One year from today, July 13th, fans across the United States and United Kingdom will be cued up and dressed in their Potter robes in anticipation of the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!
The next 365 days will be, without a doubt, one of the busiest times for the Potter fandom. Between the pending seventh book and the fifth film, news will run rampant across the globe.

Do you know how many authors there are that write Star Wars novels? They don't own the rights. The publishing firm pays Lucasfilm to use (not own) the Star Wars name, characters, etc. and Lucas gets a large paycheck. Of course Lucas or his people have to approve each story.
Now, don't tell me Rowling wouldn't go down a similar path... judging by all the merchandise, she obviously isn't shy on cashing in on her creation.
I see, so no other authors expanding on her universe then. Well, in a way by letting directors put her creation on the big screen she has already let some creative license go. I admire her decision as a writer. But the fans would eat up some offshoot HP stories. After a few years, who knows, she may want a 8th house made of gold and will decide to rent out the HP name to a few authors.
Fan fic is so rampant, it's hard to comprehend it all.
Yeah, I was kinda kidding about the money. Even though I am not the biggest HP fan, a part of me wants to see other authors continue the story. The main reason being that the HP series has helped millions of children rediscover books in an era of video games and Internet. That is huge. The writer in me respects her decision exponentially.
Yeah... HP has really made people WANT to read, and learn to open their minds to imagine all sorts of things. There are a lot of other teen fiction books out there, like that. I have several. They are for more than teens, actually.
We shall see what happens. I don't want HP to end.

You know if I were JKR I would continue stories about Hogwarts because so many kids have gotten into reading because of her books. I would go back and tell the story about Albus Dumbledore's life.
