LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Australian screen siren Nicole Kidman has rediscovered love with rock star Lenny Kravitz nearly three years after her dramatic split from superstar Tom Cruise, it was reported.

The Oscar-winning actress and the leather-clad musician have "come clean" about their romance after months of rumours they were dating after Kidman become a tenant in his New York apartment, People magazine reported.

"They're very close," her spokesman Leslie Dart told the magazine in its edition that hits US newsstands on Friday. "He's very important to her. Beyond that, I don't know."

While Kidman has repeatedly denied a romance with the rocker, saying the pair were just good friends, speculation has mounted over a romantic relationship and even a possible engagement.

The pair have frequently been seen in public together since Kidman moved into Kravitz's apartment while here own new eight-million-dollar pad in New York's West Village undergoes renovations.

People quoted eyewitnesses as saying the pair were "flirtatious" and were "always touching each other" during a September 25 birthday bash for Kidman's best friend, fellow Australian actress Naomi Watts.

Kidman's Los Angeles' representatives declined to comment on the report, but denied rumours that the star and the US musician were engaged.

The stunning redhead has two children -- Isabella, 10, and Connor, 8 -- who she adopted with "Mission Impossible" star Cruise during their high-profile 10-year marriage that collapsed spectacularly in early 2001.

The 39-year-old Kravits, who was responsible for the hit song "Are You Gonna Go My Way", has a 14-year-old daughter with ex-wife Lisa Bonet, one of the stars of television's hit "The Cosby Show."

Kidman has been working non-stop since her high-profile 10-year marriage to screen heart-throb Tom Cruise collapsed two and half years ago and has emerged from her ex-husband's shadow as a major star in her own right.

In the past two years, Kidman has had a string of hit movies that culminated in her best actress Oscar win this year for "The Hours."

She played troubled British author Virginia Woolf in the film.

Her other films include 2001's "Moulin Rouge," 1997's "Eyes Wide Shut," and "To Die For" and "Days of Thunder" with Cruise.

Well you have to admit that it is a bit of an odd coupling. She is graceful and divine and gorgeous, he is grungy and messy and a bit odd. But i wish them all the best luck, Nicole deserves to find happines, just like everyone else.

What did happen to Lenny Kravitz, he was real big and then not real big all of a sudden, I had forgotton about him until i read this article in the paper.

Yes, they do seem to be complete polar opposites... but sometimes those are the best pairings in the world. It gives so much "flavor" to a relationship when you bring in different things, and open up another persons view in life, etc....

I, too, think that Nicole deserves some happiness after her marriage to Tom failed. He's happy... and she should be too. No one deserves to be alone.
