriend's home in Los Angeles. Her arraignment in that case is scheduled for Friday.

Last month, she was also sentenced to 18 months in a drug rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to being under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor charge connected to an alleged break-in at the same ex-boyfriend's home in the last northern autumn.

Police called to her home hours after that arrest allegedly found painkillers there, leading to the felony drug charges.

She also faces charges of assault and reckless endangerment in New York City for allegedly striking a fan with a microphone stand at a nightclub in March.

Love, the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, was formerly the lead singer of the band Hole. She had to delay a concert tour with her new band this year because of her legal problems.
