I'm afriad that, being British, I know very little about General George Washington. American history is not taught in British schools and cirtainly not much of the revolution.
However Washington was a renowned military leader who is recognised as such. He was also the head polition of his country. And what do I know about him?
I know he was a good military tacticion, he was the first President of America, he had wooden teeth and some damned business about a cherry tree.
Washington is all but forgotten in British history. But we remember clearly the great heros of our past. Budicca, Richard the Lionhearted, Sir Walter Raliegh, Admiral Lord Nelson and of course Sir Arthur Wellesley The duke of Wellington to name a few.
I know much more about the Iron Duke than I know about Washington.
I know that Wellington was the second son of the Earl of Mornington, born in Dublin, he was taugth in a french military school, he defeated the Tippoo Sultan at Seringapatam, He took Gawilgur, he fought the Danish and took their fleet, he was comander in chief of the Portugeese-English-Spanish forces when the French were forced out of Spain, he defeated Napolean at Waterloo and he was Prime Minister, Irish secretary, English representative to King Louie of France and was some kind of minister in India.
Since I do not know Washington well I cannot make a fare evaluation of the two. So my question for you is who was the best man out of the two? Who would have won had they fought against each other?
