Baseball is not such a bog deal overe here but this has been mentioned. From what I understand he has been strongly linked to steroid abuse, now if thats true it is diesrespecting the game and those that came before him. A lot of fans that I saw interviewed on TV have little time for Bonds due to the steroid issue.

However if I have Bonds confused with somebody else and this guy is clean then well done to him because I believe that Aarons record stood for quite some time.

I'm sorry I was on " vacation"in Hawaii when this historic moment happened? I knew Barry Bonds passing Hall of Famer Hank Aaron 's homerun record would not get the respect its due.

lodgebo its strange how thorough your research is about pass subjects and now you want to claim or imply your confused about Barry Bonds. This should help your confusion:

A poll by ESPN/ ABC News found more than twice as many Black fans as Whites were pulling for Barry Bonds to break AAron's record( 74% to 28%).

More than three-forths of Whites-76% - think Barry used steroids, compared to only 37% of Black Americans.

The poll shows younger whites accept Bonds as the home run king and feel he desearves to be in the Hall of Fame.

" I have complete and utmost confidence that Barry is as clean as a whistle. I don't have any doubt in my mind. What he's done has sritictly been because he's very talented and is capable of doing it. I don't think there's antbody who can take that away from him." Hank Aaron

Well like I said Malcolm baseball is not a big deal anywhwre but the US and Japan in fact hardly anybody in Europe could tell you Bonds was or what he did ( the only Bonds we know are Connory, Lazenby, Dalton, Moore, Brosnan and Craig). I didn't want to make accusations regarding steroids and I did not have the time to do some reserach thats why I gave 2 points of view.

two things though in terms of world sport it's small fry and secondly the story below keeps repeating itself on many diffrent papers why is that?

Bonds used steroids because a book " Game Of Shadows" said he did. " Shadows" written by 2 white guys seeking to make money CLAIMS that Bonds use performance- enhancing drugs. No evidence was given other than hearsay that connects Bonds with steroids.

Like I said I don't know about Bond's but in terms of world sport he's a nobody, howevere I have seen lot's of websites that keep linking Bond's and steroids.

However Malcolm you have shown your hyocritical side again remember Lance Armstrong and what you said but when it's a black man he is innocent how does that work, hell it flies in the face of what the civil rights leaders wanted maybe you should think about that for a while.

There are websites linking your country with nuclear weapons. Does this make your country guilty of being a nuclear country?

I remember posting a FACT that Lance Armstrong admitted to using peformance enghancing drugs in his autobiography and he was ( and has ) not been held accoutable it. And maybe this could explain how a person coming off cancer could win 7 times against trained professional athletes.

We have covered this topic before and I have proved you wrong before it's obvious that on this topic you don't have the intellectual capacity to understand so I am not going over it for the 100th time.

Again we have been over this as well but for probably the 50th time he admitted to using the drugs to stay alive you will also remember he was cleared once and I think another time told he had no case to answer.

End of the day Bonds - big shot in the US. Armstrong Big shot all over the globe.

And for the 100th time I expose your lack of critical thinking, not being able to understand complex issues; cannot accept the other side of an issue; not able to see HYPOCISY in opinion; arrogance against those who disagree;you blindly accept facts without question

Hey pot, it's kettle!

I could care less about baseball truth be told. I never liked Bonds because he's a prick, always has been. He's as juiced as any other player in MLB, he's admitted to using ointments and creams that he didn't know were steroids, but lets forget that FACT as well.

And of course lets make a racial issue where there is none. Lets attack a cancer survivor! Oh, wait... he probably survived because the government allowed him special treatments for his cancer because of the color of his skin.

Malcolm, you are out of control man.

Bonds is good at baseball, sucks at being a human.

MLB sucks.

Nothing in that sport matters truely, because it's been so tainted with greed and cheating... I can't even begin to describe how much I loathe MLB.

Pete Rose... think about it before you respond.

And Malcom, remember a year or so back when you were upset because the baseball video game didn't have Bonds in it? You said you threw it away? Bonds isn't in those games because he chooses not to be. He's a jerk and a proven cheater. I don't need the words to come out of his mouth. Look at his giant cheating head.

Fact of the matter is, until it's been proven he used steroids (and I don't mean "look at the all the stuff these guys said!" proof, I mean I want a full-on investigation by the MLB), he's the king of homeruns. Did he use steroids? Probably. Does that mean we can condemn him? Not until he owns up to it.

That's the thing, he'll never admit it. And I don't need to see him shoot up in person. The writing is on the wall.

There is more proof that he's done it than not. As a matter of fact, the only proof he hasn't done it is his feeble attempts to side step the question.

Hm, fair enough. I'd still like to see an MLB investigation, but doing so might be bad for them.

I'd like to see the MLB investigate as well, but I don't think they really want to completely take the lid of this Pandora's Box. This guy has the most coveted record in all of sports. To officially brand him a cheater would be terrible. I think the MLB is happy with the veil of suspicion and nothing more.

post #17  quote:

From BBC.co.uk:

A US federal grand jury has charged baseball record breaker Barry Bonds with perjury and obstruction of justice over an inquiry into steroids use.
The jury was investigating testimony by the San Francisco star in 2003, in which he said he had never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs.

Mr Bonds, 43, became the all-time home run record holder in August, when he beat Hank Aaron's total of 755 runs.

But his feat has been overshadowed by accusations that he used steroids.

The federal jury indictment released on Thursday stated: "During the criminal investigation, evidence was obtained including positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing substances for Bonds and other athletes."

Mr Bonds faces four counts of perjury and one of obstructing justice, which together carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in jail.

His lawyer, John Burris, when informed about the charges, said: "I'm surprised, but there's been an effort to get Barry for a long time. I'm curious what evidence they have now they didn't have before."

The left-hander has never tested positive for drug use and has repeatedly denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.

A spokesman for the White House reacted promptly to news of the charges.

"The president is very disappointed to hear this," he said.

"Clearly this is a sad day for baseball."

Mr Bonds was questioned in 2003 as part of the government investigation into the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (Balco), which has been blamed for supplying performance-enhancing drugs to a number of high-profile athletes, including Olympic gold-medal winner Marion Jones.

The Major League Baseball star has been dogged by rumours since he bulked up noticeably and his home run tally took off after he turned 35.

He moved past the legendary Babe Ruth into second place in May of last year with his 715th career home run, and passed Hank Aaron in August.

He finished the season on 762 home runs.

The slugger announced in September that he would leave the San Francisco Giants at the end of the season after the club decided not to renew his contract.

However, the 43-year-old Mr Bonds said that he had no intention of retiring from the game.
